Chapter 4 - Camp Twilight (2)

I left the infirmary after I rested for a while and began wandering around the camp. It was a strange feeling seeing the fiction become reality. As I strolled through camp paths, I searched for answers to certain questions in my head.

"How come I didn't receive any help while coming here? I literally arrived here with five holes in my chest."

*Sigh...*

As I remembered the grey corpses I saw when I first awakened inside this body, I realized they were probably ghouls. What unsettled me the most was the fact that there were at least 10 ghoul corpses.

"There is no way a demigod can defeat so many ghouls considering he just awakened and yet to know anything about combat or controlling his powers."

But it was obvious that he was responsible for that massacre since there wasn't anything living in the vicinity of the incident.

"How did I even transmigrate to this world anyway? And who am I?"

There were so many uncertainties as to how I came to this world. Despite the sea of uncertainties, I was only sure about one thing: The boy had died, probably killed by the ghouls, before I inhabited his body.

Only one soul at a time can inhabit a body.

That was the rule set by the god of the underworld, Hades, who had authority over human souls. Therefore, for me to take possession of this body, it must have been empty in the first place.

On the other hand, there was no character in the novel that matched my looks: black hair with red eyes. Regardless of how much I rummaged through my memory, I couldn't remember anyone with this description. I wasn't mentioned in the novel and I had no memories of this body's past.

My thoughts once again drifted to another topic.

"I wonder if anyone survived that fall?"

As the last moments of my death flashed across my eyes, I was certain I died from that crash. Although I felt bitterness due to the experience, I didn't necessarily feel sad. I didn't have anything to lose in that world anyway. So there was no reason to be upset.

As I was lost in my thoughts, I stumbled across an open ground filled with dummies. There was an open weaponry on the side with various weapons. There were also some teens training and talking to each other from time to time.

I glanced around. They were all around my age. There was an age gap of at most 2 or 3 years between the teens. As I watched them train, yielding inhumane strength and agility I realized why this was the case. Those who could use divine energy had access to a personal window called the 'Status window'.

The status window showed personal information as well as the stats and abilities of a being. In the case of demigods, they can only activate their status window once they come to Camp Twilight. That was because for the status window to be activated, the godparent of the demigod would have to grant his/her child permission to activate it and claim the demigod as his/her child. Gods get into contact with demigods through the campfire in the middle. The campfire was built by the goddess of the home, Hestia, and is directly connected to Olympus.

Every night the campfire is lit and the entire camp comes together to eat lunch around the campfire. And if there are newcomers, the godparents of the new demigods give them access to the status window. This night, I was probably going to be claimed by my godparents as well.

'There is also the problem of a human parent as well.'

Well, I can't do anything about it right now. So I will just deal with it when the time comes.

I sat on a wooden bank and looked at the people training again but with more focus. I was trying to find out if the MC was currently in the Camp. If I could confirm the presence of the MC in the Camp I would be able to somehow estimate at what point is the story right now.

"Let's see... Not you... Not you... Definitely not you..."

I eliminated them one by one until only one was left.

"Not you eith-"

My eyes stayed on the last person for a while as I tried to put my finger on who she was. Compared to others, she had a completely different aura around her. This alone made me suspect her.

She was wielding a sword relentlessly, destroying the training dummy made out of straw. As her body and sword perfectly aligned with each other, she seemed like she was dancing. Her long black hair was made into a high bun that had already become a mess during her training session. Her soft and tan skin had a glow of its own. She was around 170cm and had a slim but lean figure.

It was obvious that her appearance was nothing short of charming as most of the boys as well as girls were taking a glimpse in her way once in a while.

'Eleanor Aiken'

I realized the girl was one of the members of the main cast. Though she wasn't the female lead, she was still a very dominant character in the story. In fact, she was the daughter of Poseidon, one of the Big Three. Her eyes which held both a bluish and a greenish color resembled the ocean, her father's domain.

"It's amazing. Even though she came just yesterday, her fighting skills are extraordinarily great for a newcomer."

"I guess carrying the blood of one of the Big Three really is a different level."

"I heard she was able to kill a cyclope before coming to the camp."

"Oh really!"

As the murmurs of the people around became louder and louder, Eleanor left the site without looking back.

As I looked at her leaving, something clicked in my mind.

The beginning of the novel was just before the main character turned 16. As the voices told him to go to the camp, he said one last goodbye to his mother and navigated his way to Camp Twilight. Along the way he also came across another demigod, the female lead, who was also trying to get to the camp.

Finally, after a couple of days, he arrived at the camp. However, before he and the female lead could get across the barrier, a minotaur attacked them. Although they were accompanied by other demigods, the power of the minotaur was beyond expected. If not for the main character's op abilities, most of them would have died.

"Hmm..."

If she came yesterday, that means the main character and the female lead should arrive at the camp today evening. The man in the infirmary also said two demigods would arrive at the camp around evening.

I looked at the sky, the sun was setting down: It was already evening.

*Roar!*

*Aaaah!*

*Argh!*

The screams of people following the battle roar of a large beast echoed throughout the camp, alerting everyone. I snapped my head towards where the battle sounds were coming.

A silhouette of a giant appeared among the trees. It was around 5 meters. It had a head and a tail of a bull, but a body of a man. Two curved horns emerged from both sides of his head.

Most of the demigods in the training ground snatched a weapon and ran to help their comrades. There wasn't any hesitation in their decision, showing that most of the demigods were already used to confronting these monsters.

I also stood up from my seat and walked towards the intimidating silhouette. I wanted to confirm that the main character will kill the minotaur as he did in the novel. To be honest, I also was eager to observe the battle between them and catch on one or two things.

After all, the thought of becoming strong didn't really bother me, instead, it made me feel something I had forgotten the existence of it. I felt enthusiastic.

"Getting a grasp on a little bit of power wouldn't hurt anybody, right? You don't always get to find yourself in a fantasy setting anyway."

A grin slowly crept upon my face before I knew it. After all the years, it was the first time my mimics moved this way. But it didn't feel bad either. The emptiness in my heart was still there. Though I was not sure if the power ever could fill it, I still decided that I would try.
