Chapter 20: What's Wrong With Leona?
After defeating Leon and having Yuki's engagement canceled, Itachi returned to the demon kingdom.
A few weeks had passed since then, and an engagement party was organized. The citizens of the demon capital gathered to celebrate the engagement of their king.
It was a joyous occasion, with music, feasting, and festivities that painted the city with an air of celebration.
Yuki and Itachi stood in front of the unholy Priestess, exchanging engagement rings as a symbol of their commitment to each other.
The ceremony was filled with anticipation, as the union between them was not only a business proposal but also a symbol of unity.
With the engagement sealed, Itachi was finally able to adopt Leona, the young girl he had found at an orphanage who he had grown to care for deeply.
As he sat on the couch with Leona resting her head in his lap, he gently brushed her hair with his hand, watching her peaceful slumber. The bond between them had grown strong, and Itachi was proud to call her his daughter.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door, and someone entered Itachi's office. It was Yuki, who had brought snacks for Leona. She placed the snacks on the table and took a seat.
"How are you doing, Yuki?" Itachi asked with concern.
"I'm doing fine," Yuki replied, her expression a mix of weariness and determination.
"Are you sure?" Itachi asked, noting the fatigue in her eyes.
Yuki sighed, her shoulders slumping slightly. "Well, since we're now engaged, I have to attend noble parties and all that... I'm tired," she said softly.
Itachi smiled.
Just then, Leona woke up, rubbing her eyes and yawning.
"Good morning, Daddy, Mommy," Leona greeted them with a sleepy smile.
Yuki couldn't help but giggle and said, "It's 4 PM, Leona."
Itachi voiced his concern, saying, "You've been sleeping way too often, my daughter.
Are you feeling alright?"
Leona reassured him with a smile, "I'm fine, Papa."
Despite Leona's reassurance, Itachi couldn't help but worry.
Itachi: We should take you to the doctor just to be sure.
With a gentle lift, Itachi cradled Leona in his arms and made his way to the doctor's office.
Upon reaching the enigmatic doctor's office, Itachi gently placed Leona on the examination table, and the doctor began to examine her.
"I've never seen something like this before," the doctor admitted, his brows furrowed in deep concern.
Puzzled, Itachi asked, "What is it?"
The doctor hurried to his bookshelf, searching through volumes of ancient texts until he found the book he was looking for.
He skimmed through the pages, searching for something similar to Leona's condition.
"What does it say?" Itachi asked, growing increasingly anxious.
The doctor's response left them both bewildered. "Do you believe in dragons?"
Itachi turned to Yuki, who explained,
"Dragons are mythical creatures that fly and breathe fire, but dragons are extinct. The last dragon belonged to the first demon king."
The doctor continued, "Well, your daughter is hibernating."
Itachi was taken aback. "How can she hibernate?"
The doctor clarified, "From what I know and what I've just observed, your daughter Leona is from the dragnoid clan."
Yuki interjected, "That's impossible."
The doctor nodded, acknowledging the rarity of the situation. "It is, but it's what it is."
Curious, Itachi asked, "Why is it impossible, and what's the dragnoid clan?"
"The dragnoid clan is a race of dragons that take the form of humans but can transform back into dragons whenever they feel like.
However, they are believed to be extinct." Yuki explained.
Determined to find answers, the doctor promised, "I'll do some more research, my lord."
Itachi carried Leona to his room and gently placed her on the bed to let her sleep, a sense of helplessness clouding his thoughts.
Yuki turned to him, concerned. "What will we do?"
Itachi contemplated for a moment.
Yuki: Soooo.
Itachi: Let's take a trip to the human realm.
Yuki: Itachi, I'll stay here and manage the demon kingdom in your absence. You should bring along a knight with you.
Itachi: Okay.
Yuki: I'll make the arrangements for you.
Itachi: Good.
Itachi leaned down and gently kissed Leona on the forehead, before leaving her in Yuki's care.
Itachi left the room and head straight outside where he meets up with a young knight name Paige.
Itachi and Paige met at the castle's stables, where they prepared their horses for the expedition. The decision to ride horses instead of taking a carriage allowed them to move swiftly and discreetly through the human realm, avoiding any unnecessary attention.
