Chapter 9 - 9: Kara Framed me up

It seemed like Kara decided to ignore me and vent her anger on the alpha, or whatever it maybe she wanted to do. But she didn't favor me in any way.

The next day, the rising bell rang at its normal hour, 4:00am. They expected all slaves to rise and go into the bathroom for a shower. I slept for barely two hours because the incident of the other day clouded my mind. But when I opened my eyes, Kara was in front of my cubicle watching me. It startled me, although I was expecting to see her, but seeing her that early was never expected.

"Good morning, Ma," I said while prostrating before her. But there was no reply from her. I knew I had committed an unforgivable offense, and I didn't expect my punishment to be light.

The guard came and unlocked my cage, allowing me to crawl out of it like I usually do. I hurried into the bathroom and had my bath. The maids came in, and distributed sacks as usual. But when it was time to join my team for the farm, it realized that it wasn't going to be possible.

"You!, stand there," she yelled at me.

Immediately, my heart began to beat faster. I felt a wave of fear rush down my spine.

"You'll follow me to the High house."

"My place is on the farm, Ma."

I replied immediately, without thinking of the consequences of replying. Of course, this time, my mouth had moved faster than my thinking as usual, and I knew I was going to pay for it.

Kara looked in surprise. I saw her eyes twitch as she wondered if I actually spoke back to her.

"What have you learnt about speaking back to your elders?",

This time, I didn't reply. I knew I shouldn't. The question was her tactics of getting me to speak back to her again, so she would retaliate in full force.

When she saw I didn't reply, she nodded in the most evil way I had seen and started walking towards the palace while gesturing I followed her.

We got to the high house that early, and all she said to me was to wait at the corner. I waited for the next three hours before they summoned me. Kara handed a tray to me, asking if I followed her. We got to Alpha Ethan's living room, and they asked me to drop the food, which I did.

I waited in the hallway, while thinking of what Kara might be up to, when the guards came to bundle me. They dragged me into the alpha's chambers and, from the look on his face, I knew all was not well.

"What did you add to this meal?", he asked.

His voice was too cold this time, and I know this was no time for jokes. But I was lost and confused why the alpha would ask me such a question, knowing fully well that I didn't prepare his meal.

"What did you add!" his voice thundered.

I saw the smirk in Kara's face, while she waited for me to respond.

I would have answered, but the fear of being slapped mercilessly by kara wouldn't let me.

But before I could process if I should reply or not, She got up from her seat and pushed me to the floor.

I smashed my face to the hard floor, but that wasn't even my concern when I was about to experience something worse. She added some herbs into Alpha Ethan's meal. Herbs that could make him lose his memories. I knew that was the work of Kara, and she framed me up for it.

Who will even believe I'm innocent or dare to accuse the alpha's lover of such an act? So I was definitely easy prey, and because that was my first day in the high house, there was no way to make them believe my innocence.

She pulled my hair up while pulling me up at the same time. Tears flooded my eyes, and I allowed them to fall carelessly down my cheek.

 "Stop!" his baritone voice commanded.

"She'll have to take this food and attain the same effect she wanted for me"

I saw the surprise on kara's face. She had wanted a severe punishment for me. Her plans had been to kill two birds with one stone, but it seemed that both of her birds had refused to die.

 "But that's not enough punishment!"

 "That's enough for her".

Immediately, they sent words to brew the herbs. I could see the disgust in alpha Ethan's face when he looked at me. I wondered what he might be thinking about or how he now saw me. Kara had succeeded in creating more enmity between the both of us. But at the same time, I wondered why I cared. I wondered why I would allow what he felt at that point to affect me.

After all, he was the alpha, and could have stopped everything I went through or would still go through, but he didn't.

The maids walked in with a glass cup, in it contained a liquid. It was tea. I began to panic.

I feared I would lose it all, and I knew there was no way I could escape if I lost my entire sense of identity. The thought of this torture becoming my life forever, tormented me and it sent bumps across my skin, because if I completely forgot I had a life outside that hell, I doubt I would think of escaping.

After they had fed me, they bundled me out of the High house, and locked me back in the cage. But kara took it upon herself to announce to whoever cared to listen that I had poisoned the alpha's food. And the captains in charge of us decided to double my chores.

Considering that I might lose my memory by the next day, I knew it was a matter of time before I lost my life.
