Chapter 16 - The Village Defense - Choosing A Champion

Faust then looks back to the chatroom…

The Lightning Chu was quick to express indignation.

"What is this woman saying!!! CHU!!! Of course, you need us,"

Martial God chimed in. "There's no such thing as enough strength. What a bad suggestion."

Eat to Be Stronger joined the conversation.

"Hey, newbie, why are you looking at this man? We've already called dibs. Find other people to be your champion."

The One That Brings Hope replied tactfully.

"Don't worry, I'm just checking out the interface. I'll look for others to be my champions."

Faust backed out of the chat room and started switching between different camera views, observing other players and their situations.

Meanwhile, in the forest, Circe was running for her life, her breaths coming in sharp gasps.

She finally took a moment to rest, leaning against a tree for support.

"My brother, they're dead for sure... What should I do now?"

"I don't want to go back to Asura and be treated like a prostitute, but where else can I go?"

" I don't have any special skills..."

Circe, lost in her despair, was suddenly startled by a notification.

['The One That Creates Hope' is looking at you.]

[He offers you to be his Champion. Do you accept?]

The words 'A Champion' echoed in her mind, igniting a flicker of hope in her eyes.

Without a moment of hesitation, she eagerly selected 'Yes.'

Immediately, another series of notifications popped up:

[Congratulations on becoming A Champion!!!]

[You have gained one level.]

[The One That Creates Hope bestows upon you the ability 'Iron Claw'.]

Circe read the quest details and felt a lump form in her throat.

"Infiltrate them? Can I really do that?"

[Tell them you've become a mutant; they will believe you.]

[If you cannot even do this, I will choose another champion.]

Circe's resolve hardened at the thought.

"No! I will do it!" she exclaimed, taking a deep breath to steady her nerves.

Her eyes reflected a newfound determination. 'I can do this, yes, I can,' she reassured herself.

'My brother died for me. If I give up now, his sacrifice will be in vain. And it's not the first time I've had to manipulate men.'

Meanwhile, Faust observed Circe's reaction through the screen with a smirk.

"She'll make a good pawn,"

Turning to Agony, he requested, "Agony, can you increase my points by another 50?"

"Sure," Agony responded.

With his points adjusted, Faust looks at the shop. He browsed through the list.

'So, there are four phases before they become real, requiring a massive amount of points – 116 million in total. '

'How exactly do they manifest into reality?' Faust pondered.

Turning to Agony. "Agony, can you dig up more information on this realization process?"

Agony closed its eyes for a moment.

After a brief pause, it shook its head. "No, I can't access detailed information. "

"I did find out that selecting those options would open up new channels in the network."

Faust rubbed his chin thoughtfully.

"Hmm, then it's better not to do that for now."

"They might find out we're probing into it. Also, hacking too many points might set off an alarm."

Faust glanced up at the timer in the sky, then began making his way back to the village.

He switched between different camera views on his interface as he walked, carefully avoiding key players to prevent alarming the other Imagin.

The screen shifted, focusing on one of the men who had been following Asura from the beginning.

Asura was seen lounging comfortably in a chair.

A couple of women were attending to him, one massaging his shoulders while the other tended to his legs.

Asura asked. "How's the hunt going? Do we have enough food yet?"

One of his men, sitting in another chair with a woman sitting on his lap, responded.

The woman's cheeks were flushed red, her eyes teary and filled with resignation, as the man's hands roamed over her.

"Only some have returned; the rest are still out there."

Asura nodded. "I see. Those who fail to meet the quota or return late should be sent to join the defense line."

"The rest of us will just hole the wall near our area."

The man, still preoccupied with the woman on his lap, asked. "And what about our plan?"

Asura replied. "We'll see the situation based on how much food we've gathered."

"Then we might consider negotiating some kind of exchange with Braxton to build more defense in our area."
