Chapter 10 - Chapter 9. CARTER

I looked to see a silver-haired light skinned girl with dark blue eyes who was wearing a deep sky blue dress, a crescent necklace, and black boots. She said, "I see that you are also doing the beetle challenge. I can tell by the satchel that your friend has. I can also see that no pudeky is present what a shame." Ephiria said, "The shame is that you would rob a necklace from a girl, Fiona." She replied, "Don't pretend you were not planning to use it yourself."

There were 2 people next to Fiona. One was a boy with tanned skin, brunette hair, and amber eyes. He was wearing wizard pajamas and a satchel on his shoulder. He looked about 8. The other was a blonde girl with green eyes and light skin. She was wearing a knee-height skirt, a light pink shirt, and green boots. She looked about my age.

Fiona said, "Hand over a beetle and you would have saved all of us some trouble." We shook our heads. She said, "Okay. Lisa, Cal. Please handle them." Cal glowed bright yellow. He levitated into the air and headed straight for us. Darius summoned his weapon and blocked Cal's attack. Cal said, "I guess I have found my opponent." He flew to the ceiling and threw a sphere of energy at Darius. Darius dodged right before it blew up and sent us all flying backward.

Lisa also went into the air. Air swirled around her making tornadoes. She directed them towards us. This meant she was a wind druid. Ephiria blasted them away. Lisa summoned a bow and a quiver. She started shooting arrows and using wind to direct them. Ephiria blasted most of them to ashes but one ended up hitting me. I winced at the pain. I felt it tear through my flesh. I fell to the ground into genuflexion. I pushed mist onto it. I was getting a hang of this. I ignored my body's urge to rest. I mustered up some strength and stood up.

Darius was fighting with an 8-year-old. He attacked Cal making sure to aim at nothing but his gem. Cal swiftly dodged and punched Darius. A shock wave sent Darius flying. I joined his fight. A sphere headed for me. I cut right through it. To everyone's surprise, it didn't blow up. Cal threw at us more of them but I neutralized each one. Darius took the chaos and threw his spear. The spear activated and doubled its speed in midair. A tornado tried to stop it but failed. A tornado went to Cal. The spear went through it. A gem was heard cracking.

We turned to see that it wasn't Cal's. It was Lisa's. She disappeared. Cal looked angry. He held out his hand like a relay outgoing runner. He said, "Hand over the necklace." Fiona obliged. Cal held the necklace and balled a fist. The atmosphere got hotter. Ephiria looked terrified. She held out her hand in at a right angle. She blasted the ceiling. Water flowed down into the room. Cal shot out a big sphere that covered up the whole room. Ephiria used her other hand to shoot a small blast into Cal's. A giant explosion occurred. Ephiria blasted more of the ceiling. She said, "Carter, now." I willed my chaos to show up with all my might and luckily it worked freezing the water into a stone wall.

The wall cracked. The pounding was heard. The wall cracked even more. We started running. We reached a T-junction. Darius said, "I will distract him. Just try to survive." He pushed us. We complied and continued running. We heard Darius saying, "Your friend was noble but too bad she sacrificed herself for the losing side." He was blasted on the spot. My wristband beeped proving that he had been eliminated.

We continued and stumbled upon the worst thing possible–a battlefield. The room was even more spacious. A mob of hybrids was fighting with each other. Blast sounds echoed in my ear. I heard multiple battle cries. Arrows were being shot around like rain. Beeps sounded from everywhere. We heard Cal behind us and picked the safer option. We stealthily crossed through the mob.

Minutes later, Cal showed up. He was now glowing as bright as the sun. He fretted, "Help me find Carter and Ephiria and I might consider sparing you." The crowd exchanged looks and attacked him. Their attacks were futile. Cal just blasted each wave away. All they did was buy us time to escape.

We almost got out of the room. Hope lit up in my heart until some random guy hit and broke Ephiria's gem with his club. She made sure to blast his before she disappeared. My wristband beeped. Oh, come on. I was now all on my own. I sped off into a path. Cal was behind me. I could feel it. He blasted at me. I was seconds away from second-degree burns.

I felt silky hair past my shoulders. The black mist appeared. It made a makeshift wall. The blast didn't pass through. Morticia said, "Even for you. Attacking the weak is a new low." I wanted to deny it but couldn't. She said, "Now should you be my warm-up or cool-down? I will take a cool down." She summoned a back staff that had a snake sculpted on it. She lunged forward for Cal. Cal blasted but hit the air. Morticia appeared behind him. Cal blasted multiple times but missed. Morticia said, "Kid, please don't sue me for child abuse." She hit him on the back with her staff.

Cal turned and blasted taking advantage of how close Morticia was. She turned to charcoal black stone. Cal smirked and said, "You say I am low yet you are the one cowering in a shell." Morticia turned back to normal and hit Cal right at his gem. Cal disappeared with shock written all over his face.

Morticia turned to me. She said, "Why not make this easy so that we can all get out of here early." An idea struck me. I said, "We both want the same thing so why not begin the countdown, and whoever is left standing wins." She looks reluctant. She said, "We both know I will win." I said, "Though won't make it more fun." She still doesn't look convinced. I teased her, "Scared that you might lose." I think I learnt about strong people is that they hate being called cowards. She scoffed, "I will play your silly game."

She pulled out the beetles she had and I did the same. This was risky but it was a better option compared to what was going to happen next. We connected the beetles. Calisto announced, "The triple beetle win countdown has been induced. What is this? It has been done by 2 different groups. I wonder what is going to happen next." The beetles levitated into the air. Their hind wings opened up to reveal numbers. I didn't take a genius to see that they were counting down.

Morticia smirked and said, "Let's do this pretty boy." She lunged forward and swung her staff at me. I used the axe's pole to block. She suddenly teleported behind me. I followed my instincts–allowing them to ride me like a horse. I hit her with my elbow. She teleported some distance away. She glared at me, "Nice hit. My turn." She teleported in front of me. Before I could react, her staff hit my face. The pain centered around my jaw. I could almost feel it swelling.

She teleported again and tried to strike me again but I held her staff. I knew I was not stronger than her but could be smarter. I directed my fist to her gem. She placed her hand taking on the weight of the punch. She looked livid. She held her hand out and a bolt of grey lightning shot out. I tried to dodge but whom am I kidding–I wasn't Flash. The bolt electrified my body. I feel a surge of not heat but cold. My muscles became stiff. My nerves feel like they were being compressed to harden. She smirked.

I didn't have much time before I petrified to stone. I conjured up the little chaos I had left and released it straight at her gem. Luckily she was too distracted to notice her the gem petrifying. I imagined it crumbling to dust and it obeyed. The countdown hit 0 and I was teleported to the arena. The crowd cheered when I appeared. I had done it. I had won. I almost smiled before something big landed not far from me. It was Ella and some guy. The guy shouted out loud, "WE ARE ALL IN DANGER." Great, someone to ruin my day.
