I waited for it but felt no pain. I wasn't complaining. A painless death is hard to get. I still felt something on top of me. Was it debris? I opened my eyes to face a pair of green and grey eyes. My vision cleared to see Carter. I blushed. He stood up and said, "There goes my bead. Are you okay?" I said, "I think so. I didn't die." I repeated my last statement but with a cheery voice. I asked, "What happened?" He replied, "See for yourself." I stood up to see a damaged building, people running around and officers handling the situation.
He asked, "Won't they question how the roof ended up there." I shrugged, "The veil will handle it. They will probably see a meteor." He said, "Anyway we should probably meet up with the rest. Do you have a phone on you?" I muttered, "Yeah" I got out my phone and called Octaviet. He immediately picked up, "You're alive. Where are you?" I replied, "Some river bank. Where can we meet up?" He said, "Maybe at the hotel. The one Ella told us about." The name now made my guts churn. I said, "Okay, we'll see you there." The call ended.
I said, "Thanks for saving my life." He replied, "You're welcome. Let's see if it was worth it." I said, "Do you know what. You deserve this." I gave him the vile. He asked, "What is…" I replied, "It will help to hide your mystic scent so mostri won't attack you. Drink it." He hesitantly drank. He quivered, "That was horrible." I smiled, "Now I have paid back for saving my life." He said, "Not even close." We reached the hotel. He excused himself to pray while I waited then we met the rest. I sat farthest from Ella my least favorite person right now. I understand her reasons but it only reduced a wound to a sting. Octaviet said, "I'm glad both of you made it. It was stressful seeing you almost die and Carter jump off to join you." Darius remarked, "We're sorry we couldn't do it without… the crazy jump." Carter said, "You're welcome." Ella glanced at me and then quickly diverted her gaze.
I said, "Okay, have you told Calisto about what we found out." Ella replied, "Never got the choice since you never told me anything." Darius removed his phone and put Calisto on a call with the speaker on. Calisto said, "Thank God you're all alive. What did you find out?" I asked, "How did you know?" She said, "So you would call me without agency? I highly doubt." Darius said, "We found out that the mostri are kidnapping humans with green eyes…" I continued, "They're looking for a descendant of Stella which they suspected Olivia since she has green eyes." Calisto contemplated for a while, the "only person I know who was known with them was Stella." I informed them, "They need the descendant to get rid of chaos somehow." Octaviet remarked, "Killing us all." Those words cut through me.
She said, "Maybe it has something to do with the veil's heart." Darius asked, "Where is that?" She replied, "Still unknown. Though it is rumored that sanctuaries have a map to it. Since you're the only current A rank, we will be sending you to one. I have sent you the location." She asked, "Are you with Olivia right now?" Olivia replied, "Yes, I am here." She replied, "Then I advise that we send her to a safe house I have in mind where they won't come for her." She paused, "I think I will assign Octaviet to escort you there since it is a long way from where you are and you do need the protection." Ella volunteered, "I will escort her too." Calisto raised her voice, "They'll be no need. We need you and the rest to focus on the sanctuaries. Bye." The call ended.
Beep. A notification. I checked to see a map. I peeped to see Octaviet's message was leading him somewhere else. I guess the decision was final. I ordered juice. I needed a refreshment. The rest ordered some drinks too Olivia said, "Someone tell me what is going on or I'm calling the police." Ella said, "Calm down." Olivia spouted, "Don't tell me to calm down. I almost got abducted by a strange man and now I'm hearing this Stella and mostri stuff. Would you be calm if you were in my shoes?" Octaviet said, "We are in your shoes but even worse ones. So chill before you cause a scene."
Darius sighed, "Okay. Simply put, we're going to save the world, and if we don't we die. You may be the key to the villain's success so we're hiding in a safe place to make sure they never get to you." Carter said, "And we have powers." Her jaw dropped, "If I come with you, will I be safe." Octaviet said, "Yes… maybe." Ella said, "By the way, I heard that you used Morpheus. Don't ever use it." He replied, "No kidding.". Darius said, "If we do this right, we'll be able to live another day. Survival is the primal motive. Anyway, I hope the sanctuaries are peaceful places that cherish life." I said, "Really hope there is a lot of peace in a place where mostri live." Ella joked, "They're sure to give us a warm welcome."
We chuckled. Darius said, "Another new member. We'll soon become too many. I better order for a new bed. By the way, can I have the BT?" Octaviet gave Darius a metallic orb. I said, "I hope to see you two again." Octaviet remarked, "I hope so too." Ella hugged Olivia, "Hope you reach the safe house." She glanced at Octaviet, "Make sure she is safe. Promise me." Octaviet said, "I promise unless it reaches a me or her who is going to die. I maybe be tempted."
We departed and headed to the river. The transport could only be used in water. Good thing it looked like our destination is in a water body. Darius put the orb in the water. The orb melted. It enlarged and shifted into our transport.
It is a small navy blue submarine shaped like a bullet with propellers at the back. It had small thrusters around the circle at its back. The middle part was shaped like an Archimedes screw. Lights were placed under the glass screen. It was made by the enigma. Where others say bullet trains, we say bullet submarines. Darius pressed on the glass screen and it opened. We went in. We sat down on the cushion seats. Darius sat in the driving seat and said, "Lira, begin takeoff." Oh, I forgot to mention, "Lira is the submarine's AI." The glass screen closed and we descended into the water.
We went off at bullet speed. Force pushed me against my seat. Images of dark blue repeated themselves. I didn't have motion sickness but I do now. I held in barf and a scream. We finally stopped. We flashed the lights around to see nothing. Wasn't the sanctuary supposed to be here? Was this a dead end? Fate answered my question. Something grabbed the submarine. It pulled it. Darius tried to increase the thrust to push forward but the thing never let go. I felt more holding the submarine. Before I knew it, we were being pulled deeper underwater. The screen opened allowing water to sip in. Drowning or what's pulling? We were too deep to swim to the surface. Death was knocking on our doors again.
