Chapter 56 - wide awake

Just a moment ago, Locke saw the clouds at the top of the mountain, the abyss at the bottom of the mountain, and the blood-red armored man with cold eyes behind him.

The next moment, Locke saw a few clumps of trees between the cliffs. However, Locke was falling too fast, so he couldn't grab them in time. He could only leave his outstretched hand behind. Although he couldn't open his eyes due to the strong wind, Locke still looked down with determination. He was ready to face death. A deep, dark green pool? Before Locke's brain could react, he lost consciousness under the huge impact.

After an unknown amount of time, Locke seemed to have reached a place full of darkness. He couldn't remember how he got there, nor where he was. He even forgot who he was. Locke walked, ran, looked around, and looked into the distance like a mindless magic puppet, mechanically doing things that even he didn't understand.

Maybe I'll live like this for the rest of my life? Locke, who was numb, suddenly had a thought. Then, a wave of pain woke him up a little. It was getting more and more painful. Finally, as if a skylight had opened in this dark place, light shone in.

The first thing Locke saw when he woke up was a huge and blurry pincer. After shaking his head to clear his head, he saw a strange-looking creature with protruding eyes and eight legs walking sideways in front of his nose. The strange creature was using the larger pincer of its one long and one short pincer to clamp down on Locke's arm. After regaining consciousness, Locke finally knew where the pain was coming from.

This strange little guy wasn't big, only the size of a palm, but it was quite strong. It actually broke Locke's arm, causing another wound to appear on Locke's arm. Indeed, Locke was in a very bad state at this time. From head to toe, there wasn't a place that was unscathed. There were scratches and bruises everywhere, and his chest was stuffy.

Locke pulled the strange creature that was still clamping tightly on his left arm with his right hand. The moment the pincer left Locke's arm, a faint arrow of blood spurted out of his arm.

"Damn it!" Locke cursed. He grabbed the creature with his right hand and smashed it against a rock next to him.

This guy's shell was quite hard. After colliding with the sharp edges of the rock, only a white mark appeared on the back of the strange creature's shell.

Seeing this guy continue to bare its fangs and claws, Locke was furious. Bang! Bang! Bang! " After a while, the shell of the strange creature finally broke. White flesh and yellow fluid flowed out of its body. Locke watched as the creature stopped moving and casually threw it on the ground.

Only then did Locke return to his senses and observe his surroundings. It was a dark green lake surrounded by a white sandy beach. Other than the thing that Locke had just killed, there were no other living creatures. Right above the lake was a mountain wall. The mountain wall was so high that the top could not be seen. In the other direction, there was a dense forest. The verdant forest was quiet.

Who am I? Locke thought. Locke? Yes, my name is Lok. Why am I here? The blood-red armored man, Karl with a broken arm, the blood-red armored soldier with his throat pierced, the dead Dahl and Klein, the escaping Zoro, and finally the cliff of the abyss … All these scenes flashed through Locke's mind, and he finally remembered everything.

The violent smashing of the strange creature just now made Locke feel as if his bones were falling apart. His whole body was sore and unbearable. Locke looked at his condition. There were countless large and small wounds all over his body. His flesh was rolling and his body was covered in blood. It looked quite scary. The most serious one should be his chest. Maybe it was because he hit the lake when he fell, his chest took the brunt of the impact. A feeling of suffocation made the sore and unbearable Locke feel even more uncomfortable, as if he was going to die immediately.

The half-body armour had fallen apart, leaving only a few pieces of iron hanging on his body, showing that it used to be there. Locke's longsword was no longer at his waist, and he had no idea where it had fallen. His clothes and pants were scratched to varying degrees, like a pile of cloth hanging on his body.

Locke had just stood up, but before he could steady himself, severe pain came from all over his body. He almost rolled over again, and blood slowly seeped out of the wounds all over his body.

Even if he was still alive, he probably wouldn't be able to live for long, Locke thought.

A white figure on the lake not far away appeared in the corner of Locke's eyes. He turned his head and looked. How could he have forgotten about the princess? The white figure on the lake was Angelina, who had fallen off the cliff with him. She was floating quietly on the lake at this moment.

As a commoner and a low-level non-commissioned officer for a long time, Locke's first reaction was to go and save her. She was the princess, the daughter of their great Faustian king.

Locke had caught fish and shrimps in the river near the village since he was a child, so he knew how to swim. Dragging his tired and sore body, Locke jumped into the water and swam towards Angelina.

What kind of water is this? Locke's physical pain was initially tolerable, but as soon as he entered the water, all kinds of stimulation and soreness came from his wounds. It was as if a handful of salt had been sprinkled on his wounds, and the pain almost made him faint. While swimming, some of the lake water entered his mouth, and he finally knew why. The water in this lake was all saltwater.

After swimming near Angelina, Locke grabbed her with one hand and struggled desperately with the other as he swam towards the shore.

When they finally reached the shore, Locke dragged Angelina to the side, and instantly fell on the sand as if his body had fallen apart, panting heavily.

It should be noon at this time. The sun shone through the gaps between the trees and shone on Locke's face. Locke licked his dry lips. He was thirsty and hungry at this time, and he had just drunk a mouthful of salty lake water. It made his throat very uncomfortable, as if there was a piece of iron stuck in it.

Looking around, there was no living thing at all, so where would he get anything to fill his stomach? Locke fell on his back, his limbs spread out, ready to welcome the arrival of death. There was no water or food in this place, and he was injured all over, without a trace of strength. It was simply a hopeless situation.

Locke was very calm at this time because he felt that he should have died a long time ago. He should have died when the crimson-armored man chased after him and when he jumped off the cliff. The light of the sun through the trees shone on Locke's face, and his expression at this time was indifferent.

No! Locke seemed to have thought of something. When he was exhausted, he actually sat up again and looked at the strange creature he had just smashed to death. The broken carapace and the yellow juice between the white flesh were so tempting in Locke's eyes.

Locke struggled to stand up, hobbled over, grabbed the strange grayish-white creature's corpse, and walked back. After sitting down next to Angelina again, Locke licked his lips and couldn't wait to put his mouth on the carapace in his hand. First, he gently took a bite of the white flesh. The meat was tender and smooth, and then he licked the yellow juice around the carapace. It tasted a little astringent, but Locke didn't care at all. In fact, the astringent yellow juice gave Locke the feeling of drinking sweet spring water. The palm-sized meat made Locke feel like he was eating a luxurious meal.

As for whether this thing could be eaten or whether it was poisonous, it was no longer within Locke's scope of consideration. Over the years as a soldier, he had eaten everything, including centipedes and spiders. He had even roasted and eaten them, and he even had some experience in eating this kind of insect.

The meat and water contributed by the strange grayish-white creature was very limited. After the initial taste, Locke ate most of it in two bites. Just when he was about to finish the rest in one breath, Locke saw Angelina next to him, unconscious.

She seems to be a princess, Locke thought. He didn't even know if he could survive in this place, so why should he care so much? Locke hesitated whether he should share some of the food in his hand with her.

Angelina was lying quietly next to Locke. After being washed by the lake water, Angelina's fair face was revealed to Locke. Her clothes were also soaked in water, revealing her curvaceous figure. She looked like a quiet angel.

Locke frowned, but still put the remaining food in his hand to Angelina's mouth. His heart softened.

Because Angelina was still unconscious, the feeding process was very difficult. A lot of meat was stuck between her teeth and not swallowed by her. Fortunately, there was still some juice left. The unconscious Angelina seemed to feel the importance of this water, so her body naturally drank the yellow juice contributed by the strange creature. She also swallowed the white meat in her mouth.

As for whether the yellow juice was the creature's brain or blood, Locke didn't care. Of course, the unconscious Angelina didn't know either. To his embarrassment, Angelina might have been too thirsty. After drinking the juice in the carapace, her tongue actually followed suit and sucked on his fingers that were holding the carapace, sucking the remaining water from his fingers into her mouth.

Locke blushed and hurriedly pulled his finger out of Angelina's mouth. The sound of his finger being pulled out made Locke's heart skip a beat.

After hurriedly throwing away the messy thoughts in his mind, Locke threw away the carapace in his hand. Except for a thin carapace that could prove its existence, the rest of the strange grayish-white creature had entered Locke and Angelina's mouth. Locke wasn't picky about food. Except for the hard carapace, he swallowed everything, including the cartilage and internal organs. If it weren't for the fact that Locke hadn't recovered his strength and that the strange creature's pincers were hard, he would have opened the pincer that was different in size from the other one to see if there was anything edible inside.

After resting for a while, the creature's meat was probably digested. Locke finally had a trace of strength. Since he wasn't dead yet, he had to fight to live, Locke thought. This place couldn't only have this kind of strange creature with a grayish-white carapace. It had so many legs, so it should like centipedes and spiders that liked to live in dark places.

Locke stood up and walked to the stone closest to him. The surroundings were empty and there were no dark places at all. He felt that there should be a surprise under the stone.
