Chapter 2 - Surviving The Turbulence

*Screech!*

A loud scream of several monsters filled the dark night. As the screech echoed throughout the forest, a boy ran across the tall and intimidating trees, leaving the sound of the crunching of dried leaves with his every step. His breath was ragged from all the running, trying to escape from the monsters behind him.

The humanoid monsters had climbed the trees and were jumping from one branch to another, gradually closing the distance.

The boy eventually exhausted all his stamina and couldn't run anymore. Stopping at a rather less dense part of the forest, the boy with horror in his eyes looked above to see where the monsters were.

He had no weapon in his hand, completely vulnerable to the monsters lurking in the darkness. Being aware of this fact, the monsters slowly showed themselves, appearing behind the trees. The boy couldn't move his body out of fear. The monsters had a humanoid figure but other than that, they were nowhere close to a human.

Their skin was grey. They had abnormally long limbs with blood-red nails that were as sharp as a knife. Their most disturbing feature was, however, their face. Their eyes were all white without a pupil, they had no nose. Their razor-sharp teeth came out of their bloody mouth.

The boy tried to focus on the ghoul-like monsters. However the voice in his head telling him to go to a camp called "Camp Twilight" over and over again didn't help him in that regard. He had started to hear that voice not that long ago.

Since two days ago, he was repeatedly exposed to the same sentence: Go to the Camp Twilight. The voice didn't say where it was but surprisingly he knew exactly where it was: Far east of Long Island, Montauk.

At first, he thought he was going insane but in the end, he gave up and followed the voice in his head. But as he was on his way to the camp on a bus, these monsters started to chase him. Without a choice, he entered the forest and let his senses navigate through the forest. He should have been close to the camp, maybe a 30-minute run at most. But his legs refused to move from the fatigue. He was running for 2 hours by now.

As the monsters slowly approached him, he also tried to back away step by step, readying himself to escape. However, to his surprise, one of the monsters suddenly jumped on him. The boy didn't have enough time to react and the red nails dug deep into his chest.

At that instant the boy felt all the air leaving his lungs as he gasped, followed by a loud scream of agony.

"Aaargh!"

The pain left the boy shocked, unable to move he watched the horrendous monster slowly kill him. The boy fell to the ground as the monster pulled its nails out of the boy's chest. The fear of death and many other emotions rushed into the boy's mind while he laid flat on the ground. His crimson blood had already hydrated the soil under him.

Under the immense emotional state of mind, he gazed upon the monsters with hatred who were making noises similar to laughing. This scene drove the boy crazy and he lost control of his emotions. He started to mumble which soon turned into shouting with a frustrated tone.

"Why..? Why..? What the hell is happening?! First some weird noises in my head and now supernatural monsters?! Why the fuck am I even dying for?!"

He hit the soil with all the strength he got. As his punch connected with the ground, the ground started to tremble. From inside the soil, came forth a skeleton with a black sword. Seeing this unfolding in front of them the ghoul-like monsters became alerted but it was too late for them.

The skeleton with great speed dashed towards the monsters, killing each of them under a minute. After completing the mission given to it, the skeleton turned into dust and became one with soil again.

Seeing how things turned out, the boy didn't even try to make sense of it. From all the blood he lost, his senses were getting weaker. His vision was blurring.

"Fuck! I can't... I can't... die... here..."

The life in the boy's eyes vanished as his hand fell to the ground with a thud.

The forest and the night fell into complete silence. After a while, however, the silence was abruptly broken by the sound of an enormous earthquake. The ground shook violently as if the god itself was in a rage deep under the ground.

The earthquake continued for a while and suddenly ceased. As the world stopped shaking, the once-dead boy opened his crimson-red eyes. The rain had started and made his pitch-black hair wet.

***

As soon as I opened my eyes, a dark sky greeted me. A metallic taste filled my mouth and the smell of blood lingered around my nose. I also felt a painful stinging sensation around my chest area. I was currently inside a dense forest without a single living being in sight. I struggled to move my body even a little so I gave up and just stared at the sky.

Although I should have been dead by now because of the bus crash, the cold, the smell, and the sensation I was feeling made me sure I was alive.

Connecting all the points, I constructed a logical scenario. What probably happened was the bus fell off the cliff, ending up in a remote forest area under the cliff. Because of the impact of the crash, many had died, stenching the area with the smell of blood. But unfortunately, I survived with a wound on my chest.

I felt relatively calm right now as it wasn't the first time I witnessed such a scene. After recovering some of my strength, I straightened up and examined my environment. However, as soon as I saw corpses of grey bodies that didn't even resemble humans at all, my mind blanked.

What I envisioned to be the scenario I was in crumbled as I saw creatures that didn't belong to my world.

"Where am- Aargh!"

I involuntarily held my head between my hands and applied pressure to subdue the pain. But my effort was in vain. As the pain began disappearing, a voice appeared in my head.

'Go to the Camp Twilight, Go to the Camp Twilight, Go to the Camp Twilight..."

Information about the location of the camp was somehow installed in my brain as I realized it wasn't that far away.

There was definitely something unnatural about the situation I was in. The bus was nowhere to be seen. And the trees weren't familiar, indicating this was a different forest. I had no idea where I was.

Thus I decided to listen to the voice in my head. I couldn't really resist the command anyway. So I started to walk in a certain direction.

Although this made me very uneasy, I knew I had to stay calm. Five deep little holes in my chest were getting more and more painful as time passed. It was as if five fingers had penetrated my chest. This wound was screaming to me that If I stayed here any longer, my fate would be like those grey humanoid figures.

I walked through the thick trees. My every step echoed in the vast forest and my panting resonated through the forest. I was feeling very exhausted and the low blood pressure due to bleeding was taking a toll on me. Yet I knew I was very close to my destination.

Just then I came across a wooden sign.

-CAMP TWILIGHT-

"Now that I look at it. This sign and the camp seem strangely familiar yet unfamiliar at the same time."

I passed by the sign and walked forward. I walked for a minute or two but there was nothing in sight. Just when I was losing hope I noticed semi-transparent blue and white threads, constructing a thin wall.

The voices in my head were as loud as ever as if telling me that I was very close to my target. Without hesitation I stepped forward, passing through the thin wall of threads. As soon as I passed through the strength in my body left and I slowly fell to the ground.

As I was falling, I caught a glimpse of my surroundings. There was a camp that wasn't there a moment ago. I heard some voices approaching me from the camp but I lost consciousness and my vision submerged into darkness once again.
