Chapter 36 - Am I too late

Ronald looked toward Lilliam's horse and saw the medium-sized bag on its back.

"So you came prepared. Do you bring that thing everywhere you go?"

"Only if I feel it's necessary," Lilliam replied.

"It's a relief we don't have to worry about food and other supplies."

Ronald nodded appreciatively and redirected his gaze toward the unknown figure.

"Wait, how come I didn't hear your footsteps?"

He looked back, displaying a puzzled expression on his face.

"What do you mean, sir? I've always been beside you," Lilliam also replied with a equel puzzlement.

"You did?"

"Yes, sir."

"Are my senses getting dull?" thought Ronald, doubting himself.

"Sir, he's moving." However, Lilliam's remark turned his attention back toward the unknown figure.

Due to the position of the sun and the darkness of the forest, the two of them could only see the person's silhouette. They couldn't make out any other details, including facial features.

"It's moving towards our way," Ronald noticed the change in direction and spoke.

"What do we do, sir?" asked Lilliam.

"Let's wait a bit and observe it," Ronald suggested. Both of them focused their full attention on the figure.

The figure had a human-like appearance and seemed to be approaching their location. As it moved forward, it raised one of its hands, and then they noticed the sword it held.

"A sword," Ronald muttered.

"Is it an enemy?"

"Do something, sir. It's clearly coming toward us," Lilliam exclaimed, uneasily.

"Calm down. Did you forget we are knights too?"

Seeing the anxious Lilliam, Ronald spoke.

"AGH, sorry, sir," Lilliam replied, regaining his composure.

"Wait, did you really forget?"

"Anyway, wait until he comes close to us; we'll see what happens after," he said, looking back toward the figure.

But this time, the figure began to run toward them. Holding a sword in one hand, he looked like he was coming for an assault.

"Seems like trouble. Draw your sword, Lilliam. I'll leave this to you."

"Yes, sir." Lilliam unsheathed his sword and moved his horse a bit forward, passing Ronald.

But as he did, suddenly,

"Rooar!"

A huge, loud scream reverberated through the forest, stunning Ronald and Lilliam.

"Oh, shit"

"Lilliam, jump!" and from behind, Ronald screamed.

With the heart-freezing scream and the shouting from Ronald in the back, Lilliam became stunned for a moment. However he managed to look back at Ronald and saw his fearful expression. Then, he looked up.

Falling toward him is a huge creature, and this is the source of the terrifying scream he heard before.

Quickly, he jumps off from the horse, avoiding the creature's ambush.

Boom!

It falls to the ground with a powerful force, stirring up a huge amount of sand and dust from the ground, covering the whole area in dust.

"Liliam," Ronald called out worriedly, trying to locate him in the thick dust cloud.

"I'm all right, sir. You don't have to worry," an answer came from Lilliam, but it was unclear in which direction he was.

Khff! Khff!

Because of the dust Ronald began to cough.

He turned his horse around and prepared to leave the area to catch his breath.

But then, in front of him through the dust, he saw two shining red glows.

And the next moment, they disappeared, and the next instant, they appeared.

"So you're here, I've been looking all over for you," Ronald spoke, as if talking to a friend.

"Grhh," the creature in front of him grumbled, and at that moment, Ronald heard the sound of the wind.

He quickly jumped away from the horse's back, and as he did, his horse got hit by something that looked like a club and was cast away at high speed.

"You b*stard," Ronald uttered as he grabbed his sword. But the two glows emitting from the creature's eyes disappeared again.

"Not good," he heard the rumbling sound of the wind and leaped backward.

As he did, the club-like object swung in front of him, and he narrowly evaded it.

"If I fight here, I'm at a disadvantage."

Due to the dust, his vision of the enemy was blurred, so he decided to escape. He pulled out his sword, holding it in one hand. Lifting it, he focused his aura toward it, and the next moment, it began to glow with a dark brown color.

"Taste on this!" He swung his sword toward the dust, aiming in a random direction where he thought the creature might be.

And In a one of the single swing, he heard something moving back in the dust. Seizing the moment, he turned around and ran, quickly disappearing into the dust.

"My guess is right, he really waiting there to ambush us, good thing it failed,"

While running Ronald muttered to himself.

"Now have to find lilliam and get out of here, hope I can find him before that thing does," he said as he looked toward the dust that was blocking his vision.

"Hmm, there a still lot of it, is it stir up dust from the ground?"

Noticing the growing dust in the area, he wondered.

"Noo," but a sorrowful cry reverberated throughout the area at that moment, and Ronald quickly recognised to whom it belong to.

"Lilliam!" He became increasingly anxious.

"am I too late?"

He turned his direction toward the area where he thought the scream came from and ran toward it.
