As the beast retreated, Adam raised his hand as he prepared to perform his signature leg-severing technique, however...
"Adam let it go!" David shouted.
Adam was confused for a second but then quickly cancelled his spell as the reason for David's order dawned on him.
"Zane follow us, with Chris" David said as he started jogging after the spider. Even though Zane was in the village, which was 150 meters away, David had a feeling that he would be able to hear him.
Back at the village.
"Chris let's go!" Zane said as he quickly left the hall.
"Didn't they say to stay here?" Chris questioned, even though he also ran after Zane.
"David called us" Zane answered.
"When did...oh right I almost forgot about your over sensitive ears" Chris mused.
David was right in thinking that Zane could hear him, however that was only because Zane was actively listening to them. Otherwise he wouldn't have heard anything.
When Zane and Chris passed by the corpse of the first spider, Zane quickly put it inside his storage ring. He wanted to store it inside his inventory but he had decided that he would only put things he stole inside the inventory.
A few seconds of running, the two entered the beast zone for the first time. From this place onwards one couldn't find normal animals anymore. This place was exclusively for the mana beasts.
It didn't take long for them to reach the trio of hunters.
"What's going on?" Zane asked as he glanced at the giant spider running 50 meters in front of them.
He had heard David when he stopped Adam from attacking the beast when it started to flee. However he didn't know why David had done that.
"These two spiders never ate the villagers immediately, they always left with them" Clara said.
Zane furrowed bis brows as he wondered how that statement had anything to do with his question. However the answer came to him rather quickly and he nodded his head at Clara.
"Can one of you please explain!?" Chris shouted in frustration.
"We talked about this back at the village Chris remember? The spider queen?." Zane hinted.
"Ohh yeah the supposed leader which is getting all the food. So you think this beast is running back to the queen?" Chris said as he also started following the conversation.
"I am 90% sure of it. Even there is no queen, this spider is running somewhere right?" David said "Hey Zane I need your services" he continued.
Zane nodded and ran up to David to heal him. Zane already knew that David was injured as he had heard him complain that it was because of Clara and Adam that he got hurt in the first place, speaking of...
"Hey Clara I have some questions about that spell you and Adam conjured back there" Zane said.
"Ohh you mean the Ultimate Infernal Tornado?" Clara exclaimed as she proudly said the name of their spell.
"It's was quite powerful right?" she continued with a smile.
"It was the most amazing thing I have ever seen in my life" Zane said and Clara chuckled, she was the first one to understand Zane's joke.
"That spell is actually what makes our team one of the top three strongest hunter groups in our guild" Adam interjected, he also seemed really proud of their spell.
"Ohh I didn't know you guys where that strong" Zane commented "I also didn't know it was possible to perfectly combine two spells of different elements like that"
"Combined spells, most commonly known as Dual spells aren't easy to cast. They are also supremely rare." Adam revealed.
"What makes them hard to cast?" Zane asked.
"Cast and conjure mean the same thing right?" Chris suddenly blurted out of nowhere.
"......."
"Anyway the reason Dual spells are hard to cast is that it's difficult to make mana from different sources and of different elements coexist and interact."
"Magic spells where made to block and attack other magic spells not dance around together. All mana even peaceful mana like that of the water element is made to destroy. Except for manipulation and healing mana of course" Adam explained.
"So perfect control over mana is needed to dual cast right?" Zane asked.
"Yes and no" Adam said, confusing Zane.
"Yes control is an advantage but it isn't necessary, take Clara here for instance. She has the worst control over her fire element I have ever seen" David said.
"However only one of the dual casters has to have at least average control depending on the type of dual spell." he taught.
"So let's say I have high control over my element and I also have someone to dual cast with. What else do I need ?" Zane asked
"Dual casting is quite complicated because the requirements also greatly vary according to the elements used. My wind and Clara's fire complement each other perfectly"
"It would be a different story if Clara had her fire and i had something like water. What would we dual cast then? boiling water? , steam ?" Adam said.
Zane nodded in understanding he was starting to understand why Adam claimed that dual casting was rare, however with only those two hurdles it couldn't be that hard to overcome.. right?.
"So if the mages manage to overcome those problems they can cast right?" Zane probed.
"Nope" Adam said with a sigh "There is one last problem to overcome, and that is the fact that the two mages have to share a deep connection"
Zane furrowed his brows "Explain please"
"The two mages must share a deep bond or must have been interacting with each other for at least 75% of their lives"
"This is so that their mana gets used to each other, so that it joins instead of trying to destroy each other. I know it sounds weird but that's exactly how I was taught in hunting school" Adam finished his explanation.
Zane narrowed his eyes in thought 'That's quite troublesome'
"Wait then does that mean you two have a deep bond?" Chris asked.
"Of course we have a deep bond. We are twin siblings after all" Clara revealed.
"Whaaaat!!!" Chris shouted at the top of his lungs. Zane was also quite shocked but not as much as his companion.
"Since when!?" Chris asked.
"Since we where born a hundred and twenty for years ago" Adam nochalantly said.
"You are 124 years old!?" Zane asked in shock as he unconsciously threw a sight grenade at Clara's face.
"But you look so young!" Zane exclaimed.
"We are mages Zane" Adam said and Zane scratched his chin in understanding, which was kind of hard since the group was still half running.
'I feel like the phrase 'I am a mage' can explain every unnatural thing on this planet. I really need to stop thinking like I am on earth' he thought.
Zane wanted to ask how mages can make themselves look younger but decided he will just find out on his own later. He felt like sooner or later the team will get annoyed by his questions, but then again...
"I have a question" Zane started "How old is the oldest person you know?"
"That would be the King of Berovia himself, he is currently in the Supreme Magus realm and is around three thousand years old.
BANG!
Zane tripped on a root and fell face first onto the ground.
