"Hello Annie, my name is Victor Withworth, you can call me Vic. Let's start from the beginning. What are you? And while you are at it you may as well tell why are you here?"
Annie snaps her fingers and a tree starts to grow from the ground and quickly forms a chair. She sits in it and starts to speak.
"Please make yourself comfortable this will take a while. In order to answer your question, I will start with what happened to your planet and then I will arrive at the answer to your question so you understand what I am talking about." She spoke with a smile.
We relaxed and sat down on our sleeping bags. Eager to listen to what she has to say.
"What happened to this planned is so called awakening. It is something similar to what happens you after you first kill a monster. Every time somebody dies on the planet, planet absorbs part of its mana before soul proceeds to the afterlife and is sorted. But since before awakening people on the planet have very little mana this process is very slow planets requires millions of years to absorb enough mana to awaken. When that happens, the planets receive its first skill. Unlike with people first skill that planet gets is always the same. It receives the skill to teleport unintelligent monsters from far away planets to itself, in order to promote killing and strengthening the populace. What in turn allows the planet to gain more mana and rank up. When this happened to this planet it teleported here huge number of ghouls and some gnolls. Which barely fit into unintelligent category." She paused and looked at us after a little moment she continued. "You were lucky with ghouls, they are lowest rank monsters you can find, they are slow and clumsy. Them being able to infect people is a little drawback but for the most part they are easy to manage at the beginning. They are only problematic if they are able to prosper and gain enough ranks. As for gnolls they are entirely different can of worms. They tend to be problematic for new planets but since there is enough ghouls to level up off the situation on the planet should be fine. Once this happened planet distributed a system to every being intelligent enough to handle the system on their own. While planet is managing it for the rest of beings in here. Do you understand now?" She asked.
We all nodded. "So, the planet broke thought and gained it's first skill just now. So, that's the reason for the monster appearing and everything going to shit?" I spoke.
"Pretty much, yes. But to prevent newly awakened planets from being overwhelmed there are meant to be teleported bunch of intelligent beings with jewelry that allows them to communicate with locals. They are meant to educate and help intelligent beings of the planet at the start. Unlucky for you the beings that were transferred here are orcs, beings barely intelligent to manage their status and very tribal ridden and with warmonger attitude as you already noticed. These were teleported here by the senate. But don't blame the senate please, there are rules that the beings from closest planet had to be chosen. You were just unlucky that those were orcs." She took a deep breath and looked at us and before we could ask, she continued. "Now that you understand what is going on, we can move to what is the senate. It the group of 12 beings, leaders of 12 strongest organizations that overlook this part of the universe. They noticed that the planet had newly awoken and proceeded according to rules they made for each other. That being, teleport several groups of intelligent beings with option to communicate to here so they can help you with the initial shock. As I mentioned you were very unlucky on this one. Everything clear up to here?" She asked.
We all nodded and she continued.
"After this representative of each of the 12 groups is selected and sent to observe the planet. They are a lot of rules regarding this that I won't bore you with but in short, we receive records of the planet, it's culture and other information. Plus, we receive a way to communicate with locals. We are not allowed to directly interfere with fighting but what we can do is scout promising individuals that we can guide and once they reach specific class rank teleport them to our home planet. Think of it like something similar to drafting in NHL. And I am one of the representatives. Group I represent is call Wishing star in your language. Understood? Any questions? "
"One question." I spoke. "Those two questions you asked me before and that light after that, it had something to do with those rules?"
She looked into my eyes and spoke. "Yes exactly. I needed to confirm that you don't want to be planet overlord before drafting since we cannot claim the planet since our territory is too far away from here. We can just scout individuals as the overlord joins faction with the planet. There are two groups that are neighboring this planet that will be looking for overlord candidates to scout and support them in order to gain the planet together with them."
"So, you are planning to watch two camps here on earth wage a war for the Overlord spot and let ton of people die?" I spoke.
"Look it's the most peaceful way to do that, before we had this rule the two factions would appear directly here and wage war for the planet with original occupants in crossfire of those two. Awakened planets are very important, and every group wants a piece of pie, you were just unlucky that you are on the border of the two, if the planet would be firmly in territory of one of them then they would be the only one capable of looking for overlord. And planet needs overlord, if the planet lacks overlord for a long time it can bring a lot of tragedies to the planet. It becomes unstable and desperate for overlord,and that tends to bring a lot of catastrophes."
