Chapter 7 - 7: Surviving in the Pack

A month had passed since I became a slave in Cardias pack. I had thought I knew hell after I ran away from aunt Helen's house due to maltreatment, but little did I know that my life could get a hundred times worse.

Here I was, a slave in the hands of monstrous beasts. Yes, I would call them beasts because these were the worst weeks of my life.

As early as 5am, about three maids dressed in a clean robe would distribute a sack to each cubicle, and barely twenty seconds later, they would unlock the cage, making us match out in a single file.

That morning, we were sent to our individual duty posts, mine was on the farm. My team and I would leave for the farm as early as 5:15am. We would, till the soil, weed, plant, harvest, and do all manner of farm work. But we were never allowed to taste anything from the farm produce. The only thing we ever had was a sack which contained a hard loaf of bread and a sachet of sour milk.

I recalled a time, someone was caught eating an orange, which she picked from the ground.

The guards didn't hesitate to behead her, right before us. They were hard and cruel on us.

"57!", a high pitched voice called out. "57!", it was Kara, again.

The witch that had sworn to make my stay miserable. Rumors had circulated that I spent the night in the Alpha's house, and ever since then, everyone I met, took it upon themselves to remind me how much of a slut I was.

They mocked me, claiming I opened my legs for the alpha in order to get a better position in the pack, only to end up as a slave. Not just a slave, but a scorned one at that. Kara on the other hand, had made it her personal duty to make me feel miserable.

"I'll make sure you don't live up to a year here!!", this, she always whispered into my ear each time she pulled me to a corner of the farm.

That day, she had arrived, as usual and told me to weed the most dangerous part of the farm.

Herbs which had thorns in them, were planted on a large portion of the land. There were medicinal herbs, used only by the alpha and people that mattered in the pack. In addition to that, the farm was located close to the pack's rehabilitation home. A place they kept werewolves who ran mad due to one reason or the other.

These wolves could rape or even kill one on site, so everyone avoided the area. But that line of thought wasn't for Kara as she would always want me to be there. She preferred assigning me to that area.

She pulled my ears, again, whispering all manners of insults into them. Then, she threw me to the herbs, allowing the thorns in them to poke out my body. I had wanted to wail, in fact I needed to, but where would I get the strength from? All form of life was being sucked out of me, as each day gone by

Thoughts about Victoria had always disturbed me, I knew she would be the only one who worried about me. She was all I had and I knew they had probably destroyed my phone and she wouldn't reach me. All these and many thoughts saddened me.

Later in the evening, when we had retired to our various cubicles, a fight broke out. It was something I had never witnessed. One of the slaves managed to steal the keys of the padlock, and unlocked his cage. He opened the cage, and unknowing to the guard closer to his cubicle, he strangled him. He picked the dead guard's gun and began to shoot down the other guards.

All I could hear was the deafening sounds of gunshots. Since we were all separated by cubicles and cages, there was no way to communicate with each other.

Shortly, the beta entered the prison, together with his guards and shot the man down.

But it didn't end at that, he took it upon himself to flog us one after the other. They began to open the cages, with each person standing according to their numbers.

Three guards were called to flog us. Each slave would walk to them and receive about ten strokes of cane. I later learnt from number fifty six that this happened whenever anyone disobeyed or tried to escape. They would kill the rebel and punish every other person, by this, no one dared to disobey.

She also told me how they got their slaves, all their slaves were human and we were about a hundred of us. They would lure them with an enticing job opportunity, kidnap them and turn them into slaves. She also didn't forget to remind me that no slave had ever made it out alive.

That information was a lot for me to take in, because with each day that came, I wondered how my life would end. My mother had told me I was a destined child, what then changed?

The guards still focused on the flogging and it was fast approaching my turn, then I noticed how dizzy I had become. It was true I hadn't had a good rest for a long time, but I didn't think that was what my body needed.

My body had been dizzy and nauseous lately. I had even vomited consecutively for the past three days, and all that would come out of my mouth was a small whitish liquid. It was just then that I remembered that I hadn't seen my period for over a month.

Yes, I had forgotten that I even menstruate, in fact I didn't need it at that state, but one thing mustn't be true. I mustn't be pregnant.

"57!!!", the beta yelled, as he signaled me to match in. Shortly, I could no longer feel my surroundings, I slumped and passed out.
