Chapter 7 - Camp Twilight (3)

"I am Eleanor Aiken. What is your name?"

"I don't remember."

Hearing my absurd answer, she frowned.

"What do you mean? Did you forget your own name?"

"You can say so..."

Her face darkened. She must be thinking things like "Is this guy serious?". Well I can't blame her, what kind of stupid would forget his own name?

"Well, I was severely injured when I arrived at camp. So my memory must be a little defective."

"I see..."

Her expression was telling me she still didn't believe me but I couldn't care less.

"Anyway, I will go to the cafeteria. See you at the campfire."

I waved at her and left as quickly as possible. My stomach was hurting from hunger.

As I ate my sandwich, I thought about this body's origin. Where did he come from. Where is his family or did he even have one?

As I surfed through my thoughts, I found my self in dilemma. It was an essential question I had to answer sooner or later.

'How should I approach the plot?'

I could either choose to intervene or let it play out as it is destined to do. Well I had already intervened during the minotaur fight. Though I doubted it would have any effect on the storyline as I had acted only towards the end of the battle.

I planned to get stronger and not shy away from taking advantage of the plot. But I also needed to preserve the real storyline so that my knowledge about the future wouldn't expire.

The best option seemed to move in the shadows and make sure the storyline isn't altered. I won't necessarily steal from the main character to make sure he will be powerful enough to save the world. But that doesn't mean I won't exploit my knowledge from the novel. In fact, I will use my knowledge to the fullest.

I also wan't planning to stay away from the main cast. It wouldn't be good for me to stay away from the main cast and miss all the opportunities to get stronger.

'I am glad I chose to help Eleanor to fend off the minotaur.'

I finished my sandwich, which was made of ingredients that was full of divine energy. It was quite tasty to be honest.

I noticed that many demigods were heading towards the campfire as the moon had risen above the sky and it was time to light the giant campfire. I also headed there.

'Time to learn who my god parent is...'

***

The laughter and chatter of people around the campfire mixed with crackling of the flame. Many demigods were scattered around the campfire, creating a peaceful atmosphere. Though the current talking topic was nothing but peaceful. Everyone was speaking about another child of the Big Three.

They were impatiently waiting for the revelation of Adriel's god parent. It was hard to believe that there was currently two people whose god parents were Zeus and Poseidon. Something like this had never happened before. As a matter of fact, till now, there was only a few occasions of a child of the Big Three to be present in the camp. And it was the first time two of them were present at the same time.

Chiron, the director of the camp, slowly made his way towards the podium as the time of revelation had come.

"Attention Everyone! Tonight we have three new demigods joining our camp. I hope all of you will take care of them and make them comfortable in their new home."

The crowd clapped and the speech went on.

"I know you all are looking forward to today's revelation of a specific person. So I won't drag this speech too long. Adriel can you please step forward?"

Everyone cheered as Adriel approached Chiron. I was surprised he was able to heal from that fight this quick. He looked as healthy as ever.

"Adriel. You need to make an offering to your god parent by burning some food on this divine campfire. Your god parent will answer your offerings and will claim you to be his or her child."

Nodding, Adriel took a big grilled rib and walked towards the campfire. Everyone was holding his breath and had all their focus on the white-haired boy in front of them.

Taking a long breath, he threw the rib into the fire. Just as he threw it, the flames became vibrant and fluctuated violently.

Nothing seemed to happen and everyone had started to lose their hope. Adriel too fell into doubt as nothing happened.

As we approached to the five minute mark, the clear sky above began covered in thick clouds. The consecutive sounds of thunder filled the ears of the demigods. Suddenly a lighting fell down from the heavens and hit Adriel. Everyone gasped as they assumed Adriel was hurt. However, as the dust settled, Adriel was still standing all too well.

After a moment of silence, Chiron spoke.

"Welcome to Camp Twilight, Son of Zeus, Adriel Quill!"

Following this, a cheerful crowd of demigods started shouting with excitement. This lasted for a while until Adriel sat down.

As I gazed at him, I could see his face both filled with excitement and bitterness. Although feeling excited was justified, the bitterness was questionable.

'He must be feeling heart-broken after living all his life knowing nothing about his father then suddenly finding himself here to learn that his father is Zeus.'

Even if Zeus was a god, leaving Adriel and his mother alone left a bitter taste in his mouth. He was disappointed in his father and felt a little resentment and bitterness towards him for making his family go through such hardships.

Following Adriel, Amelia too was called to make an offer for her god parent. Her god parent responded much quickly. Just after she threw the offer into the campfire a silhouette of an owl came into reality above her head. It glided gently and landed on Amelia's head. Chiron once again spoke.

"Welcome to Camp Twilight, Daughter of Athena, Amelia Elway!"

Although not as loud as when Adriel's god parent was revealed, the demigods cheered for her as well. She quickly went back to her seat next to Adriel. Her face was reddened indicating she was shy.

"Now tonight's last revelation, I invite..."

As Chiron stopped half-way, he realized he hadn't asked for the other kid's name. The demigods chuckled as their director fumbled with his speech. I face palmed to the ridiculousness of the situation.

'Even if he had asked he wouldn't get an answer anyway...'

Without waiting anymore I stood up and made my way to the podium. As the Chiron was handing me the offering, he whispered.

"Sorry kid, I somehow forgot to ask your name."

"Don't worry about it."

I approached the campfire. The flames didn't burn me, instead, it was warm and comfy. Without much though I threw the offering and watched it melt away.

I wasn't expecting much from the revelation. I didn't think I would be a child of an important god. I waited until there was nothing left of the offering then turned to Chiron.

As we waited for a god to claim me, Chiron's eyes showed signs of anxiety. We had already passed the 10 minute mark.

The long wait made me think about the unfortunate demigods who weren't claimed. Tough it was very rare, sometimes the god parent wouldn't claim his or her child. Those who were not claimed would be fated to fail in this cruel.

There wasn't the possibility of me not being a demigod since I could enter the camp and used divine energy.

As time passed, the crowd started to lose interest as they thought I wasn't going to be claimed. Chiron too had doubt plastered on his face as nothing happened. Not even a slight flicker of flames had occured.

"Director! Let's move on. Seems like he is not going to be claimed. He can offer next night again."

"Yeah! Come on!"

"I want to sleep already!"

*Sigh...*

I sighed out of annoyance as well as disappointment. My enthusiasm about getting stronger was crushed by the cruel reality as I realized I wasn't going to be claimed. Without getting claimed by a god and accessing the status window, I had no chance of growing stronger.

Seeing my disappointed expression, Chiron patted my should to cheer me up.

"Don't worry. I am sure you god parent will answer your call tomorrow night."

Without looking back I started walking back to my seat. I could see some people pitying me and some other snickering.

However, after a few steps, I realized the whole camp site had fallen silence. I glanced around only to see shocked faces like they had just seen a terrifying thing. I snapped back to see what was going on. What met my sight was a horrifying scene that would send shivers down one's spine. Even Chiron was taken aback by it.
