Katrin stood at the kitchen sink, her hands submerged in warm, soapy water as she scrubbed the dishes clean. The rhythmic sound of water splashing and plates clinking filled the air, a comforting backdrop to her thoughts.
Suddenly, the back door burst open, and Katrin's older sister, Malissa, stormed into the kitchen, her face flushed with anger. Behind her Ruth followed, tears streaming down her cheeks as she struggled to keep up.
"Malissa, how could you do this to me?" Ruth sobbed, her voice breaking with emotion. "He was my boyfriend, and now he's gone!"
Malissa rolled her eyes, her expression unrepentant. "Oh, please, sister," she retorted, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "He was a fool to be with you in the first place. I did him a favor."
Ruth's cries grew louder at her sister's callous words, her shoulders shaking with grief. "How could you say that?" she wailed, her voice trembling with hurt. "He loved me, Malissa. He actually loved me!"
