"Come down in five minutes. We'll pay a visit to an old acquaintance."
Cali is not given the opportunity to ask Mr. Killey for any further information before the call is abruptly ended.
An old acquaintance? Cali believes that Mr. Killey is referring to the top justice of the New York Supreme Court, who is named Mr. Scott. She had heard that Mr. Scott and Mr. DelaRoy had known one other for a long time and had gotten along famously since they first met during their first year at Stanford.
Two cars await at the mansion gate. One of them is the black Rolls-Royce that Mr. DelaRoy typically uses. She then walks over to the second black Land Rover and gets into the passenger seat of that vehicle.
After 10 minutes, Mr. Killey will stroll out of the mansion with Mr. DelaRoy sporting a gloomy expression, and then the two of them will climb into the Rolls-Royce. After that, cars begin to move forward.
