The carriage rumbled along the winding road; the girls nestled comfortably inside as they continued their conversation.
"So, Katrin," Ruby began, a mischievous twinkle in her eyes. "What is with the mark on your neck?"
Katrin's cheeks flushed crimson as she instinctively reached up to cover the bruise with her hand. "Oh, um, I do not remember. It's probably nothing." she stammered, her voice barely above a whisper.
Aeliana leaned in closer, a teasing grin on her lips. "Nothing?" she echoed; her eyebrows raised suggestively. "It looks like something to me."
Katrin bit her lip nervously, feeling the weight of their curious gazes on her. "Well, uh, you see..." she trailed off, unsure of how to explain.
