Chapter 29 - Chapter 28: Protagonist (2)

'So, this world's storyline stays true to the novel, but it is the adapted version of Woo Jihyuk's game?'

Arthur continued to ignore Count Rubel who was talking all sorts of things. Then he realized there was something strange about the protagonist's summoning.

"Hey, I'll catch up with Dean. You stay here and when Cindy is free, you must strengthen her heart. Okay, I'm off!"

That man looked like he was in a hurry to leave. Count Rubel cursed a little because Arthur was so rude to leave him. He wanted to go back to sleep, but remembered what Arthur and Crown Prince Xavier had said earlier.

"Wait a minute, the rescue squad from K-Night was captured?" Count Rubel wanted to get up from his place. However, he still didn't have much energy.

He cursed, "Damn, these lame legs."

Not long after that, Count Rubel was able to stand up properly. He tried to walk step by step. His body seemed to be drained because basically, mana is the energy inside and when it enters one's body, it already becomes one's energy. Hence, Count Rubel's body strength was drained.

He realized that the place was a rest room reserved for the inner staff. Count Rubel was still inside the theater building.

As he stepped out of the room, there were two knights standing guard at the door. They were both immediately surprised by the appearance of Count Rubel who was already fine.

"Where are my men?" Count Rubel asked them while holding onto the wall to carry him.

One of the two knights replied, "Still being interrogated in the basement, Count-nim."

The basement was used to store stage props. There was clearly a replica of the prison there. CountHe thought they would try to hold them back with the property. Rubel asked the two knights to take him there.

During the walk, he met a lot of knights. There were some nobles who were still resting and were given medicine for their wounds.

"You! It's all your fault!"

A nobleman who was known to be a count as well by Count Rubel, pointed right at his face. He is an old man had a bandage wrapped around his forehead.

"You're the one responsible for this incident! Summoning of the demon race? You're crazy!" The count threw his handkerchief at Count Rubel.

Count Rubel wanted to speak, but was already preempted by someone else. Someone with a higher position than him and from the same faction.

"Don't be like that, Count Clark. Count Rubel is young and not used to being in charge of big events. We must also not know that there are people who are taking advantage of this situation to summon the demon race."

The old man with a sturdy posture, calmed down the Count Clark. He had dark gray hair like clouds. Count Rubel knew who this person was.

Marquis Zen Hemlock, one of the upper nobles who supported the Crown Prince. He smiled kindly at Count Clark, then turned to face Count Rubel.

"Count Rubel, are you doing well? I heard His Highness' personal healer is helping you." Marquis Hemlock greeted kindly.

When Count Rubel wanted to greet politely, Marquis Hemlock stopped him. "No, it's okay. What brings you here?"

This time, the knight accompanying him also helped him answer. "Count Rubel wants to visit the guards he hired. They are all giving statements in the lower room."

"Did you hear that, Count Clark? Count Rubel even hired new guards instead of relying on the knights. I don't mean to disparage the royal knights. However, his workers also double as guards and staff. That's good."

Count Rubel did not know what the motives of the Marquis Hemlock who was currently defending him were. During the gathering of the nobles, let alone for his faction, Marquis Hemlock seemed to be the most uncaring person.

"I'll take my leave. Some of my people over there must not be very good at giving information." Count Rubel asked the two knights to continue their journey to the dungeon.

It was only a few steps before they reached there. He could see that the stairs downstairs were a little dirty because a lot of things had been moved.

There, many people were being treated and there were knights helping them. Crown Prince Xavier was not there.

"Where is Crown Prince Xavier?" Count Rubel asked as he confirmed that there was no one there with bright white hair.

"His Highness escorted His Royal Majesty and Her Royal Majesty back to the palace after asking your team leader mage. Her Royal Majesty fell ill suddenly." The knight accompanying him replied.

Count Rubel asked, "Where is the mage?"

The knight led him to a corner of the room that had several mattresses. Cindy was sitting there and leaning her head against the wall. That girl closed her eyes, but her mouth kept muttering.

Count Rubel asked the two knights to leave him and help the others treat the wounded. He slowly sat down beside Cindy.

"I should have obeyed my father. I'm just a little mage who when contaminated will become a necromancer or a witch. I'm not a healer... I'm useless."

Count Rubel listened to the girl's muttering and stopped her. "Hey, Cindy Esperen, do you think regretting your fate will make everything okay?"

Cindy opened her eyes. She looked to the side and was surprised to find Count Rubel beside her. That girl immediately turned her eyes away when she saw Count Rubel's red hair.

"I-I'm just... stating the facts." Cindy continued to mumble like an unconscious person.

"That's a fact, but it's also a fact that you can help your team and even Dean appointed you as the team to guard us, right? That means your talent is recognized."

They sat at the corner of the room. So no one could hear their conversation well. The room was filled with not only K-Night Guild. There were some staff who were sent by Crown Prince Xavier in addition to the knights who helped.

"Also stop remembering the words of that damn Viscount. You were tortured even though it was his own behavior that impregnated his house maid. You were born like that through no fault of your own, it's just that idiot old fool who is ungrateful." Count Rubel cursed Cindy's father.

Cindy trembled slightly. "Y-you're a bit like Leader-nim, Count-nim. It's just that you're more expressive."

Count Rubel felt his nose come forward slightly. He replied, "Ekhem, it's an honor for me to be compared to such an honorable person."

The two of them were approached by Kalypt. That man was still wearing his wig. Honestly, Kalypt's appearance was too handsome even for an ordinary person.

"Actually, I don't want to interrupt. However, it looks like you have to come with me to the headquarters now." Kalypt unceremoniously stated his purpose for approaching them. He was still with his friendly nature.

Count Rubel said, "I'm out of energy and Cindy has used up all her mana. We can't leave now."

Kalypt shook his head, he took off his wig. "I can give you a magic scroll. But it's not free. The distance from here to the main base passes through two kingdoms. So, that's three gold coins for one person."

Count Rubel grumbled. "What a greedy person. We're a team." However, he still gave Kalypt a small packet to put the money in.

Kalypt examined it. "It contains 20 gold coins. You have the advantage of giving them away."

Count Rubel chuckled, "Tsk, save it for the next time I need another magic scroll. Hurry up and take us there, you said we should go there."

Dean and his team continued to run among the towering forest trees. He carried the protagonist on his back.

Then he stopped his steps after entering the forest of the Senova Empire. His team members also stopped. There were now not as many members as there were in the theater because they had immediately scattered.

"I forgot to leave Leon in the Senova Empire. Take this woman to the headquarters." Dean handed the protagonist to one of his subordinates who was close to him.

Leon was left at the premises of their guild branch in the Senova Empire because it was to pay attention to the human trafficking organization. The raiding members disguised themselves as the organization and Leon was assigned to keep an eye on the genuine members of the organization.

Let alone that they would be sought out by the Marithus Empire's knights. During the raid, Dean had requested that one of his men leave a token of identification from the organization during the raid. What a smart plan.

Dean simply left in his half-beast mode. Because the distance from the forest to their guild branch took almost an hour. They had to leave quickly.

But, Dean didn't know that the woman they kidnapped had opened her eyes. He hadn't thought of that before.

Brugh!!!
