Chapter 9 - Ch-8: Meeting The Family [2]

[Viria's POV]

I was surprised by how Arthur brought Jarien here out of nowhere. The fact that he acted casual and calm as if nothing happened followed by the food was a bit unexpected.

But I noticed the hesitation and cluelessness on Jarien's face and remembered this was how he was before his awakening and how carefreely he lived.

Everything after his awakening was weird, I still love him the same but he changed after that event and it aches my heart now that I look at how haggard his current state is.

I wanted to scold Arthur who brought him here without even giving him a chance to take a bath to relax himself. But I was stopped by Jarien's stomach grumbling and looking at his embarrassed expression made me smile.

Yes, this is how it used to be, after all he is still a child, why should he care about other stuff? I saw Jarien hurriedly wolfing down the food and it made me almost chuckle if not for Davin about to scold him.

I glared at him to shut up and just let Jarien eat. When I looked back at Jarien, I saw him looking at me through his eyes and his genuine smile caught me off guard as it's been so long since I last saw him genuinely smile. Not the perfunctory ones that he passed but his genuine smile. I just smiled back at him and no one spoke about the recent evet at all till dinner ended.

[Jarien's POV]

I suddenly saw my mother smile, which confused me but I couldn't figure it out. Maybe because she saw me eat my fill? I don't know nor can I solve every curiosity of mine.

Besides, I had no time, I was busy observing all the people in the room. Especially Evelyn and Nathaniel.

My mother, Viria Dawner, was a beautiful and loving mother with platinum silver hair reaching her waist along with silver eyelashes cascading her amethyst-purple eyes which had goldish-sacred hue with jade-white skin that complimented her hair. She was a mage so her body wasn't muscular but she stood at 180 cm which was taller than me in my previous life.

My father, Davin Dawner, was a handsome father with shining black hair and black eyes with crimson hue like a demon contrasting his pale face. He had a well-built body typical of a swordsman with a height of 208 cm.

My grandfather, Nathaniel Dawner, stood at 210 cm with grey hair that showed his age to be in fifties but he was well over 60. He had crimson-red eyes mixed with black, a trait that turns our eye colour red due to the bloodline ability alongside pale-white skin. He stood at 210 cm.

My brother, Arthur Dawner, was 21 and he looked like Davin like a replica except his eyes were purple with a reddish hue and his height was 204 cm, a bit shorter than father.

My sister, Evelyn Dawner, was 14 so she looked like a young Viria, except she had shorter hair with goldish-orange tendrils along with her supple cheeks and her black eyes with golden-purple hue and her facial structure being a mix of my parents. She was also a mage just like my mother and she was shorter than me with a height of 150 cm.

Lastly, I was 14 too, with a height of 160 cm and I had orangish golden hair with some parts being black and platinum silver along with one purple eye with goldish hue and one black eye with reddish hue. Yep, I had both their traits and hence my charm was unique or exotic which made me feel as if my previous life was trash in front of these looks.

Well, this was how the Dawner family was introduced in the novel and I added my memories to mark them and their features lest I forget this too and mess up as I had a hard time remembering faces making me wonder if I was face-blind but I never checked.

While observing and enjoying a silent dinner, where no one spoke, I especially liked it and felt calm though I could see the awkwardness on everyone's faces as they always chatted during dinner.

It's kind of a tradition in this family to eat dinner together unless someone is in a dungeon raid and it is for the family to spend time with each other. So, kind of a forced event but it does keep their family together.

It worked ever since the history of this family, but I find it annoying that even in a fantasy setting, we can't have personal maids or butlers except for the heir. There are maids and butlers who help us with everything but they are arranged by the head butler and head maid as mother and father already appointed the heads.

Well, I created this setting to remove extra characters and ease out my way but turns out it became a profound setting, where for this first time, a child of the family head tried killing the heir of the family by getting instigated by his maid so the family head of then placed a rule of no personal maid and butler to prevent it from happening again as it caused bloodshed inside the family which weakened them lest they would've been the Grand Duke and not the Lionheart family.

*Cough...cough*

My thoughts were broken by my father coughing and gaining attention.

"Jarien, after dinner go and clean, then come to the main office. Understood?" called out Davin, my father. I looked at him, blinked and just nodded and continued eating as I was still hungry.

Evelyn didn't like this and said "Brother are you not going to answer father properly?" with a smile which was not quite a smile as it did not reach her eyes.

I merely looked at her and turned back to Davin and said "Alright dad. I'll be there". These simple words shocked everyone as I talked casually like the old Jarien and not formally like the children of elite families do to put up a pretence.

Viria stopped Evelyn from saying anything and started a conversation with Arthur with Davin contributing and creating plans for their next raid and some guild related matter which I ignored.

Honestly, I felt uncomfortable because Nathan was silent throughout because his personality wasn't like this but he didn't speak even after the dinner ended. After which, I returned to my room to finally take a relaxing bath which also gave me a chance to solidify and restructure my plan properly.
