Chapter 9 - chapter 9 : a heavy loss

The face-to-face between Merphis and Oswald was fraught with tension. Oswald, the charismatic leader of the extremist organization, observed Merphis with apparent calm.

Oswald's lightning speed left Merphis unresponsive, placing him in a vulnerable position. The leader of the extremists was now at his side, an imminent threat. A flash of steel cut through the air as Oswald attacked with deadly precision , Merphis' mask, which had preserved his identity until now, was cut off in an instant by Oswald's skillful blade. The face of Merphis, revealed in broad daylight, was now exposed to the view of the leader of the extremists. A glimmer of recognition crossed Oswald's eyes. Oswald, surprised, murmured: "I did not expect to find such an exceptional being under this mask. You are... Merphis, the dragon of Shibuya. Interesting. That explains a lot of things ."

Oswald's speed was astonishing, and before Merphis could react, the leader of the extremists was already behind him. Despite Merphis' attempt to block the knee strike, the force of the impact was such that he was propelled into a nearby building.

The collision shook the structure, but Merphis, resisting the pain, stood up with determination. The duel between the dragon and Oswald was reaching heights of intensity, with each decisive move potentially changing the course of this confrontation. The two fighters, Merphis and Oswald, charged forward again, their swords gleaming in the darkness. Their movements were quick and precise, creating a deadly dance among

The clash between the two adversaries was titanic, their swords clashing with devastating power. The resulting shockwave shook the surrounding area violently, causing massive damage. Cars thrown into the air, ruined buildings further destroyed, the clash between Merphis and Oswald was a display of raw power , The duel between Oswald and Merphis takes a turn when Oswald unbalances Merphis and delivers a powerful punch to his ribs, marking a critical moment in the fight.

Despite the violent blow, Merphis took it with determination and pulled herself together. Brandishing his sword, he charges Oswald, ready to retaliate with firmness. In the epicenter of the fight, Merphis, guided by unwavering determination, launches a fierce attack towards Oswald. However, Oswald's exceptional mastery allows him to skillfully block the oncoming assault. As Oswald prepares his response, Merphis demonstrates impressive ingenuity. Suddenly, behind Oswald, an imposing monolith of rock emerges, creating a striking lure. Oswald, deceived by this illusion, focuses on the false threat, believing in a new offensive. Taking advantage of this opportunity, Merphis throws a punch of superhuman strength. Oswald is thrown through five buildings, carried away by the devastating power of the attack. The scene demonstrates the fusion of Merphis' mastery of combat skills and strategic ingenuity.

In this intense moment, Griselda launches into a series of direct attacks against Maki, seeking to overwhelm him. However, Maki's nimbleness is evident as he skillfully dodges each assault from Griselda. Suddenly, Griselda channels dark energy, creating two sinister spheres which she projects towards Maki. While Maki does everything possible to avoid the attacks, Griselda performs a masterful maneuver. She suddenly appears behind Maki, transforming her hand into a sharp blade which she mercilessly thrusts into Maki's abdomen. The cry of pain echoes as Maki coughs up blood. Wasting no time, Griselda, with relentless force, violently throws Maki, momentarily sealing the fate of the fight.

Maki, exhausted but determined, gets up with an incredulous look fixed on Griselda. The tension between the two is palpable. Griselda, with calculated calm, explains to Maki the nature of her power. She reveals her ability to manipulate shadows, creating illusions of surprising complexity. With a smirk, she reveals the centerpiece of her arsenal: the ability to generate clones of herself, capable of transforming their limbs into formidable combat weapons. Maki's eyes widen at the revelation of Griselda's arcane power, paving the way for a new chapter in their confrontation. The real Griselda unleashes spheres of dark energy, propelling them towards Maki, while her clone, driven by calculated malevolence, continues the assault with slashing attacks from a distance. A sadistic smile appears on Griselda's face, revealing the satisfaction of her Machiavellian strategy. The battlefield becomes a sinister ballet of shadows and blades, where Maki finds herself confronted with a disconcerting duality, exacerbating the complexity of her challenge.

Maki, with impressive agility, manages to skillfully dodge the dark energy spheres. However, the situation takes a sharp turn when Griselda's clone targets Maki's already injured right foot, slashing violently. A howl of pain emanates from Maki who kneels from the impact. Taking advantage of this vulnerability, the clone transforms its arm into a colossal hammer, delivering a devastating blow that echoes across the battlefield. Maki's suffering reaches new heights as the fight takes on a relentless intensity.

Maki's body shows the merciless scars of battle, blood flowing from her mouth and eyes. She spits blood continuously, testifying to the violence of the attacks she suffered. Griselda's clone, with unmistakable cruelty, approaches and grabs Maki by the hair, lifting her up without the slightest mercy. The scene reflects the relentless cruelty of the fight, plunging Maki into a painful physical and mental ordeal. The real Griselda approaches majestically on a dark cloud she created, contemplating Maki's situation with contempt.

"Look how beautiful you look now, hahaha," she says sadistically.

Maki, remaining silent, stares into Griselda's eyes despite the blood-altered vision on her left side, tinged with scarlet.

Griselda continues with a cruel threat, "Don't worry, little one. You will have a long and agonizing death. I will torture you and drain every last drop of your blood." The tension reaches its peak as Griselda's sinister words hang in the air, foreshadowing a dark fate for Maki.

Griselda, sadistic, suggests starting by cutting off Maki's right arm. The clone, transforming his arm into a sharp sword, prepares to carry out this cruel sentence. Suddenly, a bolt of lightning tears through the sky and strikes the clone, causing it to violently disintegrate. Griselda, in shock, rushes away from the scene, disturbed by this unexpected intervention of lightning, which offers Maki an unexpected reprieve.

Griselda, stunned, asks the source of this sudden attack and scans the surroundings. However, Maki gets back up, some of her wounds miraculously healed. She calmly explains to Griselda her own involvement in the attack.

"Actually, I'm the one behind this sudden attack," Maki says.

Griselda, intrigued, asks Maki about the unexpected healing of some of her wounds.

"How come some of your wounds are suddenly healed?" Griselda asks.

Maki confidently replies, "Actually, I used the energy and impact caused by the lightning to heal myself. I reversed the effect of the lightning into a healing process, thus regenerating some of my injuries." The confrontation takes a new turn as Maki's powers prove to be more complex than expected.

Griselda notices Maki's remarkable resilience despite the damage inflicted.

"Normally, your body should not follow the use of your spells given the damage you have suffered," comments Griselda.

Maki calmly explains, "Normally, it's exactly that, but the problem here is that even though I took huge damage, I managed to regenerate the most significant injuries. All that's left are superficial and light wounds, I can easily use my spells now."

In a flash, Maki charges her body with electrical energy and rushes towards Griselda, armed with a katana. She attempts to slash Griselda directly, but the latter creates a shadow shield just in time to protect herself from the attack. The battle between these two adversaries reaches a new peak of intensity.

Griselda's sadistic laughter echoes as she expresses her growing pleasure in this unpredictable duel.

"It's becoming more and more interesting. It's more juicy to have an opponent who stands firm and surprises us than a common fly that we can torture over time. Killing you will be enormously satisfying, Maki."

Griselda makes sharp spikes emerge from the ground to reach Maki, but the latter skillfully dodges the attacks. Maki, by striking her sword against the ground, generates a slight spark from which emanates an intense glow accompanied by lightning. This blinds Griselda, allowing Maki to drive her katana into Griselda's abdomen before pulling it out. With a violent kick, Maki hits Griselda's neck and throws her against the wall. The dynamic of the fight takes an unexpected turn in Maki's favor.

Griselda, lightly touching her perforated abdomen, lets her finger be impregnated by the drop of blood that emanates from it. In an almost macabre gesture, she licks her own blood and comments, "Really interesting." Suddenly, an intense dark glow emanates from her. A powerful wave of energy envelops Griselda, a force so devastating that it destroys all surrounding buildings. The confrontation reaches a new level of power, suggesting an explosive outcome between the two adversaries.

The glow dims, revealing Griselda's true mythic power. The smoke clears to reveal an imposing 2 meter tall woman, striking green, with scarlet eyes. Her hair turns into a mass of undulating snakes. Griselda's mythic power manifests as "Medusa". The tension in the air intensifies as the true scale of the battle is revealed with this extraordinary metamorphosis. With surprising speed, Griselda grabs Maki's head and crushes it violently to the ground before lifting her up, holding her head like a macabre trophy. Then, with disproportionate force, she throws Maki's head like a baseball across the city. The violence of the attack testifies to the formidable power of Griselda's mythical power, leaving the shadow of a dark outcome hanging over the battle.

Maki, thrown 300 meters from the place of combat, struggles to get up. However, Griselda, with supernatural speed, grabbed her by the foot before she could even react. Lifting her with disconcerting ease, Griselda flashes a demonic smile, revealing a mouth full of sharp teeth and bright red eyes. The looming threat weighs heavily on Maki, faced with the relentless power of Griselda in her mythical form.

As Griselda was about to devour Maki, the latter used her lightning spell to electrocute Griselda's mouth and hair. The pain makes Griselda scream and she releases Maki. Thrown 5 meters from Griselda, Maki calls out to her opponent.

"Your mythical power is Medusa. You should be able to turn people into statues with your gaze. How come you haven't done it yet?" Maki asks.

Griselda responds in a terrifying and startling voice, "I can turn anything I wish into a statue. I can choose which target to transform. And I have decided to keep this power in reserve, using it when needed. For Right now, I really don't need it."

Maki unleashes a huge blast on Griselda, who dodges the attack but instantly moves towards Maki. Griselda grabs him and gives him her own full attack. Griselda's speed is exponential, accomplishing all of this in a few mind-boggling moments. Maki screams in pain and collapses, leaving the shadow of imminent defeat looming.

Meanwhile, Azaku comes face to face with Ha'arm, a mysterious being whose only luminous green eyes are visible. Azaku begins hostilities by launching an attack with his enormous hammer. However, Ha'arm, remaining motionless, throws Azaku several hundred meters with a simple touch of his forehead, demonstrating phenomenal strength ,

Despite his mortal wound and the consequent loss of blood, Azaku does not give up. He grabs his hammer and spins it around, creating two balls of white energy that absorb everything in their path. Taking advantage of this opportunity, Azaku encloses himself in a protective field made of wind element alchemy to ensure his safety. A demonstration of determination and alchemical skill in the face of adversity.    The energy balls that Azaku created absorb everything in their path: cars, rocks, buildings, even a few lifeless bodies. However, Ha'arm, lightly touching the ground, causes a huge spike of earth to emerge from under Azaku which embeds itself into his shoulder. The pain is so intense that Azaku loses control, his powers dissipating. Faced with this skillful attack, the battle takes an unfavorable turn for Azaku.

Despite the blood loss and lingering pain, Azaku gets up, coughing up blood, ready for one last attack. Picking up his hammer again, he puts heavy pressure on his aura, creating bursts of whiplash with his weapon aimed at Ha'arm. However, weakened by blood loss, the attack fails to reach Ha'arm and dissipates before it even arrives. Nevertheless, Azaku does not lose hope and persists in his hand-to-hand confrontation against Ha'arm. Azaku's determination remains unwavering in the face of adversity.  Ha'arm speaks in an enigmatic voice, saluting Azaku's courage while announcing the inevitable destiny that awaits him. Azaku, interrupted in his response, suddenly collapses, his eyes raised to the sky. The warrior has given up the ghost.

Ha'arm, with his power of materialization and the eyes of the mummies, understood the alchemical nature of Azaku. He materialized Azaku's heart from a distance before crushing it with his hands, thus sealing the fate of the valiant fighter. The mythic power of Ha'arm, "the cursed Pharaoh," has left its implacable mark on the battlefield.

Merphis feels the sudden disappearance of Azaku's aura and understands that the latter has given up the ghost. Immeasurable anger takes hold of him, unleashing devastating power. A destructive wave forms, ravaging everything in its path. Astonishment can be seen on Oswald's face at the surge of power unleashed by Merphis. Events take an even darker turn with the loss of Azaku, and Merphis' furious reaction heralds an unforgettable confrontation.

Merphis' eyes suddenly transform into a reptilian appearance, similar to those of real dragons. The yellow of his eyes is accentuated by a bright red tint within. Without warning, Merphis lunges at Oswald, grabs him by the neck, and crushes him against the ground. Then, grabbing her foot, he sends her crashing into a building. His astonishing speed leaves Oswald with little chance to react. In a flash, he slices Griselda in two, grabs Maki from her back and runs away.

Despite its power, Merphis cannot afford to suffer further losses. Fleeing at incredible speed, the three leaders of the extremists follow him. That's when Merphis uses her invisibility spell, hiding in the darkness with Maki. Thanks to this spell, they become invisible to the eyes of extremists who take another route. Merphis observes Maki, unconscious and covered in injuries, including her right foot petrified by Griselda's attack. The situation remains tense, but Merphis has momentarily escaped pursuit.  Merphis, wasting no time, flies away with Maki in her arms, heading towards their lair to tend to Maki's wounds and deliver the tragic news that has occurred. The mist of the battle and the losses suffered leave a dark atmosphere over their journey. The fate of the protagonists seems more uncertain than ever.
