Chapter 12 - The made up past

"What?!" It was very hard for him to hear about his death. He lost control and shouted.

[Whoa, calm down, dude.]

Drake paused, collecting himself, and asked with a gloomy face.

[I don't know the specifics, but your life in the academy will be very hard, as I told you. You are nothing but a small-time villain in the novel. You will get humiliated by the protagonist and then everyone ignores you and finally, at the end of the academy year, you will disappear. Most likely dying. But don't worry so much about that. We have future knowledge. We can use this to change the event.]

He did not respond to Kane. The news of his dying in the future was too much for him. At the start, he had many doubts about this novel thing, but the more he talked, the more he felt like Kane knew much more about the world than him.

'No, all of this makes me confused.' He refused to believe that he would die if not for Kane.' He started thinking deeply about all this.

Kane asked this time, [What are you thinking so deeply about?]

Kane paused, and the incident in the novel started going through his mind and said, [In the novel, Drake Duisberg was a scumbag that loves to molest girls for his entertainment. He even has a history where he got caught molesting his maid, which led him to get a light punishment. All of this came out when the little sister of that maid confronted Drake in the academy… ]

There was silence. Both of them remembered the looks outer family kids were giving him a moment ago, especially girls.

He rubbed his eyes,

[Damn it, your stepmother is scary dude. Forget about mana and other things. We will get many chances to learn about them. For now, let's find out about this Duisberg family and the exact situation we are in.]

He nodded and moved toward the gate of the hall.

[ Try your luck with the guards first.]

Knock, knock! He knocked on the door.

Creak!

Both doors got pulled open. He saw both guards standing there with the old man standing a little further from them.

One guard asked, "Do you need anything, sir?"

He looked at them and asked, "Do you know who I am?"

The guards tilted their heads, and one on the left said, "Sir, you are part of core families and are about to join the academy soon."

He shook his head. "No, not this. Do you personally know who I am?"

Both guards stared at him and shook their heads. He sighed and looked toward the old assistant standing a little further from him. He was expecting some information from the guards, but it looked like the old assistant was his last option.

Kane's voice came in, [Try telling your name first.]

He asked guards again, "Do you guys know about the Drake Duisberg?"

Both guards took a step back with wide eyes. The guard on the left was a little smart and bowed down. "Young master!"

The guard on the right followed him. "Young master!"

He smiled at this response. "no need to bow down. Both of you come inside. I need some help from you."

He went inside the hall, while both guards hesitated a little, but followed him.

He sat back in his chair while both guards stood in front of him. Interestingly, he found both of them shaking.

He asked them, "You guys, I have a few doubts. I need some help to resolve them."

The guard on the left was a quick one. "We will do our best to help the young master."

The right guard nodded.

He looked into their eyes and asked, "That incident must have caused an uproar in the family, right? Care to tell me a few things about them?"

Kane smiled at Drake's performance. The two years of training were showing its effect now. This question had the bare minimum of information that led everything to the imagination. In those two years, he trained Drake by using everything he learned from those psychological books, and it was worth it. He had a feeling that he was creating a beast, but who cares, 'hehe.'

Both guards gulped. The right guard said on impulse, "Sir, we don't know anything about that incident."

He nodded his head, "so you know what I am talking about."

The right guard stared mouth wide, "This no… "

He ignored him and looked at the left guard, who was frowning at his partner. "What about you? Did you also know nothing?"

The left guard bowed down to him. "Young master, talking about that incident is taboo for us."

He moved his eyes around. "I see no one here, though."

The right guard was about to say something when the left guard interrupted, "Young master, we believe in you and will try our best to help you. Can you tell us what you want to know?"

He interlocked his finger and rested his chin on the back of his palms. "I want to know how much you guys know about the incident, and I believe you will not try to hide anything."

Both guards nodded their heads and the left guard started, "Sir, it happened 3 years ago. I don't know the exact time, but it all started when one of your maids went to the city and started crying in the city market."

The right guard added, "We don't see the exact thing, sir. But we heard she set herself in the flames in the city market and died while screaming your name. That incident caused a tremendous uproar in the city. No one dared to protest, but many people started spreading rumors. It started by damaging your reputation, but later on, the rumor got out of hand and started damaging Duisberg's reputation."

The left guard continued, "To resolve the situation, the family head himself investigated the matter. We don't know the result of the investigation, but later on, we all heard that you love women, and it was indeed your fault." The left guard paused.

The right guard said, "We heard that the first lady herself took responsibility for punishing and guiding you to the right path. No one saw you from that day."

Both guards stopped.

He just looked down seeming lost in thought to others while he asked Kane,

[nah, all of that was a facade. They just use it as an excuse, I don't think anyone in the family will care much about that. But this incident sure degraded your reputation in the family as a lowlife who could not even handle little things. They were just using this incident as an excuse to target you.]

[Yeah, if not for the maid little sister part.]

Tak, tak!

He heard a knock on the door. Both guards tensed up.
