The sound of the door to the room she was hidden in colliding roughly with the wall sounded like a thunderstorm in her ears.
She shifted backward, her back against the closet wall, breathing heavily, her hands trembling.
The closet door flew open, and she screamed as loudly as she could. Remaining squatted, she covered her ears and squeezed her eyes shut.
Her heart thumped rapidly when she felt arms wrap around her and a hand cover her mouth, preventing further screams.
"Annabelle?" A voice, similar to Alvin's, called her name. She didn't open her eyes, fearing it was the headless soldier.
"Annabelle!" Her name was called louder this time. Her pale face turned toward the voice, and her eyes flung open, meeting those familiar blue eyes.
"A...Alvin? Is it really you?" she stuttered, struggling to believe he arrived in the nick of time.
