Chapter 2 - The Encounter

Nellys pov

As we ate our meal, we talked about work, life, and our interests. I found myself opening up to Alexander, telling him things that I had never told anyone else before. He was a great listener, and I felt like we had a real connection.

But then, just as things were starting to get really interesting, the door to the restaurant opened and in walked a beautiful woman. She had long blonde hair, sparkling blue eyes, and a dazzling smile. It was clear that she was with Alexander, and my heart sank.

"Alexander, darling, I'm sorry I'm late," she said, walking up to our table.Alexander stood up and kissed her on the cheek. "No problem, Samantha. I'd like you to meet my new personal assistant, Nelly."

I stood up and shook Samantha's hand, feeling a bit awkward. "Nice to meet you," I said, trying to sound friendly.Samantha smiled at me, but I could see a hint of jealousy in her eyes. "So, Alexander, what are you two talking about?"

Alexander looked at me, then back at Samantha. "Just work stuff, honey. Nothing important."I felt a pang of disappointment as I realized that Alexander was already taken. Samantha and Alexander continued their conversation, but I found it hard to concentrate. I felt like I had been caught up in a fantasy that was never meant to be.

As the night wore on, I tried to focus on the conversation, but I couldn't help but feel a sense of loss. When we finally left the restaurant, Alexander dropped me off at my apartment and said goodnight. As I walked to my door, I couldn't help but feel like something had changed between us. Alexander had been so warm and kind to me, but now I felt like I was just another employee to him.I sighed and walked into my apartment, feeling a bit down. But as I was about to close the door, I heard a knock. I opened it to find Alexander standing there.

"I'm sorry, Nelly. I didn't mean to make you feel uncomfortable earlier."

I looked at him, feeling a mix of emotions. "It's okay, Alexander. I understand. You have a fiancée, and I'm just your assistant."He shook his head, looking at me intently. "No, Nelly. You're not just my assistant. You're someone special. I've never met anyone like you before."

I felt a glimmer of hope as he said that. "But what about Samantha? You're engaged to her."He looked away, a pained expression on his face. "I know. I care about her, but I don't love her like I love you. I tried to ignore my feelings for you, but I can't anymore."

I felt my heart racing as he said that. "Alexander, I don't know what to say."He took a step closer to me, looking into my eyes. "Say you feel the same way. Say you want to be with me."I looked at him, feeling torn. On one hand, I was attracted to him and wanted to be with him. But on the other hand, I knew that it was wrong to get involved with a man who was engaged to someone else.

"I can't, Alexander. I'm sorry. I can't be with someone who is already committed to someone else."He looked at me, his eyes pleading. "Please, Nelly. Give me a chance. I'll break it off with Samantha. I'll do whatever it takes to be with you."

I shook my head, feeling a sense of sadness. "I'm sorry, Alexander. I can't do that. It's not fair to anyone involved."He looked at me, his eyes filled with regret. "I understand. I just had to tell you how I feel. I hope we can still work together."I nodded, feeling a sense of relief that he understood. "Of course, Alexander. We'll still work together, and I'll do my job to the best of my ability."He nodded, looking at me with a sense of longing. "Thank you, Nelly. You're an amazing woman. I hope we can still be friends."

I smiled at him, feeling a sense of warmth. "Of course, Alexander. We'll always be friends."

As he walked away, I couldn't help but feel a sense of sadness. I had just experienced the highs and lows of love in a single evening, and it was overwhelming. But at the same time, I felt a sense of pride that I had stood up for my beliefs and done what was right.
