Enyo took a deep breath and stepped into her classroom. The chattering classroom turned silent in seconds. All eyes turned and stared at her. Enyo waved awkwardly, "Hi, I'm back…"
"Enyo!" squealed Valerie, "Come sit here," she patted the seat next to her.
"Umm…" Enyo looked at Max who was staring out the window, Maybe it would be better if she distanced herself from Max. It would certainly be safer for him. "Sure," she smiled and sat down.
"So girl," Valerie smiled, "How've you been? How come you've been out for a week?"
"Oh, I was sick," answered Enyo, "No worries though, my older brother is a doctor and he was taking care of me."
"You have an older brother?" asked the girls around her, and some of the boys.
"Oh yeah," she replied, "He's 23."
"23?" asked Valerie, surprised, "He's 23 and already a doctor? Doesn't it take a super long time?"
Enyo shrugged, "He's really smart."
"Wow," sighed Bridgette next to Valerie, "You must come from a family of prodigies."
That was true. Or at least partially true. Basically all her siblings were prodigies of some sort, but only because of the experiments and enhancements. "Uh…" Enyo was unsure how to answer.
Just then, Ms Hosado walked into the classroom, saving Enyo from answering the question. "Alright class, settle down…" she paused, "Oh! Welcome back Enyo, I hope you are feeling better."
She nodded and Ms Hosado went back to giving out announcements. "So," whispered Valerie, "Your brother, is he hot?"
The girls around them giggled. Enyo shrugged and was grateful when homeroom ended.
…
Throughout the passing period and classes, Enyo avoided Max. Or at least, she tried, until the end of the day. "Enyo!" Max gasped and grabbed her by the shoulder, leaning over and panting. "Oh god, why did I run…"
"Oh," she said, "Hi Max."
"How come you've been avoiding me?" he asked.
"I haven't been avoiding you," she said quietly.
"Is it about what happened last time?" he asked.
She flinched, "What happened?"
"That's the thing…" he fiddled with his fingers, "I don't remember…"
Enyo sighed in relief. "But…" He continued and Enyo frowned, "I mean I thought that I had been kidnapped. Then you got shot and poisoned, and… that's about it. It was kinda eventful. But…"
"But?" asked Enyo.
"But I think it was just a dream," he said, "I mean apparently I got drunk. Did I get drunk? I don't remember drinking."
"Oh," said Enyo in relief, "I think you did. I don't remember much but I'm pretty sure my brother brought you home. I mean… it was just a dream right?"
"Right," nodded Max, "But-"
"See ya," said Enyo, running off. She waved, leaving Max alone. She ran into Asclepius's car and opened the door, "Whatsup!"
He turned around from the front seat and stared at her for a good few seconds. "Umm…" she said, "Never mind, can we go now?"
"Sure, sure," he grinned and turned on the music, singing along as he drove, "If I became the memory~"
Enyo sighed and closed her eyes, leaning her head against the car window. Before she knew it, she was back in another… nightmare.
"Stay back!" shouted 7-year-old Enyo. She pointed the gun she held at the nearest person. She had stolen it after she had snapped the neck of a man in a blue suit. "I'll shoot you!" she shouted fearfully.
"Come on girlie," laughed the nearest, his smile showing his golden teeth, "Hand over the gun and come to me."
She shook her head and pointed the gun at him. "Now, now," he said, "We both know you can't shoot that gun. It's not your thing."
She shook her head and aimed, remembering how Cynthia taught her. Breath. She took in a shaky breath as the man walked slowly towards her. Aim. She aimed for him. She aimed for his head the way she had been taught. She ignored the people around him, aiming for exactly one spot. Hold steady. And… shoot. Enyo pulled the trigger. BANG!
"Up, up, up!" shouted Asclepius as he slammed the car door, "Get up, Enyo."
She sighed and rubbed her eyes. How had she fallen asleep so quickly? And that dream… she barely remembered what had happened back then so why was the dream so vivid? She slowly trudged into the house and pulled off her shoes.
Enyo headed upstairs but was stopped by Asclepius. "Come downstairs," he said and she followed him to the living room. They sat down by a coffee table.
"What is going on?" she asked, "I have homework."
Asclepius shook his head tiredly, "I've been researching," he said and handed her a pile of documents. "I've been talking to the other Experiments."
Enyo frowned, "Experiments?"
He nodded, "Bat has been… an ally."
"Bat…" Enyo sighed, "Didn't he rat me out to Hemlock?"
Asclepius nodded again, "He's been helping me out with something else too. We've been working on it for a while but… I lost hope when you disappeared," he said, "But now that I've found you… we can… do…"
"What," asked Enyo sternly. From the tone that Asclepius was using, he was saying it as if… as if… "No," she said, "Don't tell me…" She looked him in the eyes and saw the answer. "No!" she slammed her hands at the table which promptly broke in half with a CRACK.
"Yes," said Asclepius carefully, "We are going to kill Father."
