CLANG!!
The bow in Zane's hand fell out of his grasp. He stood there with eyes and mouth wide open. Zane wanted nothing more than to inspect whatever his system said, however now wasn't the time.
"WOW!!, that was AWESOME!" how did you do that!?" Chris shouted while shaking Zane's shoulders.
"Uhhh...I just shot it" Zane said absentmindedly.
"Just shot it!?. You killed a grade two mana beast for celestial's sake, that's incredible!" Chris shouted.
Zane smiled at Chris and started walking towards the spider. The other thing that shocked Zane was that he actually did killed the spider, that was never his intention at all!.
Never did he think he could kill something professional hunters failed to kill. Zane arrived at the corpse of the spider, which was surrounded by David and the twins.
David had an arrow in his hand, black blood still dripping from its tip.
The eyes of the hunters went from the corpse to Zane, then to the bow in Zane's hand, then to the arrow in David's hand, then to the spider's corpse, then back to Zane again.
Pfff!
Chris suppressed a laugh. It was really comical for him to watch the synchronized movement of the hunter's heads.
"Nice work Zane" David said after giving Chris a side eye, which was effective in shutting him up.
"Thanks" Zane said with an embarrassed smile. He wasn't sure whether to tell the group that what happened was just dumb luck.
"Before I became a mage I was also a bow user" Adam started "I know my way around a bow and I must say Zane you are really good, you might be even better than me" Adam said. The rest of the group looked at Adam with weird gazes. It was clear they didn't agree with what he said.
"I'm serious!" Adam said
"Okay let me explain it to you guys" he continued "Zane was a hundred meters from the spider and the crack on the carapace was on the spider's back."
"It would have been easier if Zane shot from above the spider, but he didn't. In order to do what he did, he had to shoot the arrow into the air with enough force so that it curves downwards at the right moment to hit the spider from above."
"Not to mention that he still gad to aim for that tiny crack, which would be pretty much invisible from a hundred meters."
"However not only did Zane manage to aim at the crack. He also hit the spider's heart dead center. To say he is a genius with the bow would be an understatement. Watch closely ladies and gentlemen, we could very well be witnessing the rise of the bow prodigy" Adam finished his narration.
Only after Adam explained did the hunters and Zane himself realize the incredible feat he had accomplished.
'If only I did it on purpose' Zane thought.
"Say, were you by any chance mentored by one of the legendary weapon mages?" Adam asked.
Zane didn't need to ask what a weapon mage was. Their title already pretty much explained everything.
The image of his father flashed through his mind.
"My father is actually the one who taught me" Zane said
The eyes of the hunters opened wide in surprise. Zane's father is one of the weapon mages!?.
"Who is your father?" Adam asked hurriedly.
"Uhh his name is Owen he lives on our farm with my mother" Zane said awkwardly, he really didn't know how he was supposed to answer that.
"Ohh he doesn't sound like one of the weapon mages" David mumbled.
"What!? Of course he isn't a weapon mage" Zane laughed.
"Too bad" Adam said dejectedly "Anyway here is something for saving our lives" Adam continued as he took out something from his ring.
Zane could see the object Adam took out. It was a bow!!. However this bow was definitely different from the bows Zane was used to. The obvious difference was that he could see this bow.
This meant that either this bow was a living object, or it had mana infused into it. Zane was leaning more to the latter.
"This is a special bow made from the tusk of a rank two earth boar. Earth boars have the ability to naturally absorb mana into their tusks which then explodes when the boar charges against something."
"This bow inherited part of that ability. It absorbs small amounts of mana from its wielder and uses that mana to shoot faster arrows. Also it can never break no matter how strong it's wielder is" Adam explained as he handed the bow over to Zane.
"Are you sure about this?" Zane asked as he caressed the bow, it was surprisingly smooth.
"Yes i am sure, without you we would be dead, it's the least I can do" Adam smiled.
"Why don't you use it" Zane asked as he stretched the bow string a little.
"My weakest wind blade is stronger and faster than that bow's strongest and fastest arrow" Adam shrugged.
"Thanks Adam" Zane said with a smile. He was really grateful for the bow. He couldn't even use his full power with the bow he had, because of the fear of snapping it in half.
"No problem at all" Adam waved it off.
"We did it" Clara suddenly mumbled.
"Well actually it was Zane who did it" David said with an awkward smile.
"I wouldn't have been able to do it if it wasn't injured so it really was you guys who did it" Zane said.
"Well it doesn't matter who did it. The bottom line is that we now have a grade two mana core and a grade two beast body" Adam said.
"Speaking of, Zane could you hand it over ?" David said.
"What...ohh right!"
Bang!
The corpse of the first spider killed by Adam and Clara appeared in front of Zane. David quickly sucked it into his ring as well as the grade two one.
"Hey David I wanted to ask, exactly how strong are you guys?" Zane asked.
"I am a rank six mage" David said.
"I am a rank four mage" Clara said.
"I am also a rank four mage" Adam said
"What is needed to advance in rank in the mage realm?" Zane asked. Even though he knew the answer, it was better to hear it from mages themselves.
"Ten grade one mana cores or one grade two mana core" David said
"So for you to become a rank seven mage you need 1 grade one mana core?" Zane asked with a raised eyebrow. That would be too easy.
"Hell no, he needs 10 grade one mana cores to become a rank seven" Clara exclaimed.
Zane's eyes opened in surprise "So to go from a rank 1 Mage to a rank 1 High Mage one needs 100 mana cores!?"
"Yep, or 10 grade two mana cores" Adam confirmed.
'That's 10 000 gold coins!. No wonder Mages have large lifespans. If they didn't, they would die before becoming High Mages. This isn't going to be as easy as i thought'
