Chapter 14 - The Magic tower

I got up from the grass filled field and brushed as much dirt as possible. The open green land in the middle of the city is a spot that was very eye-catching. But this field surrounded the main power house of Rexa, that was, The Magic Tower. This field and tower has a history of more than two thousand years with countless wizards and mages of high caliber being made or taught here.

And one of such talents was Edward Iverson or the youngest tower master or the youngest and strongest zero level mage or a complete lunatic with split personality. But all that aside he was one of the most trusted allies I got in the Brightfall my organization.

'huuuuuu here I come Edward.'

As I walked towards the tower I could feel magic checking me out. It was one of the defense mechanisms created by Ed. It checks the intruders who step on the grass field and notify the operators of the tower. And since I have not been stopped yet that means I have passed the entry test.

I walk at a relaxed pace and feel the wind blowing from my back. My black hair which changed back because of the teleportation swaving with its gentle touch. I wondered about everything that I have done until now, that was really satisfactory, but then that wondering stops because I know the answer myself. And the answer was yes, it is very satisfactory.

During my thoughts I reach the magic tower grand wall. A wall that covers everything and that has no doors. A route will be shown to you if they allow it. I waited for sometime and then with a single flash a door appeared before me. I couldn't see anything inside so without wasting time I walked in.

My eyes blurred and focused to a nicely lit room. The room had everything that was necessary.

"What purpose do you have to visit us today, Duke Mabuz?"

I turned to the voice and saw Azin Holt the vice tower master and a third grade mage. He was dressed in a wizard's basic attire. His strawberry blond hair that always catches my attention covers his brown eyes barely showing it.

"I am here to meet Edward."

"The tower master is a little busy. I am so sorry, duke, but till you wait, why don't you clean yourself."

I looked down and the embarrassment creeped in a little. I looked up and said without showing my embarrassment "I would appreciate that."

"Then please follow me."

I walk with Azin. He walked with the great confidence of a third grade mage.

"Is it fine if you join tower master for lunch?"

"It's all right."

When we arrived at the room, He opened the door for me.

"There is also a bath inside so please feel free to use it. The clothes are also inside."

"Thank you." I entered and Azin closed the door behind him.

I stepped out of the water and warped a bathrobe around myself.

'This feels so good. I wonder how things are going in the frost castle.'

I didn't think much and dressed myself.

The white fairly short sleeved, velvety jacket covers me to my groin and is buttoned up completely at the left side. The sleeves of the jacket are quite narrow and reach down to just above my hands, they're decorated with a decorative band at the edges.

The jacket has a deep v-neck which reveals part of the graceful pastel blue shirt worn below it and is worn with a wide cloth band, which is held together by an intricate knot. The cloth band is solely decorative and a status symbol. The pants are simple and a little narrow and reach down to my bound cloth shoes.

I look at myself in the mirror smilingly pleased with the clothes. I waved my hands through my hair giving it a messy look.

'I don't think this is up to Millard or Barman's standard but it's good for traveling.'

knock knock!!

"Come in."

Azin entered the room.

"I see the clothes are up to your standards."

"Yes they are fine."

"Good then, Master is waiting for you in the dining room."

"Yes, please lead the way."

We walk in silence towards the room. It was a comfortable silence that didn't bother me. On the way we didn't cross paths with any other mages probably because they keep themselves away whenever there is a visitor. That's kind of an unspoken rule in the tower.

The mages in this tower are all fifth or above mages. The mages are deemed powerful when they cross the thrust hole at the sixth level that is below fifth. The lower the level of the number the more powerful the mage is. They are graded from tenth till zero.

There are multiple magic towers but this one is the strongest.

We entered the dining hall. It was not that big but it was sufficient to have more than ten people at once. There was no one in the room except the one man sitting on the head chair. We locked eyes, his Amber eyes looking, no, observing me very closely.

He got up and smiled and greeted me. "Welcome to the Magic tower, Duke."

His dark blue hairs matched his constellation covered shirt and his star mage's robe. his plants lined with silver and blue reached his black shoes. He had a tiny broach that the ice king gifted him when they first met.

The broach had Sapphire with a princess cut and was the size of a blueberry that was a rare design not found anywhere other than the Firn kingdom.

I smiled and greeted him with familiarity. We or the brightfall members don't meet often other than the annual meeting or mission related discussion so individual meetings happen more often then group.

Edward ran to me and hugged me. I was surprised by his reaction and didn't have time to hug back. He pulled away and gave me his most cheerful smile.

I leaned near him and whispered not wanting Azin to hear. "Is that you Ed?"

He didn't take the queue of staying quiet and shouted "yes it's me Ed."

I panicked and looked behind but saw no one. Azin had somehow slipped away during the conversation. I felt a hand grab me and was pulled to the dining table. A chair was pulled and I was forced to take a seat at the head of the table.

"So my king, what would you like to eat?"

I was staring at him because of his behavior that surprises me everytime.
