Chapter 37 - Chapter 37 – The three days are over

At an unknown location in Willow city. An old man with a long white beard was sitting on the floor drinking tea with his eyes closed. He was quite tall and had a muscular body.

KNOCK!

KNOCK!

"Enter!"

"Im sorry to disturb you teacher but I have news regarding my target" A young man said as he sat down in front of the older man.

"What did you see ?" The old man asked.

"He was...well I could say ambushed by a group of bandits"

"Why don't you sound sure with your words?" the old man took a sip from his cup.

"Well teacher, he walked into the alley on his own and actually called out to the bandits. It seemed he knew they were following him."

"So what?" the teacher asked.

"He is blind" The man said.

The old teacher combed his hand through his beard "It's interesting that he noticed that he was being followed while blind, but that also means he is useless to me"

"Teacher, he won the fight " The young man stressed.

"Of course he won the fight, otherwise you wouldn't have told me about him, what makes him interesting enough to deserve my attention?" The teacher inquired.

"He won against 6 bandits without a weapon, while his opponents all had knives, and he could incapacitate a man for a few minutes with only one hit" the man narrated.

"I have students who can do the same thing. I would have taken this Zane in, but the fact that he is blind will make him inherently weaker than the others. He won't stand a chance" The teacher said.

The man sighed as he prepared to leave, that's when he remembered something "He can also use healing mana".

"What!?" The teacher exclaimed in surprise as he opened his eyes for the first time.

After the guards left, Zane searched the bodies of his victims and was disappointed to find that all 6 of them had a combined wealth of only 30 gold. Zane pocketed the gold and the few knives they had. 'Why would all of them use the same weapon type?' Zane wondered.

'My sword isn't here, that means the leader took it with him when he escaped. Funny how my weapons always get stolen as soon as I try to use them' He thought.

Zane then walked out of the alley and made his way to the Dancing Rum tavern. He could feel that it was nowhere near sundown but he didn't have anywhere else to go. Zane started to regret not going with Chris.

Zane entered the tavern and sat down on the same table as the previous day. He then ordered a drink and just thought about his lives, both of them. He really missed his wife and he knew chances were that she had died a long time ago.

'System' Zane thought and a window appeared in his 'view'.

User can also absorb mana from any living organism without killing the subject. However the subject will lose the stolen mana forever and it will not regenerate.

Mana gained through this method will be drained from the user at 1 mana point per second>

Zane read over his skills out of boredom. He already knew what all three of them did but maybe he had missed something, like the fact that humans had more Mana when he used the Mana Gathering skill on them.

'Isn't the Mana Gathering and the Mana manipulation skills the same thing?' he wondered 'The only difference is that with mana manipulation I can give back mana. Speaking of Mana, damn those are a lot of points!' he thought as he checked his mana reserves once more.

After Zane saw the points he got from the first guy he killed, he didn't bother to check the next ones. According to his current mana points and his estimation calculations, each bandit gave him at least Six thousand points.

'It's so annoying to have all this mana but nothing fun to use it on. Maybe I should open a clinic and heal people for money' he thought

"Zane ?" he heard someone say. Zane looked up and saw the outline of a woman.

"Hey Clara" he replied. The woman was Clara, one of the three hunters, zane had recognized her voice. Looking up was just a habit from his previous life.

"I thought that was you, almost didn't recognize you without your eye cover" she said as he sat down before motioning for a waiter.

That was when Zane remembered that he had removed the cloth covering his eyes as it was also filled with blood.

"What happened to you" Clara asked.

"What do you mean?" Zane said.

Clara suddenly stood up and touched Zane's ear. Zane wanted to move back but he was too late, he couldn't compare his speed to a mage. The only reason he had managed to catch the piece of bread before was that he had seen the mana beforehand so be had been prepared.

Clara pulled back her hand just as quickly and rubbed her thumb against her forefinger "Yep that's blood alright" she said.

Zane also touched behind his ear and felt that he had failed to clean all the blood.

"You don't need to tell me the story, but just answer this. Is it yours?" Clara asked.

"No " Zane replied casually.

"Okay" Clara took a sip of her drink.

"What would you have done if it was mine ?" Zane smirked.

"I would have hunted down who hurt you and killed them" answered Clara.

Zane squinted his eyes "Why would you do that for me?, we barely know each other "

"It won't be only me, the whole team would do the same thing. You are now part of us after all" Clara announced.

"Thanks but I can take care of myself " Zane said.

Clara just smiled and continued with her drinking.

"So Zane tell me about yourself" Clara initiated after a few seconds of silence.

Zane thought about it and saw no problem with telling Clara about his background.

Three hours later.

"Yo what's up" Chris said as he walked into the tavern. Zane and Clara were still locked in conversation.

"Ohh I didn't know you two were on a date" he smirked.

Zane just slightly smiled but didn't deny Chris's comment. That wasn't because it really was a date, it was because he knew Chris' character. If he denied it, Chris wouldn't stop talking.

Clara excused herself and left as Zane asked Chris whether or not he had found accomodation for them.

"Of course I found a house, who am I?" Chris boasted.

Chris then led Zane to their new apartment, which wasn't very far from the tavern.

Zane threw a couple dozen 100 point sight grenades around the house and saw it fully for 10 seconds. It was a small rectangular cottage of about 40 meters long and 20 meters in wide.

Inside it had two bedrooms, a washroom and a living room.

"It's not a mansion on my own private island but it should do" Zane mumbled as he got lost in reverie.

"What's an island?" Chris snapped Zane out of his thoughts. Zane remembered that this planet didn't have oceans and seas so there where also no islands.

"Don't worry about it, it's a word my family came up with" Zane answered as he entered the house.

Zane and Chris spent the next two days buying stuff for their house and before long , the day for their first mission arrived.
