Rara sulked. She lay stretched across her magma bed staring at the ceiling. A void had opened in her heart. Lage had gotten Ni to keep her company and Kinntho had the boy. But who did Rara have.
Rara had gone from leader to loner.
She got tired of spending time alone in her room. The longer she was there the more angry she got. She wasn't interested in Kinntho's little friend. He wasn't really her type.
But Ni, Rara watched him and Lage from afar. His eyes shone so brightly when he looked at her sister. She felt her passion rising through her. She wanted him to look upon her like that!
The only problem was he never left Lage's side. She'd even noticed they shared Lage's room.
She got up from her bed and paced back and forth trying to think of how to get him away from Lage.
She suddenly smiled, she had an idea. A wicked idea.
She made her way outside and walked back to where they'd first seen Ni. There stood the small home Ni had made Lage. It was covered in beautiful flowers. As she stepped onto the grass it sizzled.
She stomped and the flowers wilted.
She closed her eyes and focused. She felt fire concentrating in her hand. She flicked her fingers and watched in delight as the fire leapt onto the home of trees. She was tempted to watch it burn and let herself feel her anger but she did something else instead.
She wiped some mud across her face and ran for the castle. She began to shout, "Kinntho! Come quickly!"
Ni was already on his way out, alarm in his eyes.
"Your house!" Rara gasped, "You've got to come now."
She ran ahead of him letting alarm pour out of her.
When they arrived it was smoldering. The flowers were all but gone.
Rara stopped in front of it, she let a few tears stream down her face, "I saw a figure come by here. A spirit!"
Ni narrowed his eyes, "A spirit of fire?"
"Yes, it set the house alight, I tried to put it out but I couldn't," She rubbed her face in her hands, "I'm so sorry."
"I don't know what you think you are doing," Ni said, "But I can feel this fire was no spirits."
Rara stopped abruptly, "Are you saying I did this!" Now she was angry.
Ni gave her a cold look, "I'm saying no spirit could have done this. That is all."
He bent to the ground and put his hands on it. Slowly life began to grow where the home had been. But the burnt wood remained in place. Around it, tiny trees took root as if to protect the structure. The flowers didn't come back.
Rara changed strategies, she sat down beside Ni, "You're right Ni, I did this, and I'm so sorry."
She leaned towards him so they were almost touching. She put a hand on his.
"I just wanted to see you." She whispered in his ear. She pulled closer, close enough to kiss him. "When I look into your eyes sparks fly in my soul. I would burn this planet for you if you asked. I love you Ni."
But Ni only got angrier, "It seems we have had a misunderstanding then." He pushed her away, "I have no interest in this Rara. I respect you as Lage's sister and that is all."
"Just think about it Ni," Rara pleaded, and this time she meant it.
Just then they heard footsteps, and Lage ran up to them. First, she looked at the house and let out a scream. Then she looked at Ni and Rara.
Ni ran over to her putting his arms around her. She sobbed as he rocked her back and forth. Around her, the flowers sprung back to life, as her tears hit the ground. Soon they were standing in a huge patch of tiny pink petals.
Rara listened to Ni whisper lovingly to Lage. Rara could see anger in his eyes. Somehow that only made him more attractive to her.
She longed to be the one he was holding.
She'd get him for herself, one way or another.
