Chapter 18 - Chp. 18 Escaping

"Hoh? Threats, that would only work if they knew I was the one that killed you. But even then would they dare to go here? In my territory? The Wildlands would gladly welcome them then should the time comes, your words are nothing but empty threats to me." Marc then waved his hands as he finished his words.

The Old man was shocked at how this Saint in front of him not take his words seriously as he was a part of an assassin group so they are equipped to escape dangerous situations and might get revenge later.

But before he could signal for his men to retreat dozens of shadows whizzed past from the mist and instantly decimated the assassin troops.

"W-what?!" the old man was shocked as he saw A-class beasts, the cockatrice, wearing armor and a knife on their claw killing his men in a swift deadly manner.

It was then he felt a chill run down his spine as a shadow loomed over him. He stopped the control of the metal thread he plans to kill Lady Janice with as he scrambled away to avoid a wind splitting slice coming to his head.

As he rolled far away he looked up and was faced with a larger Cockatrice while has a darker plume of feathers indicating it was a variant that might be in the S-class.

"A-a-ahh! W-what's this!" Pang Hu retreated back to his group as he watched in horror the group of A-class beasts killing and slashing the assassins like weeds.

"You-" the old man was about to try threaten again but Tyrone didn't let him talk as he excitedly charged to fight the old guy.

"I thought I told this nugget to guard the town." Marc murmured which was heard by Bacon who snorted towards Tyrone.

"Oink!!"

"Kwacrack!" Tyrone cawed back which Marc understood a bit that he was just feeling a bit bored and no one would dare to attack the town.

"This kid…" Marc shook his head as he looked at the tall rooster giving the old man a hard time. Assassins always rely on their speed and flexibility in the field in battle but right now Tyrone was the worst enemy the old man could face as he was faster and more agile than the wrinkled assassin.

"Lord Saint, thank you." Lady Janice looked at Marc with gratitude as she held her friend in her arms.

"Don't mention it, I just attacked since I do not like that old man's face. He's ugly…" Marc dismounted from Bacon and tapped the sides of the large beast who snorted and charge towards where the swordswoman was fighting.

"Uhmm, excuse me my lady?" then a voice called out on the side making Marc look at a monk seemingly looked worried.

"Who might you be?" Lady Janice asked since she saw Marc did not say anything.

"We are Adventurers my Lady, we were hired by your nephews the princes to come and find you." The monk looked at Marc unsurely as he somehow could not feel his presence a bit even when he is close by.

"I see, then is there something you might need?" Lady Janice eyes chilled as she remembered that her home is still troubled by the competition of the princes.

"My Lady, I seem to see that you have an antidote for the poison. Would it be possible for me to buy one? My Team Leader has been poisoned by the old assassin earlier." The monk pleaded to Janice who looked over to the soldiers and adventurers that were confused as to what to do.

There she saw bald men surrounding a large bald man who seemed to be suffering the same poison he friend was inflicted with. But that guy's is much more inflicted and poison seems to have seeped into his veins already.

Janice looked at Marc who also looked over to the soldiers huddled together, seeing him not reacting any bit she looked over to her maid Etra to fetch another vial for the monk.

"Thank you my lady, we will never forget this debt!" the monk was excited as he ran back towards their leader to give him the vial. Soon they saw how their leader seemingly calmed down and the veins as well as his pale complexion were receding.

Marc watched how the assassins were killed down to the last man and the only one left was the old man. Bacon already subdued the swordswoman as she could not penetrate past the defenses of Bacon, she might be fast and skillful but the Boar just ran over her giving her multiple injuries at one charge.

She had not expected to be rammed by the gigantic Boar as she was busy gaining ground against the knight captain, Henry and Lydia. After that Bacon kicked her sword away and brought her towards Marc who noticed the collar in her neck.

"What's this?" Marc looked at Mara, the maid of Janice, who showed great disgust towards the Collar.

"It's a slave collar lord saint, it is a dark artifact that is banned all over the east continent and whoever uses one will be persecuted by many states all over. But not all see this as a problem as some countries still use this foul artifact." Mara looked at the swordswoman in pity as she saw her scars and blank eyes.

"Slave collar?" Marc murmured but his head went to the gutters as the hundreds of 'research' files he has in his computer were still there making him worry that maybe somebody had discovered his browser history after his disappearance.

"How do we remove it?" Marc asked the maid who was surprised at the question.

"Uhm… I don't know my lord." Mara said as she looked over towards her Lady.

"There are two ways lord Saint, but the first one is to be skillful in spell formations while the other is to remove the Collar forcefully. But you must be stronger than the one who placed it on the person, you will be able to break the collar easily but there is still the explosion that will follow once the collar is taken off. So you must be-" Lady Janice was explaining as she stroked the head of her sleeping friend.

*Crack!*

*Swish!*

*BOOOOM!!!*

Suddenly the whole place was shocked as a large ball of explosion could be seen in the sky. The Baroness who was sleeping was shocked awake as well as Axeface who seem to have woken up from a very pleasant dream as he was drooling.

Lady Janice as well as her maids looked like statues as they stared at Marc who was patting his hand like there was dust on it.

"Well, that was easy." Marc smiled as he looked at the large cleared area as the Fog was pushed back about two kilometers away.

The Old man was also stunned as he never thought that the slave collar he placed was easily broken off. This gave Tyrone a chance as he instantly sped up sending five slashes towards the old man fatally wounding him.

"Ghrackhh!" the old man spat blood as he fell down on the ground, he turned his eyes towards the man in the golden armor and glared with face full of hate. Moving his hand with all the strength he could muster he pulled out a token in his chest and crushed it.

*Vwoom!!*

A bluish glow appeared around the old man as he felt the life-saving token he used was about to take him away. Tyrone was surprised as he was prancing around feeling proud that he did not see his enemy still has strength left to pull of such a move.

"Hmm? What's that?" Marc gripped a short spear by his side as he saw the bluish light.

"That's a recall spell, he is trying to escape!" Lady Janice said making Marc narrow his eyes and gripped the spear in his hands tightly. For the first time ever he felt a weird surge of energy within him clearly and he subconsciously pulled the dormant energy pouring a lot of it in the short spear.

There a bright golden glow radiated around Marc as his spear seemed to thrum with danger. Lifting his hand up holding a spear, he aimed then threw with all his strength behind it.

For Marc the world slowed as he mustered all the focus he can and saw his target was about to be swallowed by the spell but his spear flew so fast it had already pierced the man on his chest and went through the portal behind him.

Soon he could see the slow motion of how his chest was slowly caving in after the spear has passed through and the portal swallowing the figure of the old man.

After that silence, to the others all they saw was a bright flash of light and the enemy was instantly gone from where he lied. Marc stood there looking at his hands not sure how he did that but he felt he should study it from time to time.
