Chapter 10 - 10: Discovered a little Secret

When the great Xavier as he was called by everyone in the pack, walked to the table, everyone of them stood up to welcome him. The Lycan of the westmoon together with Alpha Ethan and Kara, all bowed their heads in honor.

The great Xavier was Alpha Ethan's father. He was in his early eighties and the great which was added to his name was because of the many things of valor he did during his reign. I would vehemently argue that Alpha Ethan's both parents were dead, if I didn't get to work in the High house.

He was a man of few words, but it never stopped him from commanding authority. News had it that he was still fully involved in governing the pack and also in the alpha's personal life.

A maid pulled his king sized seat before he approached, and when he sat, the others proceeded to sit.

"I believe we all know why I summoned everyone?" he asked, his eyes fixed on Ethan.

"What's stopping you two from giving me an heir?", he continued.

His voice commanded authority, and his poise kept everyone in check.

"We're still trying Father."

"And how long do you intend to continue trying?"

Ethan gulped, his father had a way of keeping him on his toes.

"Do you need to see a doctor, Kara?"

"No sir, I mean, we... we will give you an heir as quickly as possible sir".

I found myself gawking at Kara. That would definitely be my first time seeing her tense.

I never knew witches could become tense, so as I watched her stutter, it made me a bit happy that something in this world could make her tense.

"I believe the kids are working hard to give you an heir Sir, please let's give them some more time." The Lycan pleaded.

Zula Lockwood, the Lycan of the westmoon pack, was Kara's uncle. He had come in honor of the great Xavier's invitation.

Ethan and Kara were betrothed, and since all packs wanted to be in the good books of the Wires, the Lycan would do anything to see that Kara got married to Alpha Ethan. He knew the importance of the connection. I also came to know that Kara was the daughter of the Late Lycan of westmoon.

Tales had it that her family were descendants of the goddess of power, hence the power they possessed. But Ethan's father had given a condition, which was for Kara to get pregnant and deliver a son before any marriage rite would be done. But it seemed the lovers were finding it hard to conceive, hence they had remained just lovers.

"I'll personally make sure she conceives this month," the Lycan continued.

I wanted to chuckle where I was; I needed to. Watching the almighty Kara get nervous was a thing of joy and definitely a pleasant sight to behold.

The captains in charge of our duty roster had posted me to the high house after the herbs incident. They believed I had lost my memories, and would definitely think I belonged and will always be a slave. But that wasn't the case, in fact, the hunger to escape had increased, and I knew I could no longer continue as a prisoner for long.

I don't know why I didn't lose my memories. It was strange, just like what happened when my eyes moved a robe under the bed. I could also feel some energy within me, but I had no one to explain to me what it was.

"Then make sure it doesn't exceed this month," he thundered.

He stood up almost immediately and left, leaving me to wonder why he would interfere in a grown man's life that way. Ethan didn't let a word out all these while, he seemed lost and confused.

"I'm afraid they will make Andrea the alpha if it exceeds this month," he said, finally, with a low-pitched baritone voice. He seemed defeated and confused.

His father had threatened to overthrow him, if Kara failed to get pregnant before the next month. Although he appeared vulnerable, I had no pity for him. I had become a woman scorned towards him, and nothing about him was going to move me anymore.

 "Could anything be the matter?"

"I'm still trying," she snapped.

"I believe the both of you heard what the Great Xavier just said, and I believe you two will do the needful."

Tension was written all over Kara's face and she adjusted her seat as if it was hot. It appeared there was more to her inability to conceive for the alpha, and they having a meeting about it had made her very uncomfortable. She picked up a glass of liquor and poured the whole content into her mouth; she stood up immediately and asked me to follow her.

Truly, I was meant to be a maid for the general High house, but Kara had been acting like she owned me. She would order me around for her own personal needs and still expected me to carry out my duties for the general High house on time.

Shortly, We got to her room. That was the second time I found myself in a place so cold and dark all my life. The first was the first time I entered her room, while the second was the second time.

Kara's room seemed like it had a strong connection with some spirits. With each time I entered, it appeared as if my soul was battling some sort of spirit. They mostly made the room of black elements. From the clothes, to the bed, to whatever the room was about. This jogged back my memory to the wedding party I attended, the one that changed my entire life.

She went into the room and came back with a basket filled with clothes. Kara had a personal dry cleaner, but it was as if she needed me to overwork myself, and it appeared her hate for me hadn't disappeared with the memory she thought I had lost.

I collected the clothes and walked down the laundry room, but my oversized slippers had flipped me and I fell along the way. A sachet of drug had fallen along with the clothes and from the inscription, it was a pill one takes to avoid getting pregnant.

Just then, I knew I had discovered what would break Kara, and I had evidence. But I wasn't so sure how valuable this new discovery would be to me.
