Roenaldo soon arrived back at the surface with the ornery Zapfish still in hand. The piscine wriggled out of Roenaldo's hands before releasing one final shock, and the sound of steam whistling could be heard. Roenaldo looked towards the source of the noise to find that a Boss Kettle on a tower had its lid removed. Seeing this, the agent did some platforming among the grates that lined the pillar before eventually reaching the large kettle. He took a second to sit down and catch his breath; he was very tired from the many missions he took part of. Nonetheless, he still had the drive to continue, so he pumped his arms to psyche himself up before plunging into the lair.
Roenaldo didn't waste a second landing and using the nearby launch pad to jump to a circular, metallic arena; he was eager to get things over and done with. Sitting in the middle of the platform was a giant, spherical object with grey, robotic eyes that was covered in many spines as a pufferfish. Despite how dangerous it looked, Roenaldo couldn't help but to say, "Hey, that looks like one of those tops that I had as a kid!" The captain replied, "Oho, so you played with tops, too! I have fond memories of them, good times. But this thing is not to be toyed with; it's the rampaging Octowhirl!" As the captain said this, a Zapfish descended from the sky onto the Octowhirl, which now had a tentacle poking out of the middle of it where there was no armor. The fish cried out like all the rest and was pulled into the purple ink, causing the Octowhirl to crackle with electricity. The object flipped onto its longest point before staring at Roenaldo with its now-purple eyes. It moved its top metal plate like an unhinged jaw, letting out a bubbly roar. It then rotated just like a top, causing Roenaldo to look on with a mixture of amusement and fear. "Hey," he said while smiling nervously, "What's that thing doing?" Cuttlefish answered, "I remember this well; the Octowhirl's building up power to roll over you! I forget how you're supposed to take it down, though…" The Octowhirl continued to spin, dispersing purple gunk as it traveled around the outer edges of the circle. Eventually, the weapon stopped spinning and stared directly at Roenaldo. It revved up in its own ink, and the agent prepared himself for the worst. Suddenly, the Octowhirl rocketed forward, its entire body covered in purple ink. Roenaldo gasped before inking an escape path and swimming to safety. By doing this, he was able to just barely avoid getting turned into roadkill.
Having missed it's target, the Octowhirl hit the edges of the arena before quickly returning to its upright position. Roenaldo hunched over as he caught his breath, saying to himself, "Woah! What am I supposed to do about that? That thing was traveling as fast as a worm is slow! There's no way I can shoot it or anything…" Roenaldo began to think of a solution, but tine was running short; the Octowhirl was still preparing its attack. "Hold on," said the Inkling with a smile on his face, "I've got it! This guy looks just like those Octoballs, so all I've got to do is slow it down with my ink!" Roenaldo put his plan into action, using his Hero Shot to paint the area around him. Unfortunately, by the time he got to doing this, the Octowhirl was initiating its attack, so Roenaldo had to dodge out of the way. On the bright side, the Octowhirl noticeably slowed down while traveling across the little ink that was there, so Roenaldo knew he was on the right track. With their knowledge, he proceeded to paint some more, managing to cover the middle of the arena in yellow. He smiled and did a "come at me" gesture with his hands, saying, "Come on, you oversized plaything, attack me, I dare you!" Not caring that there was a hazard in front of it, the Octowhirl revved up and let loose, aiming to crush its opponent. Upon touching the yellow area, the Octoweapon grew slower and slower until it came to a halt. Wondering what was going on, the operating tentacle peeked out to survey the area; Roenaldo immediately took the opportunity to blast the arm.
Feeling spunky, Roenaldo decided to Super Jump away from the machine(although he did not stick the landing). Picking himself up, he said, "This Octoweapon should be easy. It's just an oversized Octoball!" The damaged tentacle shook a bit before returning to its control center, prompting the Octowhirl to spin vigorously and free itself from the enemy ink. This movement was so violent that the very ground shook; Roenaldo struggled to keep his balance. Furthermore, some of the brown floor covering the platform cracked and fell into the surrounding ink sea, revealing dormant gears protected by a glass window. Once the quake stopped, Roenaldo looked down with curiosity before seeing that the Octowhirl was circling around again. Thinking that this would be easy to handle, Roenaldo got to painting the floor before noticing that his ink slid right off the glass. "Uh oh," he said, "This isn't good. I can only paint some of the ground!" As the agent was thinking about what to do, the Octowhirl once again locked into the squid, building up power as it prepared to unleash another devastating attack. Roenaldo's first thought was to swim away, but the section he was standing on had no inkable parts. So, he attempted to run away, but he was simply not fast enough. As a result, Roenaldo was made like dough subject to a rolling pin.
"Aye," said the captain as Roenaldo revived, "You must be ready for surprises as an agent. That's another one o' my rules of the battlefield for you, bucko." As Roenaldo headed back towards the circle, he stated, "I think you might've already said that, captain. Besides, that was just a mistake; I've got it this time!"
With that, the squid landed in sight of the Octowhirl and proceeded to paint the center of the circle. Once he finished doing that, he stood patiently and crossed his arms, watching as the Octowhirl charged up another strike. However, something was wrong: the ball's speed was higher than usual this time around. Even when the Octowhirl touched the yellow ink, it was still moving more than was acceptable. To make things worse, Roenaldo was right in the path of the sphere, and he was hit directly. Thankfully, the impact was lessened due to the lower speed, but Roenaldo was still seriously hurt. The Octowhirl passed over the yellow ink this time, getting itself back into position to launch another attack. As Roenaldo dove into his ink to rest, Cuttlefish scolded, "Don't get cocky, Agent 3! This is still a Great Octoweapon we're talking about; you never know how powerful they can be!" Once Roenaldo felt rested enough, he emerged and replied, "Okay, captain, my mistake." He put on his serious face as he continued, "Alright then, I guess I'll have to lay down even more ink. Hmm, let's see…" He looked at the brown areas that were inkable, drawing a line along them that corresponded to the path that the Octowhirl took. Then, he formulated a plan: he was going to manipulate the Octowhirl to go right where he wanted it. Without wasting a second, he got to painting what was available to paint. Once everything was in order, he quickly swam to the opposite end of where the Octowhirl was spinning, and he made sure that his target was in the right position before drawing it's attention. The Octoweapon took the bait, and it touched more ink than it could handle. Now once again stuck, the Octowhirl had its pilot emerge to look around, causing it to get hit by Roenaldo's gun.
"Wow," said the agent, "I'm no math person, but I figured out that angle like it was nothing!" Now fed up with its foes antics, the tentacle went back inside the Octowhirl and made it get out of the yellow ink. Because the machine was starting to break apart, electricity seeped out of its wires and panels and onto the floor. This caused the once-stationary gears to start to move, resulting in parts of the floor to move like a roulette wheel. Although Roenaldo was intrigued by this, he also knew that this was bad for the battle; it was now harder to set up a trap for his opponent. "Hoo boy," said the agent, "This might be difficult, right captain?" However, there was no response. He waited a second before shrugging and saying, "Dang, looks like this Octowhirl might've broke the communication center, too. Don't worry, I'll just let you watch while I handle this." With that, Roenaldo got to painting what was available to paint. As he did that, he found himself having to dodge way more than usual; the Octowhirl was spinning way faster than usual. Still, he managed to survive long enough to fully cover the floor with ink. "Okay," he said to himself, "I'm going to need a lot of luck for this…" The Inkling made many attempts at positioning himself so that the Octowhirl touched as much ink as possible. Eventually, the tiles lined up good enough for the machine to slower down to a standstill (it stopped right in front of Roenaldo, too!) With the tentacle exposed for the last time, it was promptly splatted by Roenaldo's Hero Shot. The agent huffed and puffed from the exertion as he watched the Octowhirl spin rapidly in place. This time, however, the sphere could not escape, and the ink was starting to get to it. Rotating faster and faster, the weapon eventually self-destructed, releasing a massive wave of yellow ink. Roenaldo walked over to the now-freed Zapfish in the rubble, saying, "Heheh, you must've been pretty dizzy riding in that…you know what, there's no use talking. Just shock me already." The Zapfish happily indulged in his request, and the Inkling picked up the fish. Apparently, a transport drone had been called in advance. He then got in the vehicle and escaped.
Roenaldo Super Jumped back to Cuttlefish Cabin to find a note left behind for him. "Ahoy, Agent 3," read Roenaldo, "I be needing to leave for a good old fishing journey. Why don't ye take a break, ye old scallywag? Inkopolis be a great place to take a load off!" Roenaldo held his chin, saying, "How did an old squid like him leave so fast to go on a fishing trip? Well, I did do a lot today, so I guess I deserve a break. I hope he has fun with his fishing." With that, Roenaldo dropped off the Zapfish before traveling up the pipe and to his home.
After a subpar, homemade dinner, Roenaldo went straight to his bed. As he lay there trying to go to sleep, he thought to himself, I wonder why the captain wrote that way? He may be elderly, but I never saw him speak that weirdly before. Eh, I guess this is just some side I never saw before... Roenaldo thought a bit more before sighing and falling into a slumber.
