Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

Emilia had always thought she was doing her son the greatest good by keeping the secrets about this world of power from him. But she began to question if her decision was the right one, blocking the only thing that can make him feel close to his father.

Hiding from him the fact that his is from the lineage of the strongest awakened humans.

Humans with magic powers that far transcend common sense. How was she supposed to explain how it all began.

The falling of the magic comet.

The mysterious death and reawakening of people and how they came to poses magical powers.

Whatever, she was going to do it anyway.

She tightened her fist as her rickety vintage Chevrolet car pull over on front of the bungalow. It was a simple two room and a parlor house, just for she and her son.

She stepped out of her car and was about to proceed casually into the house. But she suddenly came to a stop and narrowed her eyes.

'Something is...

She twirled over her car and rolled midair avoiding the sudden creature that lunged at her and landed on the other side.

Her eyes widened as they fell on the creature. She recognized them in an instant.

"Horror?"

She questioned with a gaping mouth.

'How can a horror be here? It makes no sense.'

There creatures were not like animals that could be found every here and then. Another term to define them with is 'failures'

After a world changing called 'The Holocaust' humans began to awaken magical powers. Humans without powers began to covet this power and tried to replicate it in several others but experienced a large amount of failure.

They were disposed or controlled as some kind of monster army called Horrors.

The thing standing before Emilia was once human too.

Her frowned deepened as she tried to gauge its strength by its form. She was that experienced to do so. After all, she had fought countless war against them side by side with her late husband.

Despite that rich history she was not attacking, in fact she was visibly hesitating. Many years have passed and Emillia couldn't really say she would be able to fight as when she was in her prime.

Moreso, it is taking all her magic energy to maintain Ethan's seal. If she gets careless and draws out her own power it could cause her son to explode. She had to be very delicate with the process.

'I guess I'd have to do this without my powers...'

She slipped her right hand into a glove hand. Just that moment the horror got tired, with a deafening screech. It darted over the car, aiming its large teeth at Emilia's neck.

She ducked and delved a punch right into its chest. A jolt of electrical traveled through the horror's body from the gloves She was wearing.

Before the monster could react, she grabbed its neck with her right hand and delved numerous punches. Each punch sent several jolts of electricity shimering through the body of the monster.

The monster stumbled away from her–just as Emilia was about to drop her guard, another one fell from the sky, cracking the ground as it landed. Not wasting a second, it slithered forward with its long arms and brandished it claws.

Emilia countered with the glover hand, as their fist jammed with the same force, an explosion erupted repeling both of them.

From the monster's movement, Emilia could tell it wasn't just an ordinary horror. If the one from before was a low rank then this one would be a rank higher.

Even though they were failures, there was a ranking system created in order to guage their level of danger. Just like the awakened classification was established in order to separate from the strong.

Emilia herself was an A class in her active years. The lowest was E class which was four ranks below her and the strongest class was S class which was a class above hers.

However, there were several loopholes to this classification system because the strength of an awakened cannot be in diverse ways. It is possible for an A class awakened to defeat an S class so far the A class has all the environmental factors for example, awakened with powers that are long range, or awakened with magic powers that are associated with nature.

Then, such A class should trap a single S class in a forest. Victory is feasible under such circumstances. Although it was rare.

For someone like Emilia, it was even visible for her. She didn't just have a strong magical power but was also very skilled in hand-to-hand combat. It was something several awakened do not bother to learn since they have magic powers.

Only a selected few such as she and her husband could.

As the horror's hand whistled through her tilted head she clenched her glove hand tighter and delved it into the monster.

A swirling vortex of energy resembling sparkling electricity. It blasted a hole through the horro and sent it reeling through her wooden fence.

The fence was the least she was worried about.

Thud!

Thud!

Thud!

Thud!

For more horrors landed around her, one even landed on her car, completely destroying her wind glass.

'This is getting to be more distracting. They keep coming. Is there something they are targeting.'

At the thought of the possibility, her eyes suddenly shot open and everything fell in piece.

It made no sense that horrors just attacked her all of a sudden.

'This must be a distraction! They must be after Ethan!!'

She was almost about to scream but she had to be wise. Right now, her priority was looking for her son and making sure he is safe and sound.

Another horror snapped at her with a menacing speed, it's tusked mouth gnarling hungrily. But before it could tear one on her, Emilia sidestepped with a fluid motion and countered with a swift strike to the horror's ribs.

An energy blasted out of the glove completely carving out the monster's side.

It slowly sank to its knee and died. Seeing how Emilia had easily dealt with three of them, the other two lunged at her at once.

They were fast and smart and pushed Emilia into a defensive position. Every attack of theirs she blocked caused ripples of energy to vibrate the air.

"It's her gloves."

A man in ninja assassin attire said crouching from the top of her house and watching what was going. Beside him was another in the same cloth.

Behind them were another two in the same clothes but they seemed more meek and unmoving compared to the two in front who were now conversing with his partner.

"What is it with the gloves though. Isn't it just gloves..."

The assassin standing beside the crouching one (who had noticed the glove) said to him.

"Look very well. This aren't just items..."

It was after his partner insisted that he slowly saw the same thing, his eyes slowly widened.

"The master will be very happy if we can bring him that thing. I heard their called Genros, automations that are imbued with magic powers.

"Looks like someone is about to get a bonus."

He said as he stood to his feet and gave one last glance at Emilia, who at this point was already seriously battering one of the two horrors. The other one had been sent reeling to the ground because of Emilia's energy punch glove.

!thud!

The landing this time was different, although it reverberated through the surrounding it was quite controlled. And Emilia could observe this from the way he landed, he conserved as much energy as he needed to.

That was not something a mere novice would be able to do. Moreso, they were two. Then additional two landed.

A deep frown became evident on Emilia's face.
