Amira had thought for a thousand times why she did that to him, she didn't know why she reached out to place her lips on his, she didn't have the thought. It just happened and she couldn't take back what she did. Her heart had pound in fright when he found out, not for excitement because she thought he wouldn't kill when he found her, that was what she feared.
It came as a surprise to her when he didn't do anything of that, punished her or have her killed. Instead he has taken care of her wound, and allowed her to rest in a room he had given her.
She was woken up by a maid afterward to eat some food, she was served her meal at the large dining room alone. She ate and went back to her room with the assistance of the maid, who had quietly led her. The rest of the night, had been peaceful than she expected, she woke up at each with a startled that the King might come back to punish her but he never did, till it was morning and Amira was up.
She head for the kitchen, if they were anything she could do to assist, they maids in the kitchen avoided her like a plague, rumbling that they King had rejected their breakfast because of her.
The head of the kitchen, Mrs Neah came forth and Amira approached that she intended to make breakfast for the King.
"The King rejected the breakfast, what makes you think he will accept your meal?"
"I want to try." She replied timidly.
He did tell her that she could prepare his meal.
"He's in a bad mood, when he's acting this way it's best that he's been avoided, else he might…" Mrs Neah stopped talking when she noticed the maids in the large kitchen staring at her, and pointing fingers at Amira.
"He would do something bad?" Amira asked, and Mrs Neah simply nodded.
"And it's not advisable that you should be in the kitchen as the king's chosen mate, you need to prepare for the mating ceremony instead and look a bit…" Her accessing gaze swept over Amira and she clicked her tongue, the girl was too thin as if she has never been fed properly.
"I wanted to help around."
Mrs Neah shrugged. "Then you should help by cleaning those pots, and having the dishes washed."
"What about the breakfast?" She lifted her head, and met Mrs Neah skeptical gaze for a moment.
"You are not to concern yourself with the King's meal. I am in charge of it."
"Can I make him so tea?" Amira insisted, since the King had rejected breakfast, he might take the tea instead. She had always prepared it for her father Vaahan each time he comes back from work, the tea worked to calm his nerves.
She hoped it could work for the Alpha King as well.
"Go on, see to it." Mrs Neah hissed.
Amira knew the discriminating look on the face of Mrs Neah, she doubted her, and doesn't seem to care what she intend to do.
"She thinks she's better than any of us because she's the King's chosen mate. She's just an omega like us, she might be having favor from the king, but it's not gonna last before he treats her like the others." One of the maids behind Amira muttered, Amira heard her but didn't bother to find out who spoke. She resorted to carrying out the task before her, serving the King tea and coming back to wash the pots that were used to prepare the guards meal.
Mrs Neah watched her as she prepared the tea, she hadn't asked what she was going to do with it, King Jaziel was definitely going to throw the tea back in her face.
She knew nothing, how dreadful the Alpha King was, she knew nothing that his heart had been sealed, wasn't that why he was cursed?
If Amira could read the expression on Mrs Neah's face, she knew exactly what she was thinking, the cruelty of what King Jaziel would do to her.
She poured the tea into a teacup, and took a loaf of bread, King Jaziel might want that too. She didn't know, but she was willing to give it a try.
Mrs Neah scrunched her nose, as Amira walked past, leaving the kitchen.
She met the guards outside the hallway, and requested for the King with a courtly bow.
"He's in his study." The guard that replied didn't seem pleased with her. She knew none of them in the palace held her in any regard, she did the worst and ran away, they hoped she hadn't come back.
She walked cautiously to the study, so she didn't spill the tea in her hand.
She stopped in front of his study, and knocked.
Just once.
She waited, there was no reply.
She lifted her hand, and knocked the second time.
"Who is there? I gave an order that I didn't want to be disturbed!" He roared from inside the study, Amira flinched at the sound of his voice and her grip tightened on the tray she held.
"It's Amira, Alpha King, I am sorry to bother you." She replied calmly.
She heard tittering around her, the maids in the kitchen had followed her down here, they hid at the corner and mocked her.
Amira sighed.
Why did the King bother to bring her back? Why did he choose her in the first place? He could have gone for someone that was from a higher rank.
She turned to leave with her shoulder sagged, just the moment that the door opened.
Jaziel stood before her, with tired eyes, dark circles lay beneath those perfect pairs, his hair was messy, and dropped on his face. His hand was on the door, the few buttons on his black sleeve were left undone.
"Come." His voice sounded hoarse and drained. He stepped aside for her to get in.
Amira felt her breath hold up in her throat, she took a step past him into his study, her head had brushed his arm that was stretched on the door, slightly and he looked down at her.
The Alpha looked tired, he didn't seem like he had washed up either, did he stay up all night? Her large eyes blinked at him, lost for a moment, Jaziel stared at her lips.
Amira looked away, and he closed the door behind her.
She walked into his study, and dropped the tray in front of his desk. "I made this for you." She mumbled without a glance at him.
He leaned against the wall, his hands folded on his chest, and watched her. She didn't turn, and kept her back at him.
"You did?"
She hummed a response.
"You worked in the kitchen?"
He had seen her apron which Amira had forgotten to take off. She hit her head slowly at her forgetfulness.
"I'm sorry, Alpha King."
"You don't have to be sorry, I told you to stop saying that."
"I'm sorry, I…" She clamped her lips shut, and Jaziel moved away from the wall. He made his way down to her, he stood beside her, staring at the tea she brought and the bread.
Amira took a step away from him, and he drew nearer to her.
Her eyes lowered, staring at his desk as if there was something interesting in it.
"You made it?"
"Yes. The lady in the kitchen said you rejected breakfast, so I made this. I thought you shouldn't work on an empty stomach, and that the tea might help in some way. I…" She rasped, she couldn't help it when his gaze was fixed on her.
She couldn't speak coherently, not under his gaze.
"That's…" She couldn't look at him.
He chuckled silently, and took his seat on the chair. He pulled the tray close to him, and took the teacup from it.
He sipped from it, under her lashes, Amira watched him.
"It tastes good."
She heaved a sigh of relief. He stood up, and pulled out a chair for her to sit. Amira sat down, and her eyes went over the study room, his desk, the small shelves that held books on it, the paper work on his desk, the lamp that was hidden in a corner.
He ate the bread, and drank the tea.
He finished the breakfast she had made, and wiped his mouth, and he caught her staring.
The corner of his lips curled, and she reached out to pick up the empty teacup, and placed it back on the tray but she didn't leave, and he didn't ask her to leave either.
She sat there, watching him work on the remaining papers for another couple of minutes before his eyes fell, it got heavier to lift in the couple of minutes. He left the chair, and took the couch dragging Amira's chair closer to him.
Why didn't he send her out?
Amira didn't ask him, she saw his eyes closed and he exhaled deeply. He held her hand, and placed it on his chest, with the sound of his breathing.
Amira knew he was asleep, her fingers moved, traced the lines of every feature of his face.
The King's look was indeed magnificent.
She took her hand away, searched for a blanket in his study, she didn't see any. She went out to get one from her bedroom, and covered him with it.
She moved to his desk, and her eyes caught a file, it was about her family. Her eyes flickered, when she saw a note that says, they were still in prison.
In prison?
Her eyes widened.
