With a swift motion, Sonya pushed Louise away and got to her feet. Louise stood next to her, not realizing that his shirt had two missing buttons and his chest was bare.
"Am I imagining things, Avni? What is going on here?" Madam Florence screamed. She had one hand on her mouth and the other on her chest.
Jones's eyes darkened, and he took a long stride toward Louise.
"Listen, Jones, do not hurt Louise," Sonya cried out.
However, it appeared as though the man's ears were closed. He extended his hand to strike Louise, but he dodged and evaded.
Sonya's eyes widened, as did the others in the room. "Jones, stop!" She called out to the man again and began to pull him away. However, Jones shoved her away out of sheer fury. Sonya fell and hit her head against the table, resulting in a cut on the side of her head.
"Sonya," Brenda exclaimed as she and her mother went to help her up.
