Who am I?
Ah, yes.. I remember now. I am finally free. It's finally time for me to take my rightful place.
I know who I am.
Ramuna slowly opened her eyes. This time she saw the ceiling of her room in the pub. It worked. It worked all too well. How long had she been asleep?
"Precisely a hundred and thirty-five days."
The voice sounded drained. Almost faded but it was most definitely Ramesses.
Ramuna turned her head, still laying down too exhausted to sit up. A hundred and thirty-five days and she felt like it was just yesterday she split her head open. Ramesses had put a small hammock in the corner of the room where he was now laying in. A wet cloth was over his head and one of his feet was planted on the ground and he was using it to slowly rock himself back and forth slowly. He must have stayed in here keeping an eye on her since her return.
Something was horribly off about him. Remesses looked like he had half his life force taken away. Yet his eyes still sparked when she met his gaze.
"Why do you look so pathetic?" Ramuna asked rather curiously.
Ramesses laughed quietly but did not answer. Instead he took the cloth off his head and got up to walk towards her.
Ramuna watched his every move as he sat down next to her and looked down on her. Did he know? Did he know who she was? How long could she keep it hidden if he did not?
What was worse? She still could not read him. Ramuna could tell he held two other souls within his own. Their memories had consumed him and he was already lost to who he truly was but what was worse was that he was so far gone that even Ramuna couldn't dive into his subconscious to find out who he was that he had already lost to himself.
How could she help him if all she could see was-
How? How is he the one in control but he is not even the original host of the body!?
Ramuna had her thoughts closed in so he could not read her. She was appalled. The man she had met several months ago wasn't even the man that belonged to the body before her. It was almost as if this person she got to know took over completely when he became host and yet this person wasn't even the damned prince!
Did Ramesses… No, maybe this man was never Ramesses. Whoever this was.. Was this another god? A disciple with the god Ra's leftover powers and whoever it was she was talking to?
What god?
Out of all the answers she had been trying to seek. All the knowledge she had been trying to absorb this past few months; Ramesses had been the greatest mystery of them all. It said a lot. He had to know who he was!
All he does is constantly lie or say little half-truths! What the hell is this man's agenda!?
The longer Ramuna stared into his golden eyes the more she understood that whoever was before knew exactly who he was and what he was doing. He would never confess that though. So she would have to play his game. If he would not reveal himself nor would she.
She would play the role he had given her matter of fact. He did say supposedly that once the wife of Set was freed from her body that she would go back to whomever she was. A good role to play was pretending to be a nobody. A nobody who just happened to learn Heka while trying to figure out who she was.
"How are you feeling?" Ramesses asked quietly. As if someone else was in the room that could overhear them.
"Feels like it was just yesterday that I decided to free myself."
"Free yourself? That's what you want to call this? You ended your own life. Now you are just another citizen of this realm, Ramuna! Not just that the woman you freed-"
"-Was actually Ammut," Ramuna finished, cutting him off. "I am aware of that the moment I did what I did. Doesn't it shock you that Set's wife had been her? Makes you wonder if he is even Set, don't you think?"
Another spark lit up in his eyes.
Good.
It meant he had doubts too. Ramuna was learning the only way to get honest answers out of Ramesses was to watch his reactions. This whole situation was fabricated through a lot of lies, not just Ramesses himself.
"Are you okay? Do you remember who you are?" Ramesses asked almost breathlessly. More reactions that were giving her answers. Ramesses was full of hope? Hope for her possible answer. Why?
Who was he looking for? This man once wanted her dead. Countless times. Hated her for her actions and wanted her to fix things that were considered impossible to fix. Yet, here he was with a look in his eyes that were full of impatience and hope.
Ramuna did not even know if the answer he was looking for was her truth. She still had to lie. Keep the winning hand she had to herself. She could not expose who she truly was until they got back to the time Tafari and her had planned out.
"As Tafari planned out through my countless fake rebirths since 1924 he just found me as a woman named Ramuna. I am from ancient Egypt but I am nothing more than a thief who tried stealing the book of Thoth from the field in the midst of the massacre and just got caught up in the mix. I used one of the hex's in the book to escape and got possessed by Ammut in the mess of it all. I remember it all now. I have always been a woman named Ramuna.
I never truly lost myself. I have always seeked answers in science. In ancient egypt though where I was born science was not enough at the time and I tried to steal the book of Thoth for more answers. It's why chemistry comes so naturally to me and even learning Heka."
Ramuna studied Ramesses's facially expressions throughout her explanation. The hope had died out of his eyes and he looked almost hollow. He had been quiet throughout her explanation. Not interrupting once nor bothering to answer questions.
Whatever friendship or connection they had she knew she had completely severed it with her story.
Ramesses got up from the bed and walked to the door not saying a word. Before leaving he stopped his back still towards her.
"Well Ramuna at least now you know you've always been the woman you say you are. Except one thing. You are not a New Worlder clearly if you were born in ancient Egypt. Hope you are satisfied with destroying your own people. Hope you can live with yourself. It seems like you never had a care for anyone else but yourself though."
With that he left.
Ramuna did not bother to try and stop him. It was rough hearing the pain in his voice. Regardless, he was right about one thing. She refused to care for him. Ramuna had a job to do. She had to reverse everything and go back to ancient Egypt. And now.. One of her top priorities was finding Set.
Whoever Seth Phisler was, he was not Set. He was very much a fraud. If Ramesses thought he was a good liar, Seth Phisler was ahead by many steps.
Ramuna closed her eyes planning out all her next steps. First was to talk to Tafari and make sure he started joining Ramesses on fighting Apep every night. If Ramuna were to go and help Ramesses anymore than she already had in that situation he would figure her out. She was also extremely grateful that Tafari had always known her identity and kept it hidden even from her own self. Even though if she had shared a body with Ammut then that meant Ammut definitely knew who she was as well. Would Ammut be a good ally?
Ammut had to have been quiet this whole time if Ramesses had been waiting for an answer out of Ramuna when she woke up.
Ammut would be the second step. To offer her an alliance would be a huge win if she accepted.
Was Tafari and Ammut aware that the man they were dealing with was not Set? Some other god disguising himself as Set so that way he would take the blame?
How did she tell them that the one thing that was right about the whole situation was that she was in fact the wife of Set? That she and Ammut were in fact wives of some very dark beings.
It was quite clear that Ammut had not been happy being married to the man who had claimed to be Set if she had called upon Ramuna for help so long ago.
Ramuna sat up and slowly got to her feet. She felt like she had lost much of her power. How could she manage to sneak into Hawara to recharge without that also making Ramesses suspicious?
She had no choice; she had to get Tafari and Ammut together in one room and have a private meeting with them without Ramesses knowledge. He would have to go one more night fighting Apep alone and somehow that made Ramuna feel guilty and responsible.
That is supposed to be my burden and Set's not his…
