The night was dark, but the moonlight shone its fluorescent rays on the sea below it. Its beauty from beneath the surface of the sea attracted the two mythical figures swimming underneath... Who were of male and female gender as it showed on their upper body.
A fishes tail and the upper body of a human.
Since it was so late at night, the female of them had suggested that they go to the surface for the first time and see how it looks.
Of course, it was so late. They had not expected anyone out by this time, so the other agreed.
Accompanied by some sea creatures who always hovered around them, they swam to the surface.
As mermaids in the sea hierarchy, they proved to be a threat to other sea creatures just as other sea creatures were a threat to them. But despite the hierarchy, just as other sea creatures were friendly to humans, they were also some who were friendly to the mermaids and often hung around them... mostly dolphins and baby whales.
The two were about to emerge from the depth of the water when they saw the silhouette of a boat from beneath. Alarmed, they quickly swam away, but curiosity got the better of the female, and she swam back up, wanting to emerge once again. The closer she got to the surface, the more worried the other was.
Suddenly a net was cast into the water and before it could reach the other and trap her, the male quickly swam and pushed her away, ending up being the one who was caught in the net.
His face contorted, and he cried as he tried to get out of the thick net, which stung his scales. The other tried to swim away while pulling the net along so it could cut, but it was a fruitless effort. Before she could think of any other thing, the net was already being hauled up by the people in the boat she panicked and tried pulling on the net harder, which only caused more discomfort for the male. He cried again and flailed as he was being pulled out of the water. The female held his hands in hers as a gesture, which meant she would not leave him alone and didn't let go until he was finally pulled out of the sea and onto the boat.
Not wanting to let her partner go, she got an idea of sinking the boat.
If the boat sunk, that meant the male would be back into the water, and they would be able to escape together.
With her special abilities, she controlled the creatures around them so they could flip the boat over end and try capsizing it.
The humans, having realised the threat, had begun to move the boat, and it moved at a high speed. The mermaid still didn't want to give up, so she went after it in her full speed, too, hoping to catch up with it.
She was already feeling weak when, thankfully, the boat finally came to a stop at the shore... She has never been to the shore, and she knew that it was dangerous hanging around, but she was willing to do it for the person who was caught in there, trying to save her.
They tried capsizing the boat once again and were almost successful until more humans started coming up to the dock. It was becoming more and more dangerous to stay there, so she had to retreat before she was caught too. And if she was caught, what the other mermaid had done to save her would go in vain. She needed a new plan if she wanted to save him, but there was nothing she could think of, so she had to come clean to his family.
She went back into the darkest part of the sea between the cliffs, corals, and long seaweeds to the area where mermaids and mermen occupy, their territory.
Mermaids didn't know how to speak English except those who had been on land before, mostly the elders, and if not, they communicated using songs just like whales and sirens did.
The female seeked out Kai's mother and explained the situation to her... As soft-hearted as his mother was, she didn't blame the mermaid for anything that had happened and thanked her for coming to tell her straight. She wasn't angry but she was worried, worried about her little boy and what humans might do to him.
Without wanting to waste any more time, she summoned his two brothers, Vance and Vladimir, and sent them out to shore to find their little brother.
It wouldn't prove hard since it won't be the first time of them going there.
Hearing that Kai had been kidnapped by humans and being the dotting brothers they were, they were devastated and immediately set out to look for him and they would do anything in their power to get him back home and safe too.
The boat that the mermaid attacked earlier had sunk, and commotion had died down, which made the crowd by the beach disperse. When the surface was clear of any human or any threat, Vance and Vladimir emerged from the sea in their human form with one aim in mind.
