"The mail man sent you this Sir. It's from the council." One of the guards dropped a black envelope on the table, beside Ethan. Alpha Ethan was perplexed. He knew what black envelope meant to the werewolf race, and it coming from the council gave him more reason to worry.
He quickly picked it up, glancing through the design as fear began to grip him. He quickly reminded himself that he was the alpha and as such ought to be courageous. After he took a quick look at its content, he paced around the room in confusion.
The guards had left the room and went back to his duty post, leaving me alone with the alpha.
I had come earlier to present a mug of coffee to him. Seeing me, it was difficult for Ethan to make sense of how healthy I had become, after what happened the day before. He knew I was not a werewolf and had no power to recover that quickly. But when he was about to enquire how I got to heal that quick, the guard came in with the envelope.
The content of the letter must have been a disturbing one, considering how sad he looked. He picked up his phone and was about to make a call when some footsteps came close.
"Hello, darling, I have some good news for you." Kara sounded, as she walked into the room, displaying a wide smile across her chin. She moved swiftly to Ethan, wrapping her hands across his neck. She stopped immediately, when she saw the look on his face.
"What's wrong? Why's your face like that?" She inquired.
Ethan pointed to the letter on his bed. He had taken the letter out of the envelope and dropped it to the bed after he read the content. She picked it up immediately, her heart beating so fast with exertion. After she took a glance, she became more uneasy. I had come to know Kara to some extent, and I knew that that look wasn't a good one. I knew it wouldn't mean any good.
She turned to me almost immediately signaling me to give them some space. But I was too lost in my thoughts. I had become concerned about Alpha Ethan again, and that was something I hated to admit. The more I tried to hate him, the harder it became, especially since I started working at the palace.
"Drop that and get out of here you slot!" Kara shouted, jogging my brain back to reality.
I quickly dropped the tray, nodding emphatically. But my instincts had told me to do a different thing. So when I left the room, I went towards the window and began to peep.
Of course, this was one of the acts that always landed me into trouble in the Cardias pack. This time, I prayed to be lucky and for no one n to see me.
"We can't escape the iluma moon effect kara, I don't want to fail the werewolf race. How do I even find the one born with a gold star? Who knows if he or she is still alive?" Ethan said softly. His face was saddened, as he turned to face Kara who stood beside him.
"Oh cut that carp Ethan! There's no one like that among us, the constellation records revealed the last star born was over 200 years ago. Or are there any werewolves up to 200 years old?" Kara snapped.
One could see the effort she was making to convince Ethan. Her face had turned from that of concern to a cold one. It was a look she wore whenever she intended to do evil.
"But the diviner said.."
"Shii..." Kara interrupted.
"You shouldn't pay attention to those hungry people, Ethan. Most of them are seeking cheap favour." she continued.
"No Kara, we have to take a good look at the constellation records again. I'm very sure we're missing something somewhere." He sounded concerned.
It was justifying for Ethan to be worried. Being the Alpha of the Cardias pack, he had a lot on his shoulders.
The Cardias Pack was the leading pack of the whole werewolf race. And as such, it was the tradition of the race to be governed by whomever was the Alpha at the time. Ethan knew what was at stake. His brother had been working tirelessly to dethrone him, and he wasn't going to allow him to find the Star born before him. Allowing him to find the star born would give his brother an edge over him, and his father might consider dethroning him. Aside from that, if nobody found the star born and the moon effect took place, it would destroy the entire werewolf race. And that was more of a concern.
"Just relax my love, ok? I'll take care of this." Kara's voice had become soft and alluring.
She gently placed Ethan in the bed. She sat on him, while crossing her legs over, to face him. Shortly she was robbing the back of his neck, something she did whenever she tried to calm him down. But this time, she had an agenda.
She pulled out a black stone from her pocket, while acting as calm as possible. Ethan dared not notice what she was up to. Shortly, he fell into a deep sleep. Kara had initiated a dark magic right before my eyes.
She quickly got up from Ethan, and laid him properly to the bed. She reached for his head and began to cast some spell, muttering some strange words beneath her breath.
"Luky ma seri sa..shii...!" She muttered violently. This continued shortly until dark smoke began to evaporate from Ethan's head.
I had guessed what she was up to. I also wanted to take to my toes and run away from the evil woman. But I had become transfixed where I was. I was so bathed in fear to the point that I couldn't move.
Two things she was most likely to do to him was, either killing him, or erasing his recent memory. But killing him wouldn't Favour her, considering the fact they hadn't gotten married yet.
So, she had most likely erased his recent memory. Her phone buzzed immediately, and she picked.
"Done baby...meet me at the inn." She said to the caller at the other end. She shoved the black stone back into her pocket and made her way to the door.
I froze where I was, hoping she wouldn't turn back and see me at the window. That would be the end of me.
As the footsteps became fainter, my heart beat began to normalize. I fell to the floor gasping for air, astonished by how lucky I was.
