Chapter 25 - A Spooky Bus Ride

Lili had a luscious mane of jet-black hair that cascaded down to her waist, making her the center of attention and a magnet for admirers. Many young men sought her affection, but Lili was aloof, rejecting all of them.

Among her suitors was a young man named Xiaofeng, who, after facing rejection, began to spread malicious rumors about Lili. His words eventually reached her ears, leaving her fuming with anger.

One evening, Lili stepped out of the laboratory, exhausted after working on her experiment report for several consecutive days. It was past 9 PM, and she decided to treat herself to a meal at a small restaurant just two bus stops away from the university campus.

After boarding the bus and dropping the fare into the slot, she found a seat and started to doze off, her head tilting as she swayed in rhythm with the moving bus. Her long hair flowed straight down, reaching her knees.

When the bus stopped at a station, a young couple entered through the front door. The moment the girl saw Lili, she gasped and let out a shrill scream. Then, she whispered to her boyfriend in a high-pitched voice, "Do you see that girl with the long hair? She looks just like the ghost Sadako from 'The Ring'!"

Lili overheard their conversation and was incensed. Using the corner of her eye, she looked at the couple, who turned out to be Xiaofeng and his new girlfriend. Seething with anger, Lili hatched a plan.

With a painstakingly slow and eerie demeanor, Lili turned her head to face them and, in a bizarre tone, uttered, "Can you... see... me?"

A spine-chilling scream followed, and Xiaofeng and his girlfriend rushed to the exit, desperately fleeing the bus. Meanwhile, the other passengers erupted into laughter. One of them jokingly remarked, "Haha, I'm just glad I saw her dropping the fare!"

Still seething, Lili was further agitated by the comment. So, she turned her head slowly again, casting an eerie glance as she asked, "Can you... confirm... that it wasn't... ghost money..."

Before she finished her sentence, there was a loud "clang," and the bus driver had already opened the doors and made a swift escape.
