Chapter 60 - Enchanted creature

Locke, who had just been lying down, had already been awakened several times by the cold. After turning left and right in irritation, he simply got up and stopped sleeping. He walked to the campfire and continued to tend to it. The flames crackled as they rose. The night sky was quiet and the sky was dotted with stars. Locke could not recognize any of them, only the few galaxies that traversed the sky. Uncle Yoshk had told him about their names, but he could not remember them. Just like that, he passed the time in boredom.

Just as Locke was considering whether to make some supper, Angelina wasn't asleep either. Of course, the comfort of the straw mattress was not as good as the soft bed in her palace. She was unconscious before, so she didn't feel much when she fell asleep. Now that she was awake, the straw mattress was really uncomfortable to sleep on. She noticed that Locke wasn't sleeping next to her. She looked at the turf that the guy had been weaving all day and understood at once.

Although Angelina didn't mind Locke being close to her now, she wouldn't take the initiative to let him sleep next to her. She couldn't bring herself to do it. Even if the two of them had done more intimate things, there was no other way. Angelina gave herself a plausible excuse.

His gray hair indicated that he was a commoner. His rough and direct approach indicated that he should be very straightforward. He could cook well and sew things. He was a careful person. Angelina silently evaluated Locke's performance in front of her, just like a noblewoman choosing a husband. Even though she was more distinguished than most noblewomen.

Locke touched the two remaining fruits in his arms. He was going to save them for breakfast tomorrow. Breakfast was rarely available in the barracks. Food would only be distributed before an expedition or a war. The reason was that the baron rewarded the soldiers who were about to go to war, and they might not be able to eat for the whole day after the war.

She was a princess, so she should eat breakfast every day. Locke thought about it, so he deliberately left two fruits for each of them tomorrow morning. Thinking of the fragrant and alluring feeding process, Locke couldn't wait to feed Angelina tomorrow morning.

The cold wind blew again and again, and the branches rustled, adding some sounds to the quiet night. Looking at the yellow fruit in his hand, Locke considered whether he should finish his breakfast first. It was not a good idea to stay here in the cold wind. It was better to find something to do.

He took a medium-sized wooden stick, skewered the fruit on it, and roasted his supper. The fragrance of the fruit, the warmth of the campfire, and the body fragrance of the beauty not far behind him made Locke feel very comfortable.

Angelina turned her body with difficulty and finally turned slightly in a different direction. She wasn't injured at all. Whether it was the attack from Blood Red or the fall from the cliff, Blood Red deliberately didn't want to hurt Angelina, and Locke acted as a cushion for her. Angelina was mainly exhausted physically and mentally. She couldn't muster any strength now. Angelina, who was strong as she was, also felt deeply isolated these days. She desperately needed a shoulder to lean on. Her brother and father used to stand in front of her and shield her from the wind and rain, but now there was only one guy by her side, Locke.

Angelina felt an inexplicable sense of peace as she secretly observed Locke, who was grilling food by the campfire. Perhaps it was the feeling of safety, she thought. With this feeling, Angelina gradually fell asleep.

Locke finished his supper in two bites and had nothing to do again. He looked back at Angelina. She was already asleep. Locke, who had good eyesight at night, even saw the quiet sleepiness at the corner of Angelina's mouth. Next to the campfire, Locke took a stone and threw it into the middle of the lake. The ripples dispersed and calmed down again.

Counting the stars, watching the moon, and throwing stones, Locke was like a lonely traveler, passing the time in the night in confusion and boredom. He remembered that his sister and parents used to accompany him, and that a few days ago, there were brothers and comrades who chatted with him. But now, it seemed that he was the only one left in the world. Locke felt a sense of irritation. The night was getting quieter and colder, but Locke was getting more and more irritated. "Damn it, I don't want to think about it anymore! Go to sleep! "Locke simply stomped his feet, got up, and returned to the cave.

Angelina was still sleeping peacefully, the turf quilt covering her tightly, not leaving a single corner for him to sleep on. The corner of Locke's mouth twitched, and he directly turned over and got on the straw mat, but his movements were very gentle. As for whether Angelina had woken up or not, only God knew.

Locke, who was on the bed, didn't stand on ceremony. He leaned close to Angelina, pulled the sod quilt over, and covered half of himself with it. The sod quilt was still small, but it was just enough to cover both of them. Locke planned to make it bigger when he had time. Locke, who was lying on the bed, naturally held Angelina's waist with his right hand. Angelina's body only trembled slightly.

The night was silent.

Early in the morning, Locke woke up very early. Maybe it was a habit developed in the barracks. Since he was already awake, Locke did not linger around. He gently withdrew his arm that was pressed under Angelina's armpit last night, got out of bed, and practiced a set of boxing moves.

As he shouted, the wind from his punches became a little fierce. Locke's external injuries had almost healed in the past two days. This surprised Locke. According to his past experience, it would take about a week for these external injuries to heal.

Perhaps it was due to impetus self-healing, Locke thought. It was the first time he had suffered such a serious injury since he started practicing impetus. Although Sir Wyr and Yoshk had introduced the self-healing ability of impetus, it was the first time Locke saw such an outstanding effect. He was still very surprised.

Locke walked to the stone wall where fresh water flowed, drank some mountain spring water, and rinsed his body. He washed away the sweat from his previous training, and a refreshing feeling came over him. Then, after returning to the cave, he left the last fruit left from yesterday beside Angelina, who was still sleeping soundly. Locke quietly retreated. He still had to run around for today's food.

Unlike Angelina, who had a keen perception with her strong mental power, Locke relied on his years of experience and perfect control of his body after practicing impetus. He could detect even the slightest movement around him immediately. Locke had already discovered that Angelina had been woken up by him last night, but he pretended not to know. Locke was about to fall asleep last night, but the girl suddenly turned around and hugged his left arm tightly. Locke wanted to laugh. For the first time, Locke's attitude towards Angelina changed from that of a princess to that of an ordinary little sister. It wasn't hard for him to guess that Angelina was still a little girl based on her childish look.

Based on how hard Angelina hugged his arm last night, she should have recovered most of her strength and could eat independently. Locke put the fruit next to Angelina, meaning that he didn't want to take advantage of her anymore. He had already taken advantage of her last night.

Holding the dagger with a blood-red linen handle, Locke walked slowly in the woods. The sharp stone that had been stained by several grayish-white carapace creatures had died last night. The carapace of those strange creatures was really tough, even a sharp stone could be broken. Fortunately, Locke didn't break the carapace with his dagger, otherwise, he would have died of heartache.

Following the traces left behind yesterday, Locke walked to the area with the fruit. There were very few fruits in this season. Locke had only managed to find about ten of them after walking around the area, and most of them were shriveled up. He reckoned that this would only be enough for two meals, just like yesterday. He planned to look further away. The number of grayish-white carapace creatures on the sandy beach had decreased a lot since yesterday afternoon. Although he didn't count them in detail, he estimated that there were at most seven or eight of them left. Was it enough for two days? Was it enough for three days? Locke didn't want to find a new source of food when he was about to starve to death.

The deeper he went into the forest, the fewer withered trees there were. Instead, there were verdant hundred-year-old trees everywhere. Locke guessed that this should be the direction of Morphey Forest. There was a lot of mixed information in the military camp. Locke roughly knew that Morphey Forest was not only one of the junctions between Faustian and Shalor, but also the largest forest in both countries. It was a place where major monsters ran rampant. Without the strength of a mid-rank Knecht, don't even think about entering Morphey Forest. Otherwise, what awaited you would be a part of Morphey Forest's fertilizer. This was the most popular saying.

With the sun during the day and the stars at night, Locke could roughly tell the direction, but it was only a rough idea. Everywhere in the forest was the same. Even an experienced hunter couldn't guarantee that he wouldn't get lost after walking in the forest for so long. After walking in the forest for so long, Locke didn't know where he was currently. He guessed that he should be at the junction between Morphey Forest and the Bering Mountains.

Most of the trees behind him were withered yellow, and there were not many fruits left in the forest. Locke was considering whether he should continue to go deeper. There were more than ten fruits in his arms, and some of them were not the same as yesterday's. Locke wasn't sure if he could eat them. Although these were enough to bring back, what about tomorrow and the day after? He gritted his teeth and continued to go deeper.

The dagger tightly gripped in his hand was his greatest weapon.

After walking for about two hundred meters, Locke stopped in his tracks. He couldn't go any further. Unlike the forest where he came from, there were no living creatures. Locke could already feel the aura of several wild beasts here. There was even one about fifty meters in front of him. Moreover, this beast's aura was different from the others. It gave him a very special feeling. Locke, who had eaten many wild animals, had never felt this way before.

Locke crawled forward slowly. He wanted to see what it was. This place was not too far from the lake where Locke and the others were staying for the time being. He had to be fully prepared in case this beast went to where he and Angelina lived one day. Although his impetus had recovered a lot, he still couldn't be careless. This place was close to Morphey Forest.
