Chapter 12 - Chapter 12

"Ah!" whimpered Max, "Please don't kill me!"

He curled into a ball, covering his head and shaking in fear.

"Drop the gun now," said Enyo.

"Nope, you won't fight unless I get rid of him," laughed Hemlock, "He's in the way!"

Enyo sighed. Her head was spinning from the poison. She frowned and tried to shake away the pain. "Fine," she said, "Get rid of him then, I dare you."

"Wait what?" asked Max.

"I dare you," repeated Enyo, "Kill him and see how Father reacts. It's one thing to fight the traitor, but it's another to kill an innocent and have to cover it up."

She could see Hemlock's confident smile wavering. Before Hemlock or Anaya could say anything, Enyo disappeared. "What the!" shouted Anaya as Max disappeared too. BANG! She pulled the trigger, hoping to shoot something.

Nothing was hit and Enyo appeared a floor under, panting. "Enyo?" asked Max, "You good? Let's get out of here!"

Enyo shook her head, "They're coming, I need you to get out of here now!"

Max nodded and ran down the stairs. Enyo let out a shaky breath. Her body was burning up, the poison was not very good on her body. Even with the regeneration, it would probably take days (and lots of fevers), to get rid of the effects completely. She sighed and pulled out her dagger, it was time to actually end this.

She ran back to Hemlock. She was so fast he didn't even have time to react. The dagger was pressed against his throat. "Don't move," she growled, "I'll do it."

"I know you will," gasped Hemlock.

Anaya pointed the gun at them. "Put it down," smiled Enyo, "You'll shoot him. Not even your aim can save him if you shoot and I dodge."

Hemlock laughed, "You're still underestimating us."

BANG! Anaya pulled the trigger. Enyo dropped Hemlock with a gasp. The dagger clanged to the floor and she clutched her stomach. "Hah!" laughed Anaya, "I did it! I shot her!"

"You're crazy," muttered Enyo.

There was blood over her midsection and it hurt like hell. Hemlock looked up at her from the floor, "Got you!" he laughed and coughed, as blood dripped from his mouth, "We'll do anything."

Enyo winced and stumbled backward. Anaya took the opportunity and charged. CRACK! Enyo slammed into the wall behind her. The wall broke. Anaya's fist hit her repeatedly and she yelled in pain.

BAM! "This is for killing the doctors!"

BAM! "This is for humiliating me in combat training!"

BAM! "This is for almost killing Cynthia!"

BAM! "This is for… well I'm enjoying it. HAHAHAHHAHAHA"

Finally, Anaya stopped and stepped back. Enyo fell to the floor. Blood dripped down her face. Her mouth tasted like iron and she was pretty sure her nose was bleeding. Hemlock had stood up now, a bandage around his body. "Ha," he smiled, "This is worth the pain."

Enyo stood up. "Stay down," muttered Hemlock, "Bullets and poison's gotta hurt! Ha, just die already."

"N-no," muttered Enyo, "I really don't want to do this."

"Do what?"

Enyo pulled her short hair back, revealing a small red circle on the right side of her neck. Hemlock and Anaya blanched, "Wait! No!" they lept for her. Click.

…

"Shhh" whispered Cynthia. They were in the middle of nowhere by a forest by a cliff. There was a secret lab there. "Two guards at twelve o'clock," whispered Cynthia.

Enyo nodded, she lifted her gun, and… Cynthia stopped her. "Guns are too loud, we didn't bring a silencer. What's the next best option?"

Enyo thought for a second, "Suffocation?"

Cynthia nodded but Enyo was already gone. She tiptoed towards the two guards and grabbed one by the neck. SNAP! He died. "Intru-"

Enyo clamped a hand over his mouth. He squirmed then slumped, unconscious. Cynthia gave her a thumbs-up and then grabbed the guard's badge. "We're in."

They were not. BOOM!

Enyo and Cynthia went flying backward. The world shook and Enyo hit her head. She tried to sit up but her head spun. "INTRUDER!" beeped the laboratory.

"Cynthia?" asked Enyo.

"Here," shouted Cynthia's voice.

She looked around but couldn't see Cynthia anywhere.

"Help!" shouted Cynthia and Enyo looked towards the cliff.

Oh no. Cynthia was dangling, her hand was barely hanging on. Enyo looked at the distance and started running. The cliff was too far away. Cynthia had flown much farther away.

Enyo jumped, "Cynthia!"

It was too late. Cynthia's fingers slipped and she fell backward. "No!" shouted Enyo, she reached for Cynthia but their hands but she missed by a millisecond and Cynthia disappeared.

There was a dull thump and Enyo flinched. Enyo looked around and saw a footpath down. She hopped down and ran to Cynthia's side. "Cynthia?" she whispered, tears streaming down her eyes, "It's all my fault!"

"Don't cry," smiled Cynthia, "Soldiers don't cry, you must learn to be hardened. For us, there is a secret."

"Huh?" asked Enyo, she stared at Cynthia. Her body was bent at an awkward angle and her head was bleeding, "You probably hit your head a lot…"

"I'm fine," said Cynthia, frost slowly closing the small wound on her head, "Don't move, okay?"

She lifted her fingers and began feeling around Enyo's neck. "What are you doing?" asked Enyo.

"There is something that all experiments have… it unlocks your full potential. It'll subdue your emotions too. That's good for now 'cause I need you to finish the mission… okay?"

Enyo nodded, "Okay."

Cynthia pressed on the side of Enyo's right neck. There was something hard right there, hidden behind the hair and in the skin. Click.
