Hewitt saw Theo, who looked like a teenage girl, clench her fists in her black velvet gloves:
"I don't care what you want to do, you won't stop me. If I fail, there will be nothing left."
Hewitt shook his head:
"You're in the eye of the storm. If you don't fail, you'll be ground to dust."
Theo just repeated:
"I can't fail, and neither will Lofel..."
Hewitt asked:
"Do you have some hidden agenda?"
The Demon Hunter was waiting for him to reveal all his secrets. Once he had them, he could weave a reasonable lie to gain Tyler's trust.
Theo gripped the standard-issue steel sword at his side:
"Can I beat you?"
Hewitt replied:
"Your teacher could defeat the current me."
Theo took a deep breath. He had no hope of victory against someone who could create illusions that he couldn't discern.
He didn't even know whether Hewitt was still standing in place or if his dagger was already at his throat.
