"Hey," Liam said, putting his arms around Charlotte, but she shrugged him off with a grunt.
"Can't you see I am in the middle of something?" Charlotte rudely spat at him.
"(Scoff) What should I do with you?" Charlotte asked herself.
"Just let her go, class will soon commence," Liam said and I carried my gaze to him again.
Charlotte turned to him with a glare."Are you seriously saying this?" She said, still glaring at him.
"What do you want me to say?" Liam asked.
"Be mean to her, She should know her place in this school, She's utterly useless, a girl with no powers in a magical school, ugly looking and fat." She said in disgust as she stared at me.
Liam sighed and took a step towards me.
"Look here, whoever you are, you should know your place, don't get the wrong idea about anything, and stay the f*ck away from me, as far as possible, I'm not attracted to ugly ducklings." He said and I could feel tears trickle down my eyes. I tried so hard to hide it but to no avail, I couldn't stop it, and The students laughed as they took out their phone to video.
Liam walked back to Charlotte and outstretched his arm." Are you satisfied?" He asked and Charlotte nodded with a smirk then walked away. I lifted my gaze and saw him staring at me, then walked away as soon as our gazes met. His face was unreadable as usual. He was always cold to other girls but warmed up to Charlotte. I get the pain in my heart, getting insulted by Liam hurt even more than being body-shamed.
I wiped my tears and then the school bell rang, The crowd dispersed and went their separate ways, leaving me there with Alex, Liam's twin brother. He was a telepath so I knew he must have read what was going through my mind.
He walked up to me and showed his hand, I took it and stood up with an embarrassed smile on my face, I was humiliated in front of the whole school and by his twin brother at that.
"Am sorry on behalf of my brother, Liam could be insensitive sometimes." He said with a smile and just by seeing that smile, I felt a little better.
Unlike Liam, who was devilishly handsome, Alex had an angelic feature. He had styled blonde hair like his brother but liked to dye his hair blue. He loved wearing white and he had a feminine beauty, his lashes were longer than Liam's and most females, his lips were heart-shaped, a lot like mine and his pupils were light green. His height was just right although Liam was a little taller and his body was...Hot. He had a tattoo drawn on his left arm, while Liam had a tattoo drawn on his back. They were sons of a Mafia boss, whom my father ruined his life years ago, back when he was still working with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Alex was a sweetheart, he had never caused trouble in the school and was also loved by everyone.
"Thank you," I said, dusting off my skirt.
"You're welcome," Alex said flashing a smile. He took two steps forward and then turned back to me.
"What are you waiting for?" He asked.
"Huh?" I asked, raising a brow.
"Let's get to class, It'll be better if you show up with me, that way you'll draw less attention." He said with a smirk and walked ahead. I hurriedly ran behind him and followed him closely as we walked to class.
"Ranella Whitlock, right?" He asked.
"Yeah," I replied, tucking my hair behind my ear, I can't believe Alex knows my name.
"Hmm, it's hard to miss it, You took first place in class every year, I was trying so hard to top the class but I haven't got a chance, You're smart," Alex said.
I blushed and smiled, Alex was indeed a warm-hearted person. It was my first time speaking to him and yet he acts like he has known me for a long time. How could one brother be so cold and the other, warm?
We got to class and just as Alex said, at his sight the teacher who was about to blast at me instantly cooled down. Alex was one of their best students, so they wouldn't want to offend him.
I sat behind as usual, at the last roll and the corner beside the window. Surprisingly, Alex sat next to me. I was confused and I wasn't the only one, other students began to whisper and murmur.
"What are you doing?" I asked, adjusting a little.
"What do you mean, I'm sitting," Alex said.
I blinked twice, I could not believe it, but I knew it was because he wanted to make it up to me on behalf of his brother. At least someone thought about her feelings.
"Miss Ranella, can you please focus?" Teacher Racheal said she was our Magical Ethics teacher. She teaches us the rules and ways in which we were to use or not use our...their powers.
I turned my attention to the teacher, ignoring Alex and trying to focus. He also looked like he was paying attention, which was cool.
Other guys thought they were too cool to pay attention, like VC and Leo, who were the remaining members of the ANGELZ. They never paid attention but they were good at using their powers.
"What happens when you lose control of your powers in a battle?" Teacher Racheal asked. Only a few students' hands were raised, including Alex, I never raised my hands to answer questions unless I was called, I wouldn't want to draw attention to myself.
"Alex," Teacher Racheal picked him up.
"If one loses his/her powers in a battle, he/she might end up causing harm to himself or allies," Alex answered fluently. I looked at him in awe, he was indeed smart.
"Correct, that's the perfect and simplest way to put it." Teacher Racheal said with a snap.
"The assignment for next week is, I would like you to write down ways in which you can pull up short your powers when you lose control." Teacher Rachel said and dismissed the class.
The teachers here in Hidden High were not considerate. I didn't have powers, how was I supposed to know how it felt like to lose control or regain control? I also couldn't expect the teacher to change her assignments for my sake, could I? That'd be selfish.
I packed my things into my bag and turned to leave, Alex had disappeared without a trace since the teacher dismissed us.
I was on my way to the library to pick up some notes that might help with the assignment, I walked through the halls, lost in thoughts and still pondering upon why Alex was nice to me and also sat with me.
"Hey, Ranell," Edward said, jumping on me and wrapping his hand around my shoulders, I halted.
"Edward, where have you been? I didn't see you in class." I asked with concern.
"Tsk tsk, you should know me by now, not all classes are good for me, I only attend the ones that are to my liking and are most important," Edward said.
Edward was my closest male friend, he was black and he was a tenacious being but sweet most times. Edward was so friendly and a blabbermouth, he was an exact 6ft and slim, a perfect body for a male model.
"Teacher Racheal gave us an assignment," I said.
"When you finish, can I copy from you?" Edward said with a sheepish grin.
"You should try scoring your own grades, Teacher Racheal would notice if we wrote the same thing," I said and walked ahead.
"I would change my penmanship."
"It wouldn't change a thing," I replied while shaking my head as I walked ahead to the library, with Edward trailing behind me like a lost puppy.
