Chapter 1 - CHAPTER ONE

From the view from Marianna's bedroom window. The ocean is a deep blue, and the waves are crashing against the rocky shore. The lighthouse is silhouetted against the sky, its light rotating slowly. Seagulls are flying overhead, their cries echoing in the salty air. The beach is covered in shells, and the sun is shining brightly, creating a sparkling effect on the water.

Marianna is In her early twenties and she is seen walking along the boardwalk, admiring the view of the ocean, but feeling a sense of sadness and loss. As she walks, she passes by the town's landmarks and reminisces about the time she spent there with her father. Then, as she reaches the end of the boardwalk, she spots something glinting in the sand. She bends down to pick it up, and sees that it's a piece of sea glass, shaped in a heart form and as she walked along the boardwalk, she remembers her dad and how he taught her about the ocean and the creatures that lived in it. She can almost hear his voice, telling her about the mysteries of the deep. Suddenly, a seagull swoops down and snatches the sea glass from her hand, and takes off into the sky. Marianna watches it fly away, feeling a sense of loss and longing just then, a young boy that is a year older runs up to Marianna, out of breath. "Excuse me," he says, "I saw a seagull take something from you! Did it steal something important?" Marianna looks at the boy, noticing his curious eyes and friendly smile. She thinks for a moment, and then replies, "Not really. It was just a piece of sea glass, but it's okay.

As the boy looks at her quizzically, Marianna explains, "You see, my father used to tell me that sea glass is a symbol of hope and transformation. The glass is broken and tossed into the sea, and over time, it's worn down by the waves and sand until it becomes smooth and beautiful. It reminds me that even though my father is gone, he lives on in my memories. And those memories are like sea glass – they're precious and unique." The boy nods thoughtfully, and asks, "What was your father like?" as they both gaze at the ocean.

Marianna smiles and begins to tell the boy about her father, describing him as a kind and gentle man, with a love of nature and a passion for teaching others about the world around them. She tells the boy about the times they would walk along the beach, identifying shells and watching the waves crash against the shore. The boy listens intently, and then asks, "Do you still come to the beach, even though your father is gone?" Marianna looks out at the ocean, and answers, "Yes, I do. It's where I feel closest to him.
