Chapter 44 - Childish Nobles

"Racial discrimination?" Arthur asked back, confused.

"Indeed, racial discrimination. Arthur my boy, you must have known by our skin tones that we are quite pale?"

"Yes, Uncle." Arthur already knew from the novels that he had read in the past what pale white skin signifies.

"Pale white skin tone is quite common among us vampires. Through the passage of time, Vampire Nobles became more and more arrogant believing in themselves as superior. If that were the only problem then it would have been easily solved since they quickly realized that they were by no means superior or inferior to other races. The problem was, that the Nobles of the Vampire Kingdom felt humiliated at the thought of being equal to other races so they in a vain attempt to mask their humiliation started targeting the nearby Demi human Alliance later becoming the Demi Human Kingdom as a result. W-"

"Uncle, I don't understand one thing, aren't Vampires also demi humans?"

"You are correct, laughable it may sound, but the Nobles, well not all, but most are quite childish and care only about their dignity. Like I was previously saying, the Vampire Nobles in particular two Marquess in collusion with several earls, viscounts, and barons tried to force King Renfred who was king at the time to go to war with the Demi human Alliance."

"… They actually wanted to go to war?" Arthur was baffled. How childish could they be?

"As embarrassing as it sounds, yes! The Nobles to save face wished to show their dominance; however, they were overpowered by King Renfred and his army; therefore, forced to stop with their childishness letting King Renfred breathe a sigh of relief. Unfortunately, he had underestimated their guts because they had realized they would not be punished harshly due to the fact that if they perished the Vampire Kingdom would cease to exist from invading forces. Due to that, they hatched a plan of kidnapping the son of the then Apeman Chief and framing the King to force both the Kingdom and the Alliance to go to war. Luckily the King's spies had informed him, effectively stopping their plan even before the kidnapping took place. Even so, after a few months they did not give up and resorted to childish and petty tricks to anger the Demi human Alliance by buying and or capturing animals that resembled their races and treating them as pets and some even worse. Though as far as I am aware no murders, no kidnappings, or anything that would result in war has occurred due to the difference in races; however, bullying and discrimination have persisted since." Ern concluded the lengthy explanation before taking a sip of his tea to wet his parched mouth.

"Has the Demi Human Kingdom not retaliated in any way? They must have been angered by the fact the Vampire Nobles are treating them as mere animals that can be raised as pets."

If Arthur was part of the Demi Human Kingdom he would have been definitely angered by the Vampire Nobles.

After quenching his thirst, Ern explained "Who would not be angered after being subjected to such discrimination? There have been some tribes among the Demi Human Kingdom wanting war for centuries now. Fortunately, the Royal Fox Clan understands that war would not solve their problems but would add to it. Potentially leading to both the Demi Human Kingdom's and Vampire Kingdom's destruction."

"Surely, such a situation can not persist for long."

Arthur didn't think so, one day war would occur either the Vampire Nobles or the Demi Human tribes that are in favor of war would do something drastic.

Maybe even both.

"You are right and that is exactly why both the Vampire Royal Family and the Royal Fox Clan have tried to negotiate for centuries now," Ern said before rubbing his forehead.

Noticing the gesture, Arthur could understand that negotiations which have persisted for centuries must be the reason for his Uncle Edward and Uncle Ern's headaches.

"Are their demands too much?"

"Indeed, the demands they have made have been quite outrageous. Though our side's demands are no better." Ern replied embarrassingly before continuing with a bit of anger, "However, the outrageous demands were never being put on the table by the Royal Families of both Kingdoms."

"The corrupt nobles again!"

"Yes, and the few Demi Human tribes that have had enough of the discrimination."

Arthur couldn't believe how childish and shameless the corrupt Nobles were.

He now even thought that the plan he devised to create evidence against Jeffrey would be somehow used against them.
