Chapter 9 - Shocking truth

Time passed, and he saw how many of the outer family kids looked at him with disgust on their faces while the inner family members simply ignored him.

[Something fishy here.]

[Hey Drake, let's observe quietly for now.]

He remained sitting, enduring the judging gaze. At this moment, Alex clapped his hands. 'Clap!'

"Okay, kids, go back to your seats."

The outer family members sat next to the inner family members they talked to, and this way, the area surrounding Drake became isolated, with no one around him.

Alex noted all of this and shook his head. "Sigh, you guys are surely following your family's instructions well. Whatever, but I am sure you will change after this lecture."

All the kids had confused looks on their faces. Alex ignored them and said, "Let me reintroduce myself. I am a mid-level 2 spirit wielder and an honorary commander under the Duisberg family."

"Spirit wielder!" "Spirit wielder!" "Ah, it's mid-level!" "What mid-level?"

This time, he could hear all the other exclamations. 'Alex must have stopped using that power.'

Alex continued, "Now, this is your special lecture 1. In this, I will start from the very basics of what's going on here, what spirit wielders are, and many other things. Along with them, I will tell you about the academy you are about to join. Let me tell you in advance, many of you may know the basics, but that knowledge is incomplete or wrong. So, listen to me carefully. The purpose of this special lecture is to give you guys a head start so you can do well in the academy."

"Tomorrow, we will have some seniors from the academy with us who will inform you about how things work in the academy. Does anyone have questions so far?"

No one said anything.

Alex nodded, "Good. Now, you must have known that everyone is born with mana potential, right? You must have taken the potential test at 13, right?"

"Yes, sir!" an enthusiastic kid said.

Alex nodded, "Okay, let me ask, does everyone know about the spirit seeds, mana affinity, and spirit potential?"

All the kids nodded their heads, but Drake raised his hand.

Alex looked at him. "Is there any problem?"

"I don't know about any of these things that you mentioned."

"What! Are you joking with me? Those are bare basic." Alex said, in doubt.

Drake shook his head. "No."

"Hey, why is this guy disturbing the class?"

"He is nothing but trash."

"If not for him being the son of the family head..."

"Come on, why do I have to deal with a criminal like him?"

Everyone around him started commenting on him.

"Everyone, be quiet," Alex turned to Drake. "care to tell me how much you know?"

Drake said in his monotonous voice, "I took the mana potential test at 13, and as I got medium potential, I am eligible to attend the academy. Also, what's a spirit wielder? I don't know what that is."

Complete silence filled the room, and everyone looked at him with their mouths wide open.

Alex stared at him with eyes wide open and asked, "Mana, potential test? medium potential? What's that? Didn't anyone tell you the true purpose of the potential test?"

Drake froze at this response. 'what is going on here?' He shook his head in denial.

Alex just stared at him, saying nothing. After a few minutes, Alex rubbed his eyes and asked, "it there anyone else who has no clue about the Spirit potential test or the things that I just mentioned?"

Silence. None of them said anything.

Alex nodded and looked back at him. "I cannot handle this."

He asked in confusion, "Is there any problem?"

Alex ignored him and said to the class, "Wait a minute, everyone," and rushed out of the class.

"Haha, look at this dork."

"Why is he even a part of the family?"

"He is nothing but an embarrassment to us."

"We should just kick him out of the family."

"I don't want to associate with him."

This time, all the inner family kids said one by one.

The silver-haired girl stood up at this time. "I don't want to waste my time because of a scum who forces others," saying that, she moved out of the hall, and others followed behind her, leaving him alone in the hall.

Drake remained sitting in the hall with the same poker face on his face, but his eyes were dull. It was almost like he was a sitting corpse.

Kane looked at this situation in shock. He could not believe everything going on around them. Just an hour ago, they got their freedom, only to find themselves isolated. He did not know what to make of this situation. Forget about him; he was more concerned about Drake. This guy was just sitting there with no response at all. He must have realized the dire situation they were in. Did this guy give up?

Kane tried to console him. [Hey, Drake, it's okay. Don't worry; you have me. We will get out of this situation.]

Drake gave no response to him.

[Oh, come on, say something. Damn it, don't give up so easily, man. At least give me total control.]

Kane got frustrated at this development.

Sigh, Drake looked up and just stared at the ceiling.

[Come on, dude, it's not like everything is over. At least we are out, right? Will you give up after going through all that? If you give up now, your stepmother will succeed in her plan. Are you giving up after enduring for 16 years?]

Drake closed his eyes, and his body started shaking a little.

Kane was at a loss for words. He didn't know what to do in this situation. 'Shit, he was only 16 after all.'

[We are doomed, damn it!.]

Drake opened his eyes at this moment, and there was no emotion in his eyes but emptiness.

Kane felt a little hope and continued to console, [Ah, no, man, there's still a chance.]
