Allen looked at the book, wondering why it was so different from the others in the store, or why the light that emanated from it felt different.
He flipped the pages, trying to get a look inside, but everything inside was just about how certain woods are better for certain people but they are still researching it, and that the core depends from person to person.
This reminded him of something from his previous life, he remembered reading somewhere that the wands for each character in Harry Potter depends on their Celtic sign, which told what tree were they under. This spiraled into a deep dive in Flourish and Blotts, looking for anything regarding a Celtic calendar.
After finding one, he opened it up and looked for his birthday.
"September 20th so a vine wand… if we consider my current birth, but what if it uses the one from my previous life?" He looked for his previous birth in the calendar and found it.
"Oak, so is gonna be either an oak wand or a vine wand, the core will be up to the wand, I see, well, that was interesting, maybe I can buy both of these books?" Allen thought internally.
He picked up both books and walked to the counter, pilling them up with the rest of the first year books, the clerk just gave him a quizzical look.
"You can take those, no one buys them anyway, would be better for me if I can get rid of them." He expressed.
Allen not waiting a single second for the clerk to change his mind, picked up all of his books and thanked him on his way out.
"Okay! Thank you! Goodbye!"
And he left as fast as he could, next up would be the cauldron, set glass or crystal phials, a telescope and 1 set brass scales, most of this stuff was for potion brewing, than anything, so he walk around in the alley until he found a potion shop.
Entering the shop and buying everything was faster than with the books, he had to buy them brand new, sadly, more so because he didn't want to risk an accident in potion class, good thing is, that is a one purchase thing, and he doesn't need to buy any ingredients, so next year he will be able to save money that he wasted on these materials.
By the looks of it, the clerk already had prepared multiple sets of what was necessary, except for the telescope.
"No, kid, you'll hafta buy it in the store that is in front of me" She told him.
"Sigh"
Allen sighed, he didn't want to look around too much in the alley, it would make him want to buy stuff, so he hoped to buy most of the stuff in one or two stores.
Resigning himself, he walked over to the store out front and asked for a telescope for a first year at Hogwarts, not even bothering to look around the store, in fear that he would want to buy something else.
The clerk packed him up, and he realized that he was carrying way too many stuff. I'm gonna need a trunk, fuck, but think about it, it's a one time purchase as well. He thought to himself, a frown showing on his forehead.
Allen walked to a trunk store, hoping to buy one with a light weight charm, since it would be easier for him to carry not only his stuff, but the trunk itself as well.
"Hello" He said to the clerk in front of him "I'd like to buy a trunk for a first year with the light weight charm please"
The clerk looked at him from top to bottom with a questioning look on her face, but deciding against her better judgment, she did as asked and brought one of the cheapest trunks for a first year.
"H- How much?!" Allen reacted surprised, it was by the far the most expensive thing while most of the stuff he bought was a lot of galleons, they were a combination of things, and not a single one with that price.
After buying it he would only be left with less than half of his money for the rest of the year, counting the price of the wand already in his budget.
He massaged his brow as he payed the necessary amount for the trunk "it's an investment, it's an investment" He repeated to himself multiple times, not really wanting to part ways with the money he just got.
Finally, most of his materials are already inside the trunk, he went directly to Ollivander's, with his book under his arm, he wanted to ask him some stuff since he was already here.
"Hello?" Allen asked as he entered the want store with his trunk behind him.
"Ah! Welcome, welcome, How may I help you today Mr Lionheart?"
Allen flinched at the mention of his last name, but more than anything, a question assaulted his mind "How do you know my name Mr Ollivander?"
"Ah, but I could ask the same to you, could I not?"
Allen gave him a cold look "Your name is outside the store sir, while mine, I don't see it anywhere" He said with a suspicious look.
"Yes yes, as inquisitive as your mother, you have the same bright green eyes as hers"
Wait, the same green eyes? Could it be that I got this… ability? From my mother's side? And could it be that she thought the same thing? Keep the ability active so they would think its her eye color?
"My mother? So you sold her wand to her? The same with my father?" Allen asked, wondering about his parents from this world.
"Of course, if they are in Britain, I can assure you that most likely they own one of my wands" He said proudly.
"Well, but we are not here to talk about the past, are we? No, we are here because you are looking for your lifelong partner"
"My wand, yes, why call it my partner?" He asked Ollivander.
"Because, Mr Lionheart" Allen flinched again "If everything goes good for you, this wand will be with you from the moment you leave the store to the end of your life, so I believe calling it a lifelong partner is not far from the truth, wouldn't you agree?"
Allen stayed silent for a moment before answering "Yeah, I think you are right, well, let's continue, can you pass me oak or vine wands? I feel like they would work with me"
This time, Ollivander gave him an inquisitive look "Mm, yes, it could work, but first, let's measure you to make sure.
Then Ollivander proceeded to measure from top to bottom, left and right "Which is your wand arm?"
"Left arm"
Ollivander nodded and measured Allen's left arm, hand, and even fingers, after a moment of thinking, he confirmed to Allen his suspicions.
"You are right Mr Lionheart, it is probably that oak of vine will be more suitable for you, let me look for them"
He went at the back of the store and brought for six wands, three oak and three vine wands.
"Here, an oak wand, nine inches, dragon heart-string core, give it a try"
The wand had a light to it that looked wrong to him, but nonetheless he picked it up and gave it a flick, then all the cabinets around opened up.
"I don't think it's the right one sir" Allen said, putting down the wand.
"I don't believe it to be the one either Mr Lionheart, here, try this one, vine wood, fourteen inches, unicorn hair"
The light that shone on the wand looked wrong to him as well, but gave it a flick nonetheless.
It created a small gust of wind, revolving all the papers around the store.
"Not this one either sir" He said putting the wand down as if nothing happened, and Ollivander ignored the mess as well, passing him another wand.
Each wand he tried had a dull light to them, which, after the fourth try, he realized that it meant that those wands didn't chose him, and while the ones with oak wood shone with some intensity, the ones with vine wood shone a bit more, showing him that the past was in the past and he should be on the present.
"Mr Ollivander, I think all the oak wands won't respond to me, bring all the vine ones, please" A serious look in his face appeared and at the same time, his eyes shone brightly, with a green light.
After Ollivander brought most of the vine wood wands, Allen activated his magic, which showed him the light of each wand, most of them almost responded to him, but fell short in the end.
Finally, in the mountain of wands, he saw one that shone brighter than the rest, almost like a fire burning, he picked it up and as he did, he felt his magic travel across him and to the wand, a spark left the tip of the wand, which turned into a small flame that took the form of a phoenix and then dissipated.
"Ah, so it's that wand who chose you Mr Lionheart, vine wood, phoenix feather, fourteen inches, very curious indeed"
"This pattern of speech… did he pick up Harry's wand by mistake…?" Allen thought to himself, a wave of nervousness washed over him.
"The core of this wand was picked up by my father, from a phoenix in a far away land, he told me that the phoenix who he got it from was reaching his first burning day, a miracle to watch, but just a single feather hanged from her tail, and after the burning, this feather caught on fire, but nothing happened to it, almost as if it was meant to be used, then the phoenix gave the feather to my father and after he brought it home, the both of us created this wand, the first one I created with my father."
"It holds a special place in my memories Mr Lionheart, so I hope it can serve you well"
Allen looked at the wand, a warm sensation coursed through him, almost as if the wand understood him, and he could understand her.
"Um, yea, thank you Mr Ollivander" a crack in his voice resounded, but he tried to pass it off as a cough.
"Here, the galleons" he put the money in his hand.
"Before I leave, could I ask you something, Mr Ollivander? I got this book, which I assume it's from you, could you explain to me more in detail about the charm to get closer to your wand" He wanted to ask about this from the beginning, but after getting his wand, and feeling this sensation of comfort emanating of it, he wanted to know about it even more know.
"That thing? Oh yes, well, it's nothing too fancy, you see, we use our wands to use spells, or even create potions, correct?"
Allen nodded along, listening intently to the on spot lecture.
"Well, since the core of the wand just translates our magic into what we want with the intonation of the proper words, it just uses our magic, but what about the wand itself? It used to be a part of a magical creature, and not only that, the wand chooses the wizard, but in your case, I guess the two of you chose each other, since I could see it in your eyes, you were looking for something, and when you found it, the wand reacted in turn, as if it looked for you"
"The charm is nothing fancy, instead of shooting magic, we let the wand absorb our magic, and that in turn would make them favor us more, making the connection between wand and wizard harder to break, even if you get disarmed of it."
"I called it the Raising Wand Charm, you only need to pick up your wand and speak the words 'Magicae Ad Magica' and you'll feel your magic leave you and being absorbed by your wand. This way, you will be able to strengthen your relationship between the wizard and the wand. Sadly, not a lot of people care, or even think about their wands, other than mere objects."
Allen nodded his head, absorbing the all the information Ollivander gave him, it made sense to him.
Even the core was similar to him, a feather who refused to die and came back on a second life. This wand was made for him, and they waited for each other all this time.
He muttered the words 'Magicae Ad Magica' and his magic was directed toward his wand, nourishing it with his magic.
"Yes, just like that Mr Lionheart, I can see that you don't think of the wands as mere objects, so I hope you'll continue to take care of it in the future"
"I will Mr Ollivander, thank you"
And with those words, he left the store, excited for the start of his school year, even if he were to be a book character, his emotions are real, and so are his experiences, he won't let anyone take that from him.
