Mary stood in the doorway, feeling awkward and out of place. She had come to check on Aurora, but now that she was here, she wasn't sure what to say.
"Mary! You are here!" Aurora's voice was filled with excitement as she got off the bed and walked toward her friend. "What a surprise." She held both of Mary's hands and guided her into her room.
Mary could feel her body stiffen as she took small steps further into the room. They both walked in the direction of the bed, the warm sunlight peeking in.
As she sat on the bed, her weight pressed it down softly. She watched Aurora pick a book from her bed and place it carefully on a small shelf together with other books before walking back toward her and sitting beside her. Mary took in a deep breath and finally spoke, her voice soft and gentle. "I just wanted to make sure you are okay," she said, her face meeting Aurora's.
