Chapter 5 - A Business Trip

Nellys pov

As Alexander and I boarded the plane to Paris, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement. I had never been to Europe before, and I was looking forward to exploring the city of love with him.

The flight was long, but we spent the time talking and getting to know each other better. As the plane began to descend, I felt a flutter of butterflies in my stomach. Paris was even more beautiful than I had imagined, and I felt like I was living in a fairy tale.Alexander had booked a room in a beautiful hotel overlooking the Eiffel Tower. The view was breathtaking, and we spent the evening enjoying a romantic dinner together. As we sipped champagne and talked, I felt like nothing else in the world mattered. After dinner, we went for a walk along the Seine River, hand in hand. The lights of the city sparkled around us, and I felt like I was in a dream. When we stopped at a small park, Alexander turned to me, his eyes full of emotion.

"Nelly, I know we've only known each other for a short time, but I feel like I've known you forever. I want to be with you, to make you happy, to share my life with you."I felt tears prick at the corner of my eyes as I looked up at him. "I feel the same way, Alexander. You make me so happy."He leaned in and kissed me softly, and I felt like my heart would burst with joy. We spent the rest of the night wrapped in each other's arms, talking about our hopes and dreams. The next morning, I woke up feeling happy and content. We had a busy day of meetings ahead of us, but I couldn't wait to explore the city more with Alexander.

But as we stepped out of the hotel, I saw someone I never expected to see. Samantha, my former best friend, was standing across the street, looking angry and hurt."Nelly, how could you?" she yelled, storming over to us.

I felt my heart drop as I realized what had happened. I had neglected to tell Samantha about Alexander, and now she had found out."Samantha, I'm sorry," I said, trying to calm her down. "I didn't know how to tell you.""How could you do this to me?" she said, tears streaming down her face. "We were supposed to be best friends. You knew how I felt about him."I looked at Alexander, feeling a sense of guilt. I had known that Samantha had a crush on him, but I never thought that anything would come of it."I'm sorry," I said again, feeling tears prick at the corner of my eyes. "I didn't mean to hurt you."

But Samantha was inconsolable, and she stormed off down the street. I felt a sense of sadness and regret wash over me. I had lost my best friend and hurt someone I cared about all because of my own fear and insecurity.Alexander put his arm around me, offering me comfort. "It's okay, Nelly. We'll get through this together."

I leaned into him, feeling grateful for his support. But I couldn't help but wonder if things would ever be the same again.Alexander and I spent the rest of the day exploring the city, visiting famous landmarks like the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre. I couldn't believe I was actually in Paris, a city I had always dreamed of visiting. It felt like I was living in a fairy tale.

As the sun began to set, Alexander took me to a fancy restaurant with a beautiful view of the city. We shared a bottle of wine and talked for hours, getting to know each other even better. It felt like we were the only people in the world, and I couldn't remember the last time I had felt so happy. After dinner, we walked back to the hotel, holding hands and enjoying the cool night air. When we reached our room, Alexander opened the door and led me inside. The room was lit by candles, and there were rose petals scattered across the bed.

I felt my heart race as Alexander turned to me, taking my hands in his. "Nelly, I know this may be sudden, but I just have to tell you how I feel. I'm falling in love with you."I looked at him, feeling my own feelings surge. "I'm falling in love with you too," I whispered.Alexander smiled, and then he leaned in to kiss me. It was a gentle, sweet kiss, but it sent shivers down my spine. I knew that I was exactly where I was meant to be.

The next morning, we woke up early and had breakfast in bed. Alexander had to attend a business meeting, so I spent the day exploring the city on my own. I visited art galleries, sat in cafes, and even went shopping for souvenirs. But as I was walking back to the hotel, I saw someone I never expected to see. Samantha.

She was standing on the street corner, her arms crossed over her chest. As soon as she saw me, she started walking towards me, her expression furious."Nelly, what the hell are you doing here?" she demanded.I felt my heart race as I tried to think of what to say. "I'm here with Alexander. He had a business trip, and he invited me to come along."

Samantha looked at me skeptically. "And you just happened to run into me?"I shook my head. "I didn't know you were here."Samantha looked at me, her eyes narrowing. "You know, Nelly, you're always so perfect. You always have everything handed to you on a silver platter. I'm sick of it."

I felt a wave of anger wash over me. "What are you talking about? I've worked hard for everything I have."Samantha snorted. "Please. Your parents bought your way into that fancy school, and now you're just living off of Alexander's money. You don't know what it's like to actually work for something."

I felt a sense of shame wash over me as Samantha's words hit home. Maybe she was right. Maybe I was just a spoiled rich girl who didn't deserve anything I had.But then I remembered all the hard work I had put in over the years. The late nights studying, the internships I had taken, the job offers I had turned down because they didn't align with my values."You don't know anything about me," I said firmly. "And I don't have to justify myself to you."Samantha laughed. "Oh, please. You're just like every other rich girl. You think you're better than everyone else because of your money and your connections."I felt my anger rising, and I knew that I needed to get away from her before things got out of hand. "I'm done talking to you, Samantha. Goodbye."

Alexander pov

Nelly looks at me with a disturbed expression as though she's considering her options. Despite her earlier remark, I expect her to easily accept my offer because I can tell that she is afraid of offending me.Finally, she says, looking resolute in her position, "I really don't think I'm suited to be your personal aide, Mr. Rodgers."

She doesn't appear amused when I lift my eyebrow in enjoyment at her lack of reaction. I incline my head in her direction and make a bewildered face."Nelly, explain to me why you believe that." I inquire, allowing a hint of sexiness to permeate my voice. She notices that I'm sort of testing the waters when her eyes widen almost imperceptibly. Although it's not the obvious response I was hoping for, it's plain that she understands what I'm trying to do. She turns her head away as her cheeks flush.I believe I won this internship after competing against thousands of applications. For the job, I'm overqualified.position you're presenting in its place, and to be honest, it's a little insulting that you want me to cave in so quickly," she says plainly.
