Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: First cooperative hunt

  "What for?"

Karel, interrupted, was obviously not very happy.

August just ignored Karel's displeasure; multicoloured dragons were like that, not too good-tempered.

"No more planning. Listen to Angela and smoke it."

"Are you sure it works?" Questioning look.

"It should at least be more useful than it is now."

  "So... Well~"

After a moment's hesitation, Karel nodded in agreement and stopped digging in the dirt, instead beginning to gather up the dried bushes nearby.

The three young dragons moved together to gather dried bushes halfway up the hill.

This slope is covered with gravel and has some vague land, but the dry land obviously cannot support the growth of these shrubs, so they are all dry and dead.

Standing in front of a pile of bushes, August stretches out his claws to grab the bushes, but barely pushes them up.

Look at the bush in his paws.

The bush is rootless and obviously dead.

  The mood became heavy.

This land is really harsh, and the harsher it is, the rarer the creatures are.

Karel and Angela were already hugging a pile of bushes towards the small cave entrance.

Seeing this, August also picked up the collected bushes and headed for the small cave entrance.

The three young dragons collected and piled up the bushes, creating a large pile of dry bushes at the entrance of the cave.

"Will this really work?" Karel asked.

She was still a bit sceptical about the feasibility of this approach.

"That's fine, but I'll have to ask you for a favour later," August replied.

"All right, I'll do whatever you want, as long as it's meat."

Hearing Karel's reply, August nodded his dragon head and then turned his head to look at the entrance to the cave.

The hole had just been dug by Karel and me.

But now it has to be worked on.

August stretched out his claws and began to dig into the earth.

He wanted to make a hearth shape for the hole, which would make it easier for the soot to get into the hole.

Karel looked at August, who was digging another hole, and cocked his white dragon head.

I thought you said you didn't dig holes? Why is he digging again?

"Not digging a hole? Want me to help?" Karel.

"No~ it's just a bit of preparatory work, you can wait a while"

  After answering, August kept busy.

Looking at the shape of the hole August was digging, Angela slowly realised in her mind what he was thinking.

August, this guy is obviously different from the other red dragons, is it because he's an ectoplasmic dragon?

If this were a normal red dragon, in a situation of absolute dominance, he would definitely just order her and Karel to keep digging and overpower everything with his power.

It took less than two minutes, and with a pair of sharp claws, August had dug a simple stove hole.

  Digging the hole.

August began to pile the bushes up to the entrance of the cave.

  After the piling is done.

Standing at the entrance to the cave, the Dragon's Kiss opened and spat out a small ball of fire which landed directly on the shrub.

The dry bushes were instantly ignited, but there was very little smoke as they burned so brightly.

From the burning bush, August looked sideways at Karel.

"You spit into the fire, but be careful not to put it out completely."

  "Is that possible?"

"No problem," Karel said confidently with a straight face.

She stepped in front of the cave, the white dragon's head pointed at the fire, its kiss open.

From the dragon's kiss, a white, cold current erupted.

Immediately the cold current touched the fire, the fire stopped burning, not even smoke came out, it went out completely.

  Karel: Σ(っ °Д °;)っ

  August: (* ̄; ( ̄ *)

  Angela: (* ̄; ( ̄ *)

  "Sorry~"

Realising that he had messed up, Karel immediately apologised sincerely and his eyes drifted to August, he had messed up, this guy won't beat up the dragon, right?

"Well, try to vomit less next time."

There was no blame, it was quite normal for things like this to go wrong, and Claw grabbed a tuft of brush to add wood to the dying fire.

Angela looked at the busy August in silence, [Temperament is also different from a normal red dragon, as a red dragon he doesn't seem to get angry so easily].

Listening to August's tone, it seemed like he wasn't going to pursue the matter, and Karel was happy that he wouldn't have to take a beating.

  "Aha~" he nodded good-naturedly.

While he was stacking the shrubs, August opened his Dragon's Kiss and a small ball of fire landed on the shrubs he had just stacked.

  The fire flared up again.

  "Karel, try again."

  "Good~"

Karel, who had already built up his momentum, opened his dragon kiss and a cloud of cold spat out.

The cold stream it spat out seemed much smaller this time.

The small streams of cold hit the flames and immediately minimised the fire to the point where it wasn't burning and smoke was rising.

  Watch the smoke.

August knows it worked and the dragon's head turns to Angela.

"Angela, you fan the flames of the cave."

  "Okay~"

In response, Angela walked over to the entrance of the cave and stood upright, her blue dragon wings unfurling and she began to stir.

She stirred rhythmically, her dragon's wings stirring up a wind that was neither too much nor too little, a breeze that was just enough to blow the smoke into the cave.

Time was ticking away, and for the moment, nothing had changed.

  "Hoo~"

The flames burned again all at once.

Watching the flames, Angela stopped moving her wings.

August tilted his dragon head to the side to look at Karel.

  "Karel, one more."

Hearing August's words, Karel opened his dragon's kiss and spat another small cold stream onto the fire.

The fire, which was just about to burst into flames, went out again and the smoke continued to rise.

What comes next is a bit more boring.

August added the wood, Angela fanned the flames and Karel controlled the fire.

After ten minutes of this repeated tossing and turning.

  "Squeak~"

  A subtle yelp came.

  August heard the voice.

Karel and Angela heard it as well.

After looking at each other, the three young dragons locked their eyes on the hole and their bodies plunged to the ground.

  "Squeak~"

  Another voice, louder this time.

The next moment, a black shadow scurried out of the hole, running directly away from the hole and not just burning smoke from the fire.

August, who had already built up his momentum, slashed at the black shadow as it tried to flee.

The dragon's claw smacked into him.

The black shadow was instantly silenced by a grab and a slap to the ground.

August also got a good look at the creature on the ground.

It was, in fact, a rat the size of a full-grown dog.

  "Squeak~"

There was no time to get a closer look at the otherworldly rat before August heard the same squeal again, and his fiery red vertical pupils instantly coalesced for a few more moments.

  I can't believe there's more!

Sight locked on the cave entrance.

Karel and Angela, who had also heard the sound, simultaneously showed exuberance in their gazes.

If it's just one rat, they'll probably starve and eat dirt, but if it's more than a few, how about August getting a share?
