Chereads / Replaying the Apocalypse! / Chapter 28 - Chapter 28

Chapter 28 - Chapter 28

Amber and Leo kept looking at each other and then back at the flustered Robin, completely caught off by her declaration.

"Umm Robin.. you do know we were just messing with you, right?" Leo said after a few moments. 'Though I wouldn't say no to you joining us.' he added in his mind.

"Huh? What? Huh?" Robin was like a bobblehead going back and forth between her sister, Leo, the ground, and staring off into space.

She was so flustered she couldn't figure out where or who to look at.

As the realization that she had fallen into their little game dawned on her, Robin's face grew increasingly redder before she couldn't take it anymore.

"I hate you two!" she yelled at them before running off.

Leo watched the fading back of Robin and was prepared to chase after her, but he felt a hand on his shoulder before he could move, "I'll go talk to her... for someone so smart to be such an airhead is frankly amazing if you ask me..."

Leo simply nodded and watched as Amber chased after her sister.

After nearly half an hour, the two finally returned to the makeshift camp.

Rather than harp on the topic, Leo just moved past it and started to discuss their plans moving forward for the next few days.

"Now that you two are back, I want to talk about what we are going to do moving forward. Robin, can you summon Luminara, please? I'd like her to be a part of our planning as well."

Although there was no duration on Luminara's summon and she could theoretically remain on Earth for as long as Robin wanted, the kindhearted girl had sent her back to her home realm after their discussion earlier.

After a moment and a bright flash of light, Luminara appeared in the clearing.

"Alright since we're all here, lets discuss what we are going to do from now on.

Luminara, please feel free to add any details or ideas that you think would be beneficial to our future growth." Leo said.

Luminara nodded her head in acknowledgement and the four of them sat down at the makeshift dinner table.

More accurately, the three humans sat around the table and Luminara sat on it in front of Robin.

"Alright, so here's the deal, I ran into some people from the town earlier and based on what I was able to gather there are two 'factions' going at it right now in town.

The government/police seem to want to retain control of the people, if not gain more control, and the people don't seem keen on the idea because the government is starting to horde resources and safe hunting grounds.

With all that said, I'd like to avoid getting caught up in their struggle at all costs.

However, I wanted to make sure that neither of you had anyone or anything back in town that you would like to save or collect."

"I mean.. I wouldn't say no to more clothes.. We've been wearing the same thing or your clothes for the past few days now and they are getting kind of... smelly..." said Amber.

Robin nodded her head in agreement but didn't add on.

"Alright, clothes are easy.

Anything else?

You are sure that there is no one you want to save?

I'll be brutally honest, and I'm sure Luminara can confirm, things are going to get really bad in town soon and it is unlikely that anyone left alone will survive.

And if they manage to survive, they will most likely suffer at the hands of the 'faction' that takes control of the town and its resources.

So, speak now if there is anyone or anything you cannot stand to lose."

"He speaks the truth master. Where we are now will become a small town for people who need help, but they will suffer greatly before they discover us.

It has always been the case." affirmed Luminara. "But what about your mother, Leo, will you not save her this time?"

Leo looked at Luminara in surprise, "This time? You're telling me I actually saved that wretched woman at some point?"

"I'd say it's about 50/50 on whether you have or have not saved her." she responded.

The sisters were surprised, the fact that Leo was out in the desert all alone when they met him and that he seemed wholly unattached to anything outside of their currently camp, they had just assumed that he was all alone in this world.

"Alright, Luminara, let me ask you this. At any point in any of the tens of thousands of times that I have saved my mother, has she ever provided us with any semblance of assistance? Has she ever had a positive influence on me or the people around me?"

"I would have to say... No."

"Well, there you have it. Let's not waste time on talking about my mother then.

Back to stuff that actually matters." Leo said with a frustrated and annoyed expression.

Some people may think it cruel to abandon family, but Leo's mother had never provided him with any semblance of love or affection.

On many occasions, she had made sure he was aware of what a burden he was on her and her life and that she wished his father would still be alive so that he would be the one to take care of Leo.

Leo was determined to make sure that he never allowed someone with such a toxic outlook on life to be a part of his life any longer.

Before the apocalypse he had dedicated himself to school for the sole purpose of escaping his hellish home life and now that the apocalypse had come, he was going to use his newfound strength to live his life the way he wanted too.

"There is no one and nothing that I want from town." Amber said breaking Leo from his thoughts.

"Alright, Robin?" Leo said as he looked towards Robin.

Leo could tell by the look on Robin's face that there was most likely someone she wanted him to try and find but she seemed conflicted on whether she should ask him for his help or not.

"Robin, I'm offering to help you because I have the ability and the desire too.

Don't be afraid to ask me for anything." he said, trying to ease her mind and get her to speak up.

After she fidgeted back and forth for a few minutes, Luminara couldn't take it anymore and spoke in her stead, "She wants you to save her friends from school.

Morgan and Dan.

They have known each other for many years, and they are very close.

And before you go thinking 'Oh Dan may be in love with Robin so I probably should just save Morgan and leave him behind,' you have nothing to worry about.

Dan and Morgan are engaged to be married and were planning their wedding for after they graduated college in a few months."

Leo glared at Luminara and complained in his mind, 'That last part was completely unnecessary you little shit! How much of a savage does she think I am?!'

Taking a deep breathe, Leo looked at Robin and asked, "Is that true Robin?"

Robin nodded her head weakly in affirmation before looking at Luminara with gratitude.

The little fairy just winked at her master and said nothing more.

Although Leo thought the last part of Luminara's words were unnecessary, they were more for Robin than they were for him.

The reason Robin was afraid to ask Leo for his help was that she didn't want him to misunderstand her relationship with Dan and assume that he was some sort of love interest.

She was grateful that Luminara had spoken her mind seemingly at random.

Wholly unaware, Leo started to formulate a plan.

"Alright, I will head into town on my own and you two will remain here to continue training in your new skills.

You two should continue to hunt any animals you can find in the surrounding area and gain as much experience as you can whilst I'm gone.

Understood?"

The sisters nodded in agreement.

"Good. Robin, give me your phone." Leo said while reaching out his hand.

Robin didn't argue and handed over her phone readily, albeit confused, "It's dead though? What do you need it for?"

Leo didn't respond and instead withdrew a portable charging batter from his inventory and plugged it into Robin's phone.

After a few minutes, he booted up the phone and handed it back over to Robin.

"Show me a picture of Morgan and Dan."

Robin happily scrolled through her photos until she found one of the three of them together and showed it to Leo.

Leo was surprised that he recognized the man in the photo. 'He was one of the college aged kids I saw outside town!'

Rather than say anything to Robin, Leo kept the revelation to himself instead. Dan had left the area alive, but it didn't mean he had made it back to the college alive, so he didn't want to get Robin's hopes up before he knew for sure what had happened to him.

Memorizing the appearance of the girl as well, Leo nodded, "Alright, last but not least, where do they live? And are they the type of people who would take chances in this kind of situation?"

"They live in the dorms at school. Since their building alternates floors of women and men, they live in the same building.

But it's likely that they are together by now.

I don't believe they would take chances but its possible that Dan would need to make runs for food and water since none of us really kept our dorm rooms stocked." replied Robin.

Leo nodded in understanding and prepared to leave.

Before he could say goodbye though, Robin suddenly leapt into his chest, wrapped her arms around his neck, and planted a kiss on his lips.

After holding the embrace for a few seconds, Robin pulled away shyly and whispered, "Thank you Leo."

Leo simply smiled, said "I'll be back" in his nerdiest Arnold S impersonation, and then disappeared.
