"Come here," said father gently. His voice made Enyo shiver.
She walked slowly over. "Faster!" he shouted and she flinched.
Enyo ran over to him and he grinned. Father patted his lap and lifted 7-year-old Enyo onto his lap. He was sitting on his throne today. Or at least, that's what the older Experiments called it. Father always sat at the head of the table when he had official business.
Today a group of businessmen were seated around his table, eating and siping their blood red wine. The colors made Enyo afraid. She wasn't supposed to be afraid though, so she didn't show it. "So," said a weedy voice from a man dressed in a white suit, "Let's get down to business shall we?"
Enyo looked at him, then up to Father. He was smiling in a weird creepy way when he had a violent idea, "Of course," said Father, neatly dabbing the corners of his mouth with a napkin, "What would you like to start with?" his voice was low and warning.
The other men glanced at each other and then smiled. Enyo let out a small gasp as the men around them pulled out guns and pointed them at Father's head. "Hand over the Experiments," said the man who seemed to be the boss.
"Really?" asked Father, "This is how you treat me after I feed you? Lay your pockets with gold? Come on now, Harvey?"
"Gold?" laughed Harvey, "What gold? We gave you money to fund your Experiments but now the doctors are dead! We haven't seen results in 3 years! Hand over the girl." He swirled his gun to face Enyo and she flinched, unconsciously drawing closer to Father.
He stood up and Enyo stood next to him, clinging to his arm out of fear. "I'll protect you," he said, making her see him in a whole new light.
"Protect? Protect my *ss," laughed Harvey, "Now come here girl and I won't hurt you."
"No!" she shouted, stomping her foot into the floor. The stone floor cracked and the men around her flinched. She didn't see Father's malicious smile but the men stopped worriedly.
"What are you waiting for?" shouted Harvey, "Kill him!"
They didn't move. Father pulled a gun out of his suit pocket and pointed it at one of Harvey's men. BANG! He shot him in the head and the man fell to the floor. Enyo flinched. "You!" Harvey pointed the gun at Fahter, "Kill him!"
None of the men moved and Harvey looked around in confusion. Enyo looked up slowly. Their eyes were blank and their faces emotionless. "What did you do?" asked Harvey fearfully.
"Queenie here," Father pointed to the corner where a young lady was sitting next to a younger boy. No one had noticed them until now. "She is my 8th Experiment. Can you guess her power?"
Harvey was silent but Enyo could see he was shaking. Fear? Worry? "No?" he asked quietly, "What about Raido?" he motioned to the young boy, "Why don't you demonstrate yours?"
He looked at Harvey who turned his gun towards the boy. Queenie whispered something to him and he nodded nervously. He pointed at Harvey who froze, "Stop moving!" he shouted at the 9-year-old boy, "Or I'll kill you!"
Raido scrunched his face in concentration. Suddenly, Harvey dropped the gun he was holding and dropped to the floor, screaming and writhing in pain. "AHHHHHHHH!"
Enyo flinched and gripped Father harder. He shoved her off of him and smiled at her. "Out," he said to Raido and Queenie. They both left.
He walked towards the door and Enyo followed. "What do you think you're doing?" he asked, "I didn't say you could leave."
"Wa-wait…" Enyo reached for him but he shoved her back into the room.
The people were out of the trance Queenie had put them in. They turned to look at her, expressions violent and angry. Enyo tried to run but the door slammed behind Father, leaving her in a room with those trying to kill her.
…
"Will you stop singing?" asked Enyo, annoyed.
"Just give me two more minutes!" sang Asclepius, "To freeze the memories! Don't let me cry, I remember you told me to forget… you said you would cry, but not because you cared…"
"Finally," muttered Enyo as the song ended.
"Why must you always hate on my singing?" asked Asclepius, "If it weren't for the experiments, I could have been a professional singer."
Enyo sighed and rubbed her forehead tiredly. She barely got any sleep last night. "Whatever. I'm too tired for this."
"I told you," said Asclepius, "If you need, I can give you a sedative."
"I don't need it," Enyo said defensively.
"You really don't need to hide it," he said, "We all have nightmares."
"I don't have nightmares…" she trailed off, knowing how obvious it was that she was lying, "I was just… I had a dream about… never mind."
Asclepius nodded, "No worries, but if you ever need anyone to talk to, big bros here to talk!" he grinned and Enyo threw a fork at him. It stabbed into the wall behind him as he ducked.
Asclepius shook his head in mock disappointment, "Missing now? Must have gotten rusty." he smiled as she glared at him, "Hurry up and get out of here! You'll be late for your first day back to school."
"Ah, crap!" Enyo jumped up, "I forgot."
"Of course you did," sighed Asclepius, "Don't die~"
